86 minutes. Ten times better than any other film in this first Noir box from Indicator and may be up there as one top noirs I have ever seen.
I may be speaking with a touch of hyperbole, but this film was fun as hell to watch and was a well-constructed story. Robert Keith, Richard Jaeckel and Eli Wallach driving around town together collecting drugs from unknowing carriers was a very cool trio. They all had unique characters and all owned the scenes they were in. I don’t know who had the idea of making Robert Keith a soft-spoken older mentor to Wallach, but the *Pretty Woman (*or My Fair Lady or maybe even Pygmalion) angle worked wonderfully here and gave Wallach’s hitman character, Dancer, an extra layer of context.
Before I get too far ahead of myself, the plot is worth getting into briefly. A criminal mastermind, known only as “the man”, has this brilliant idea of putting a shipment of heroin in a series of antiques and selecting a random assortment of tourists as transports. They mysteriously find a deal on an old antique “too good to pass up” and take it back home to the US, proud of their ability to negotiate but completely unaware of what’s really inside. Once the antiques are safely back in the US, he hires Dancer and Julian to go collect the hidden drugs from the collectibles and put them in a secret spot for the man to take off their hands.
Easy enough, but a misstep from the previous collection crew tips the police off that something is funny. Also, as Dancer and Julian start collecting the returning tourists are all attached to these newfound purchases and getting access to them will be more difficult than anticipated. When one of the bags is missing altogether, Dancer makes the executive decision to confront the highly mysterious “man” to disastrous results.
The plot is interesting enough, but what really made this film pop for me was the creative choices around world-building and character development. Dancer and Julian are completely opposite characters. Julian is nearing retirement, has been in the game for a long time, is a man of culture and refinement, and is a mentor for Dancer. Dancer
... keep reading on reddit ➡I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
The first week of August, after watching a couple movies that had been on my watchlist for a while but I hadn’t seen, I decided that, given how many streaming services I subscribe to and how many movies had been sitting on my watchlist for far too long, I would watch at least one movie I hadn’t seen before every single day until end of the month and rate/rank them. Full disclosure, I liked pretty much everything on my list besides the bottom 2 films. I didn’t seek out films I didn’t think I’d like. And, obviously, these rankings are just my personal opinions, which is why I separated my rating by personal feelings and filmmaking quality. Ranking is determined entirely by personal rating however.
In August, I watched…

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes

But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
