A list of puns related to "Richard Bartle"
I don't know how good is this book, looks like it is one of the Game Design books I haven't read :).. but based on the HackerNews thread it is one of the important ones.
Maybe it is interesting :)

> Ten years ago, massively-multiplayer online role-playing games (MMOs) had a bright and exciting future. Today, their prospects do not look so glorious. In an effort to attract ever-more players, their gameplay has gradually been diluted and their core audience has deserted them. Now that even their sources of new casual players are drying up, MMOs face a slow and steady decline. Their problems are easy to enumerate: they cost too much to make; too many of them play the exact same way; new revenue models put off key groups of players; they lack immersion; they lack wit and personality; players have been trained to want experiences that they donβt actually want; designers are forbidden from experimenting. The solutions to these problems are less easy to state. Can anything be done to prevent MMOs from fading away? Well, yes it can. The question is, will the patient take the medicine?
Although from 2013, IMO this paper is a good summary of the current 'state' of MMORPGs and an interesting suggestion of what should be done to make MMORPGs relevant again.
Dr Richard Bartle is Professor of Computer Game Design at the University of Essex, co-creator of the worldβs first online multiplayer adventure and a designer who features often in lists of the most influential developers of all time. MMORPGs like League of Legends and Hearthstone have around 100 million monthly active users.
Last week, Richard gave a lecture in London on the value of video games to teaching and learning. He's very critical of 'serious games'. He thinks they're misguided...and not FUN. His deck is well worth a look.
You are a game player. You are super talented. But what kind of talent is it? And what can you learn from playing video games?
Richard Bartle will give his view at this free meetup.
Pop culture points to star footballers as veteran players of FIFA. The President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York talks Dark Souls with the New York Times. Is the talent real? And just what is it?
Scientific research points to players of Fortnite as skilled in creative thinking and multi-tasking. World of Warcraft: leadership and system thinking. Civilization: strategy and problem-solving. Do the skills transfer into real life? And just what is it that translates?
You can read the first two parts on VANILLA and BURNING CRUSADE here. I recommend reading them first, but you should be able to understand this post just fine either way. #Part 3 - Wrath of the Lich King
Here we are, hereβs the good stuff. This is one of my top two favourite expansions β but unlike my other favourite, most people actually loved this one too. After the bizarre two-year LSD-fuelled interlude that was Burning Crusade, players were back in Azeroth, plunging into the icy continent of Northrend. Out of all the content missed from Vanilla, this was the place players most desperately wanted to go. And it was excellently done. This expansion concerns the story of Arthas Menethil, also known as the Lich King. I wonβt go into the details because weβd be here for hours, but hereβs a quick twenty minute refresher and hereβs a three hour long monstrosity.
On their journey from level 70 to 80, players had the option of starting out on Howling Fjord or Borean Tundra. From there they would visit either the jungle-heavy Scholozar Basin or Grizzly Hills, a chilled out alpine zone with beautiful music. After the nature zones were done, we moved onto the desolate Dragonblight, absolutely brimming with dragon lore, or the home of the Frost Trolls, ZulβDrak β wowβs first totally urban zone. After that, players usually hit level 68, and were able to buy the ability to fly β which was vital for the final two zones due to their inhuman scale β Icecrown, the bastion of the Lich Kingβs army, or the mystical [Storm Peaks]( https://wow.zamimg

... keep reading on reddit β‘I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
