My husband an I are looking at buying our first home. And I am super lucky to be able to work from home indefinitely. The housing costs seem significantly less in Portage La Prairie. But when I've brought up the prospect of living there, everyone I've talked to seems to have the same thing to say, that it's a super conservative, and racist town. Is this actually the case or just winnipegers out of touch view point on it?

The treasurer knew of the issue back in October(or earlier if you believe calendars exist) but didn't tell anyone. Now they have to take a loan against next year's tax revenue, which won't go through in time. So employees won't receive their paychecks until January.

At around 10:50 this morning like 6 cops with rifles and shotguns opened our back gate and ran through our yard with a k9 in front of them, they checked our garage door, saw us and continued through our property to the front, then continued searching yards with the dog.

There were also several suvs going slowly up and down the street, just wondering if anybody has a clue what's going on cause being in history class and looking out the window to see a group of heavily armed cops with a massive dog run through is pretty jarring and I'm curious what went down.

Just a heads up, was driving towards downtown on Portage Ave. Protesters have blocked the intersection heading West at Portage Ave and Dominion, traffic backed up all the way to Broadway. Take a different route if you’re heading to Polo Park area.

Call me crazy but I, in my admittedly somewhat limited tripping experience, really enjoy portages. It's a factor in my route planning (anyone else?); waterfalls, views, beautiful forests. Long or short; steep or flat, rough or easy. Whatever!

I see a lot of posts around favourite lakes or routes, but what are some of your favourite portages in the park and why?

As the titles says, looking for something similar to the atlas sling from Manhattan portage x everydaycarry.com, they dont sell them in my country unfortunately, also maxpedition is off the table as they are unavailable here aswell.

Keep having to help seniors up from the ice on their driveway because of the crappy design. If you know anyone that lives near it, please tell them to just avoid it.

I'm pretty sure portage uses wget to download things by default. aria2 is faster. Is it possible to make portage use aria2?

Generally curious if these places are bad.. I'm planning on buying a duplex or single family house within the next year and my #1 pick is crown point but odds are I'd be getting a duplex in portage or possiblu a SFH in Hobart. I grew up in Hobart when I was younger 17 years ago and dont remember it being that bad. Just curious what the crime and such is like in these areas.

So my router decited to stop encrypting my dns traffic the other day and before I noticed I had done some Update already. I should be fine right? I'm going with my niece and parents to Algonquin this summer. We'd like to stay at a campground where a couple of us can easily leave the group and portage for a couple days (nothing hardcore, but to give the experience). Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe Pog campground and canoe to Whitefish? Anyone have experience on Whitefish? We are seasoned backcountry campers, but taking teens with us for the first time. TIA!

Portage road was completely fine until after Kilgore rd going towards Cork St. Probably the scariest road I’ve driven on during my driving career.

I was gonna take my girlfriend out to an arcade on new years since shes been wanting to and my go to was gonna be twincade since i went there a few years back and it was killer but i saw it closed down. Anyone know if theres any similar places to it outside of like zao island
