Old-Fashioned Plain Old Landline Telephone Service

I want a regular landline like people had in the old days and I don't want Comcast or CenturyLink and I don't want it to be part of some cable TV or internet package.

Is that even possible in Portland these days? And if so, where can I find the best rate? Thank you.

Is there a reason a telephone network interface jack (plain copper service) would be filled with sticky gel?

I've been having trouble with crosstalk. Already called phone company, but you know how they are, if there's no problem at the NIC, it's your fault.

Well, the NIC is filled with this goo, and the pins look bent... There isn't some sort of non-conductive gel these guys put in for anticorrosion or something?

Edit: technician told me it's a new thing, anti corrosion.

Removing external "plain old telephone system" boxes.

Our new house has a low slung wire that connects to an unsightly POTS box. In this day and age, I don't know who provides plain old telephone service to a house anymore, and not sure how to find out.

Spectrum provides internet at the new place, and the tech told me to just cut the wire and bundle it up at the base of the street post.

Any ideas?

Roosevelt used the WPA and U.S. Forest Service to plant a wall of trees from the Great Plains to Texas to slow the growth of the dust bowl. How successful was this initiative, and where are these trees today?

First off, do we have reason to think the tree planting worked? Or did the drought just end?

How many trees were planted? Did they survive? Were they planted on Public land? Degraded farms?

Where would we find these trees today?

I want a Disney+ show that is basically like a plain old comedy or dramedy about the lives of the Asgardians struggling to integrate into life as a Norwegian.

Like, I'll be honest, all I know about the culture is Ikea, whatever I see in pop culture, Lillihammer the Olympics and the TV show about the Sopranos-type mobster, and Let Me In unless thats Sweden.

Anyway, the thing writes itself.

S1E1: Balder needs a job. Amora wants to join a Human play. Luffi and Kathy the Kindly But Badass United Nations Important Person Token American butt heads. Valkyrie gets a cat.

Tragic Post-Genocide Post-Thanos execution Post-Snap Post-Blip Gilmore Girls's Stars Hollow In Norway With Cultures Explored And Hope And Xenophobia And Fuckin Funny.

Or a more modern reference: Schitt's Creek but like a thousand Asgardians.

Thanks.

Whats that song, im pretty sure its a more modern song, however the start of it sounds vintage like through an old telephone, its starts off with male voice(quickly saying) La Da, da dada da, da da dada da (and then something at the end) then its repeated with more people then the main song merges.

Im sorry if i gave you cancer reading this but its stuck in my head. (Along with the la da bit at the start, i remember hearing a piano just playing a single note to the beat)

Why do all streaming services dim the image and put a bunch of text on the screen when you pause? One of the top reasons people pause a show is to get a better look at something. This trend is counter-intuitive and just plain annoying.

Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and every free movie site does this. Why? Why can't you get rid of the feature by clicking up or something? Sometimes I want a very good image of a piece of art, costume or decoration and this feature ruins it for me.
