Maybe you've heard the example that Galileo is thought of as a scientist, but the word "scientist" wasn't coined until nearly 200 years after his death. We apply that label to him retroactively.
Is there a word for that kind of thing? I don't believe that "retronym" is the right word, because that's mostly about adding context and clarification due to a change in circumstances. For example, we never needed the term "acoustic guitar" until we had electric guitars.
Thanks!
It's great to hear from everyone! Thanks for all the support. We will do something like this again soon.

In case you don't know the term, a retronym is a word created to differentiate between old and new versions of something.
Example: "Analog clock" was created once digital clocks came around.

What will we call non-self-driving cars? We can't call them manual since we've already used a manual/automatic retronym.
