The Viking seax is a very large fighting knife which most warriors would have carried. Seax is a short sword that was used primarily during the early part of the Viking era. It's a one handed single edged weapon. Hilts were made of wood, bone, or horn. Every Viking needs a Seax.

Seax an Old English word for knife. In archaeology, the term seax is used for a type of small sword, knife or dagger typical of Germanic peoples who migrated during the Early Middle Ages. Saxons, whose name derives from the weapon. They vary considerably in size. Acquired from Germany in 2020.

A seax that I made by carburizing pure iron bars to create my own high carbon steel. The fittings were made by hand from silver using hammer and chisel. No casting. We made a video of making this if you are into that sort of thing!

The "Viking" Seax?
I have recently been thinking about the seax. My understanding was that the Saxons were THE seax people, so much so that they were named for the Seax according to some things I have read.
However, when you search them most results are "Viking Seax". Not to mention every depiction of Vikings has a seax. Is this because the Norse widely incorporated it into their aresneal? If so, would that have occurred in mainland Europe or England?
Or is it just a bastardization where everything on that time period and general area is called "Viking"?

Good brand for a functional seax knife
Iโve been looking online for a good quality seax knife. I want it to be functional not display. What brand would you recommend? So far Condor seems like what people like. (I also want a traditional seax not a modern or tactical version)
