I’m thinking about polishing pipe wrenches to sell. I think they’d make good retirement gifts for Sprinkler fitters, plumbers, and Pipe Fitters. Two questions. What do you think a guy could charge for something like this? And what size pipe wrench do you think would be most popular? v.redd.it/w97xvfk3j3681

What is the difference between pipe fitters, pipe welders, and steam fitters?

I have an interest in getting into welding as a career. Doing a lot of research yet I can’t seem to find a straight explanation between the differences of these three. Like the pay and the work.

How much does a union pipe fitter or millwright make in Illinois?

I have a friend that works for a company welding fuel tanks and fire extinguisher bottles, she’s a great welder. She works non-union up in Wisconsin, and I was talking to her about coming to work with me in the mines and be my maintenance help basically, and base pay where I am is $36.75. Then I got to thinking, hey why wouldn’t she just try to get into one of these other unions… she wants to live closer to the city and then she wouldn’t have to deal with mining elements….. which are not great. Anyone have any insight?

Fabrication or pipe fitter

Hey guys I’m an 18 year old fabricator I just graduated high-school as I mentioned I’m a fabricator. I have been for about 2 years now since my jr year for an apprenticeship but it not really sure how I feel about it I love welding and I’m pretty good at welding pipe so I was thinking about giving this a shot, what are your guy’s opinions? Considering all of you have a lot more knowledge and experience than I do.

*Repost deleted by accident * 20 years old need help deciding between pipe fitters union and the army as the first big choice in my life

I had taken an plumber/ pipe fitters Union apprenticeship test earlier this year since I was just applying to anything that may have helped me make money and learn some skills instead of just wasting my time working fastfood.

I took the test and thought it didn’t go too well so I gave up since I didn’t never hear anything back from the Union so I continued to looked for things that may help me in life and that bought me to the army I figured it was a good way to get an free education bachelors degree and get some money in my pocket while doing it .

I took my asvab earlier this week and received a afqt score of 64 meaning out of 100 people only 34 tested better than me , my recruiter told me this was a good score but didn’t really tell me if it was very good or just average he also didn’t tell me what jobs this would qualify me for so I left to go home and am still waiting for him to contact me about it but when I checked my phone that evening I had seen the acceptance letter from the apprentice ship.

This shocked me since I thought I had no chance and now I can’t really decided between them , in the army I can get free schooling And paid while also being deployed around the world so getting to see other parts outside the u.s.

But in the apprenticeship I get to learn a trade skill for 5 years with pay starting from 35 year 1 to 70k year5 but the downside to that is I won’t get to travel will have to pay for college myself .

Which choice would be the best one to better myself with ?

Pipe Fitter Helper tool list/test

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has a copy of a written pipe fitter helper test? I haven't worked as a pipe helper since 2014 and I've recently got a hands on Helper test which is basically point at the correct tool that the tester calls out. I thought I would have remembered but I was totally lost and failed the test. Most of them were because they have multiple names I only knew them by one name, if that makes any sense. (Ex. End grinder=pencil grinder)

I'm waiting on my blue book to get to me but in the meantime if anyone has a complete list of fitter helper tools so I could study and get back up to date with it. Also the helper test I got from 2014 I passed it to be a level 2 helper and the test was a drawing of the tools and then just fill in the blanks(Tellepsen). If there's something like that out there that would be great so I could work on my memorization of them.

Pipe fitter

Hey everybody I am starting school for pipefitting the exact name is Steam sprinkler and pipefitting i am really excited to start because I hear so many great things about the trade but I want to know deeper like How much money could I really make , could I clear 100k a year eventually ? When I go on indeed they don’t have many jobs so I’m wondering before I even start this is it worth it ? I’m 22 and I want to start my career NOW so by the time I’m 30 I’ll be okay and a regular Job (Just Over Broke) will not satisfy the the things I want in life so I just really came to this post as like a last resort because YouTube and google don’t really tell me to much plus this trade only takes 6 months to finish I’ve spent 6 months at a job I hated so I know I could finish the schooling

Copper pipe fitters & the Black Plague

Talking to a guy at work and he mentioned he read that copper pipe fitters didn’t get sick during the Black Plague era because they have some type of bacteria resistance from being covered in copper. Is this true at all? It seems like it could be but also a stretch. Also if my hands are covered in copper from touching it all day is that like putting hand sanitizer on?
