A list of puns related to "Orgeat Syrup"
Hello everyone! I am in the process of stocking my new bar(you may have seen my recent alcohol stocking on here) and need some syrups. Namely Grenadine and Orgeat. I'm not worried about Grenadine because it's simple enough to make it or grab it, depending on the Orgeat.
I've seen a few posts like these but I haven't found a definitive answer(maybe because there isn't one?). I'm wondering if I should go out and get almonds/orange blossom water/etc and make some, or get Liber & Co or something.
Disregarding budget/effort/etc. Like a bottle of each appears on your bar, which would you use?
Thanks for any info! I look forward to either buying some or making some!
Iβm moving far away from my favorite tiki bar that sells their own orgeat syrup (Lei Low) and Iβm needing another way to purchase or make orgeat syrup for making my favorite mai tai.
I know the process for making the syrup can be a bit much, so Iβm looking to see if anyone makes their own on here and can give their recipe or any insights into making it.
It also seems like any orgeat you can buy from a store just isnβt worth it. Do you all agree?
Adapting this from a recipe in Smuggler's Cove:
Add almonds and water to pot and bring to boil on high. Strain almonds and reserve the water. Grind 2c of almonds in food processor to ~rice sized. Add 11oz of reserved water to processor and combine to a paste. Consistency should be similar to cream of wheat or watery oatmeal. Transfer to pitcher. Repeat with second batch of almonds. Let cool ~1 hour.
Line fine mesh strainer with cheesecloth over a pot. In small batches spoon into cheesecloth and wring out paste until dry over the strainer. Discard dry almonds. Line strainer with fresh cheesecloth and pour through it into separate container. Line strainer with fresh cloth and pour once more back into pot. You should have ~2.5c.
Measure 3x by volume allulose (~7.5c) to pot of almond milk. Stir with wish on low heat until allulose is fully dissolved, creating a thick syrup. Taste periodically, it's done when there is no grittiness. Remove from heat.
As syrup cools, add remaining ingredients and stir occasionally. If any separation occurs, sure vigorously to reincorporate. Once fully cooled, stir vigorously once more and pour through strainer into storage container. Should last a few weeks in the refrigerator.
My GF is feeling tiki drinks, so I need orgeat. Does anyone know of anywhere that sells premade orgeat syrup? I thought maybe Astoria Bier and Cheese on Ditmars might have it in their little grocery section near the door, but the last time I checked they didn't have it.
This might be a dumb question, but here goes. I'm trying to branch out with my tiki drinks. Most orgeat recipes I find call for a fair amount of sugar. And a lot of Mai Tai recipes I find call for orgeat and also simple/rich simple syrup. (1/4oz of each, for example) Does the drink call for both? I've never really had a good, proper Mai Tai and with the world being what it is today I probably won't get that chance for a while. I know you can and probably should adjust drinks to taste, but I'm just trying to figure out what a good baseline would be as far as how sweet this should be. Thanks.
EDIT: Thanks for the replies. Iβm probably getting ahead of myself. Finding orgeat around me is harder than finding gold. I may order some eventually, but for now Iβm going to focus on trying a few different recipes to make it at home, trying them all out and going from there. Thanks again.
Hi everybody! Iβm really excited to find this sub, Iβve always been somewhat interested in tiki, and this quarantine has been my opportunity to dive all the way in! I just finished reading Smugglerβs Cove, and have been making a bunch of different drinks from that and Trader Sams menu. And Iβve noticed that orgeat syrup is the thing Iβm running out of the fastest. What orgeat syrup do you guys use? I see that Torani has one but Iβm curious if itβs the right flavor and mouthfeel for tiki drinks? Iβm currently using Small Hand Foods brand, but itβs a very small bottle. Thanks!
Iβm in Berlin, and Iβm having difficulty finding a source on any of the good orgeat syrups mentioned here (BG Reynolds, Small Hand Foods, Liber & co, Liquid Alchemist... .) None of them show up on amazon.de.
Whatβs the go-to website for that kind of stuff in Europe? Are there any European brands I should look out for, or even a brick-and-mortar store in Berlin that might be worth the trip?
(No, I couldnβt be arsed making it myself, simple syrup and grenadine are about as much bother as Iβm willing to put up with.)
Looks like Mai Tai's are the go to with this ingredient, what else can I do?
Anyone know where I can buy some orgeat syrup in town? Preferably Overland Park area if possible. Thanks!
Iβm trying to make a sunflower seed syrup and I thought Iβd ask for some advice.
My method would be to melt sugar in equal parts of water and half the amount of sunflower seeds then blend everything and then straining through a very fine super bag.
Any other ideas?
I live in a world where proper syrups are really hard to get a hold of. The solution, offcourse, is making my own.
The problem is my flavour references are the βredβ-tasting grenadine mixer and that one Monin Orgeat bottle with artificial flavouring I found once. Ginger or cinnamon syrup? No idea.
Just follow a recipe youβd say. Well, there are lots and lots of recipes out there calling for different things and proportions. I want to use sweet and bitter almonds for my orgeat and am wondering if that pomegranate drink with 56% fruit juice in it would be fine if I reduce it first (pomegranates are ridiculously expensive and pathetically small here).
So would you please give me your input on how grenadine, orgeat and ginger syrup is supposed to taste.
Is orgeat supposed to taste like the monin version? When I made my own the other day it was quite bitter.
How sour and how sweet is the grenadine supposed to be?
What is ginger syrup actually supposed to taste like? Like the hot/strong taste of fresh ginger or like the sweet, mellowed down taste of candied ginger?
Cheers
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but i'm looking to make orgeat syrup but with the sous vide method. I can't find any online recipes for it so I was wondering if you lovable bastards had a trick up your sleeves.
Cheers, and thanks in advance.
So I want to put the classic Mai Tai on my spring cocktail list and I feel like the Fee Brothers Orgeat Syrup is hurting the cocktail. How much better is house made orgeat?
IIRC, most "almond flavored" things are made with the pits of cherries or peaches or something, no? I have some cheap orgeat syrup that I am wanting to use for mai tais later this week, but a friend is allergic to nuts. I'd love to be able to serve these to her, but don't want to kill her. Ingredients list from Torani's site is > "Pure cane sugar, water, natural flavors, citric acid, sodium benzoate (to preserve freshness), potassium sorbate (to preserve freshness), fractionated coconut oil, ester gum."
[Edit] I heard back > Hi Gypsy,
>Thanks for contacting Torani! The Almond (Orgeat) syrup does not contain any of the Big 8 allergens. In case you are concerned about other flavors, you may click the following link from our site http://www.torani.com/#/about/faqs/chart to view the allergen listing of all the syrup flavors.
>Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
>Have a flavorful day!
I'm new to tiki and am starting with the Smuggler's Cove book as my introduction and starting drink list. However, the recipes are a bit intimidating for someone new to mixing drinks.
I've had success making a few of the syrups the drinks call for, but the process for making my own Orgeat just seem excessive. Will the Mai Tai's be that much better than if I just buy it? If not, can anyone recommend a brand of Orgeat they like?
Iβve already struck out at Superstore and Sobeys, wondering if anyone knows where I can find some in the city for a reasonable price. For those wondering, itβs a flavour syrup made with almonds used in cocktails and as coffee flavoring.
Thanks!
Me and some friends are having a gin night. We want to fuck around with a few new cocktails and I was given this cocktail to make. I have all the ingredients, the Blue Curacao was hard enough to find, but I can't find Orgeat syrup. I tracked down some recipes and it seems to be Almond syrup with a splash of Orange Blossom water and some Rose water. Have any of you cocktail heads come across it or have a good recipe I can follow? I have all the ingredients to make it but every recipe I find on the net has different measurements. Cheers!
EDIT: I should have mentioned that I am in Ireland and have already had a good look for the stuff
Thought you might be interested to know I've found orgeat syrup at No Frills in Toronto (Dufferin Mall) for 2.99 for 26 oz bottle. It's labelled as Orzata which is apparently the Italian name for it? Has anyone tried this syrup as compared to other homemade or store bought orgeat syrups? What are your thoughts on it? Does anyone have any nice non-tiki style recipes calling for orgeat?
Or an easy recipe for making your own?
