A list of puns related to "Tiki Bar"
After hearing about it for awhile, I recently had the chance to visit the βTiki Barβ at the East Side Club. At best, Iβd call it false advertising.
I canβt say there was anything there that resembled what I would call a tiki bar. No exotic or fun mixed drinks (2 cocktails on the menu, neither remotely exotic or unique). No Polynesian-style decorating I saw. A random guy on a ukulele would be a step in the right direction.
Basically, just another open spot on the lake to sit at picnic tables, drink canned beer, and watch/play yard games. Which is fine, if thatβs what youβre expecting. But a tiki bar? Not even.
Started with an old pine log and a chainsaw and created an abstract Tiki decoration for my bar. All the pieces were individually cut from the ~3' thick slap I cut from the log, sanded and then attached with screws from the back. Overall its ~3ft tall x 1 ft wide x 6 inches thick. This was my first Tiki creation and I'm pretty happy how it turned out.
I'm in the middle of my basement bar build, and I'm trying to find some carved posts for around the bartop. My space is pretty small and my size requirements are very specific, so I'm not finding anything off-the-shelf. I think custom is the only way I'm getting this done. I'm aware of Oceanic Arts, but quite frankly they're too difficult to work with from the east coast.
Anyone know of carvers willing to work with me on this? Bonus points if it's someone native to the pacific islands.
What I'm looking for is 3 decorative posts, ~40" tall, and 3.5-4" in diameter. 2 of them are half-round to look "embedded" in the wall. I can do my own finishing, but I'm no real artist, and can't do the carving.
Pics of current real progress vs. design.

Hey folks, I'll admit right out of the gate that I'm not super familiar with Tiki type stuff.
My brother had just finished building his Tiki bar at his house, and was having folks over for the "Grand Opening".
I want to get him a decent bottle of rum he can use for mixing Tiki style drinks, but I do no know enough to make an informed decision.
Please help! What rum do I buy for the Tiki lover?
Headed out to NOLA for the first time since the RONA and wanted to consult with R/TIKI regarding potential tiki locations. Obviously Latitudes and Tolteca but there has to be others right? I hope?
The time has come and my beloved tikished is going to have to do dual purposes as an office during the day. I donβt want to loose anything in there but I canβt fit a desk and the front bar at the same time.
Originally I was going to just wheel out the front bar during the week, but swapping a desk and the bar around is a faff - plus I have no where to store the front so itβs left out in the elements.
So I had an idea, buy a standing desk then it can do double duty as desk during the day and bar during the weekends. I donβt know whether this is a good ideaβ¦
My initial thought was to buy a black frame and build a custom stained plywood top. Then I can size it to fit the space.
My problem is hiding the fact that itβs a desk. It needs some sort of wrap around to cover the feet.
I want to start a dj night where we spin 60s surf, garage, and psych rock. I'm also going to be have a weekly menu featuring classic tiki cocktails. if anyone has any ideas as to what I can name it, I would greatly appreciate it. Hoping to start the event in a few weeks.
Anyone been to the Ellis Island pop up tiki bar? Is it worth it? If not, whatβs a good tiki bar?
