What do you all think of Oliver Heaviside's teaching plan in electromagnetic theory(1894)??

from page 148...

"My own idea of a useful course to begin with arithmetic and then, not euclid, but algebra. Next, not Euclid, but practical geometry, solid as well as plane ; not demonstrations, but to make acquaintance. Then, not Euclid, but elementary vectors, conjoined with algebra, and applied to geometry. Addition first; then the scalar product. This covers a large ground. When more advanced, bring in the vector product. Elementary calculus should go on simultaneously, and come into the vector algebraic geometry after a bit. Euclid might be an extra course for learned men, Like Homer But Euclid for children is barbarous."

Will there ever be another Oliver Heaviside?

Looked at his wiki page and noticed he didn't go to a university to get his degree. However, he did get a, "In 1905 Heaviside was given an honorary doctorate by the University of GΓΆttingen." My question: In this technology era, where thousands of free material including MIT OCW, previously taught courses (with everything including notes, homework/solutions), is it possible for a mathematician to become famous without having to go to a university? I know Math is one of those fields where you really don't need a degree to study because of the number of resources out there on the internet. Who knows, maybe the Riemann hypothesis, Navier–Stokes existence and smoothness and Hodge conjecture will be proven by a self-taught mathematician.

Srinivasa Ramanujan was also a self-taught mathematician but he ended up getting his Bachelor of Arts by Research in 1916 at the Trinity College, Cambridge. Whereas Oliver Heaviside didn't yet he did change the way we see complex numbers and many other known fields.

Talk about the owner of special something from last chapter

The talking about DF from last chapter who never been awaken in years and had name change.

I think they was talking about Kid Jiki jiki no mi. Whos fruit got awaken recently kid and law, also why oda choose to give panel where law ask kid about his power and he refuse to give more explanation? Becauss he had something to reveal for kid before he pulled up new(original) powers And the person who shanks talk about to gorosei is Kid. Shank told them about someone had "magnet-magnet fruit".

kid fruit actually not Magnet fruit, but electromagnetic fruit. You know one of 4 natural force, we already saw one fruit that belong to this one which is "gravity" Fujitora ability.

Here some google search about electromagnetic.

The electromagnetic force is a type of physical interaction that occurs between electrically charged particles. It acts between charged particles and is the combination of all magnetic and electrical forces. The electromagnetic force can be attractive or repulsive.

Before the invention of electromagnetism, people or scientists used to thinkΒ electricity and magnetismΒ are two different topics. The view has changed after James Clerk Maxwell publishedΒ A Treatise on Electricity and MagnetismΒ in the year 1873. The publication states that the interaction of positive and negative charges are mediated by one force. This observation laid a foundation for Electromagnetism. Later many scientists like Michael Faraday, Oliver Heaviside, and Heinrich Hertz contributed their ideas in electromagnetism.

I dont know what the reason they need to change its name, but hopefully we get it soon.

Also interesting thing what anime did(i didnt remember this happen in manga), but every time kid use his power theres kind some electric field around him.

I think oda would use this for excuses for kidd and law for beating bigmom.

Thats just some random thoughts what you think. ?

Power Electronics & Power Systems (undergrad)

hello, everyone!

Just wanted to submit this post in relation of seeking advice. This upcoming semester I'm beginning my education in Electrical Engineering and seem to have an interest in power. I would say my goal is to either work with renewable resources, electronics, or even electric vehicles.

Although I have not begun any actual engineering courses, enrolled for circuit analysis this semester, what are some ways I can start preparing for this subfield???

I'm a junior who made the decision to switch from chemical to electrical engineering and promise to educate myself right this time. I know this degree is very math intensive so I've been brushing up my calculus over the christmas break. Beside subjects what are projects I should consider doing on the side?

I really admire Nikola Tesla and am grateful for the work of Oliver Heaviside and Charles Steinmetz. I may not come close to these brilliant minds but am willing to put in the dedication/time for this degree.

In all just contribute to society in my own way.

thank you for reading and much love

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Dropped my best ever dad joke & no one was around to hear it

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies πŸ˜‚
