DAE WARDLOW WANTS TO BE AN AEW LIFER?
I'm 50+ but do 30' tables & 18' doubles (still chicken when things are gapped out π€·ββοΈ). I started jumping 6 years ago, & had some very good (professional) teachers.
Here's what I teach at the local DJ parks:
Start with rollers. Go over them & focus on being smoooth. The number 1 way to mess all this up (ie crash), is to get impatient, so don't. Remember, even Formula1 drivers chant "smoooth is fast" under their breath.
Practice:
Get light/pull-in on the fronts (of rollers, whups, tables), & heavy/push-down on the backsides. Focus on being smoooth, & DON'T try to get air.
Then add a little speed. stay smooooth, still no air.
Now see how far you can go without pedaling. Embrace the 'rocking horse' motion. Get across the whole line without pedaling. keep focusing on being smooooth, & don't try to get air.
Then add a little more speed. stay smooooth, still no air... but you're starting to 'crowd' that backside. hitting tranny? landing flat? dial it back, keep focusing on smoooth.
When you can cross a line of whups and your head stays level, while the bike porpoises under you, you're ready. You've developed:
Balance
Bike/body separation
Timing. Ie know how to 'place' your pressure at the right moment of the whup/roller/tabletop
...& now you just press down a little when you roll up the front-sides.
You'll start getting air...
...but your body will know what to do with it, including:
Placing the pressure you want at the lip, to get the air you'd like
'Putting-down' the bike where you want it. This fixes over/underjumping, AND helps you avoid 'dead sailor'
Casing, ie coming-up short is less bothersome now you know how to pull-up as you land, smoooothing the landing out. Landing 50/50 is just another landing; you can case that smooooth too
Proceed from there, but keep focusing on smoooth. Enjoy!!

PS- I really recommending learning to roll ... then exiting your bike is just another option, rather than something to fear.
I always looked for older mentors throughout my career and also in my personal life. My husband is one of those "older" mentors even though he is actually a couple of years younger. He has an old soul. Anyway, I loved being a mentor to my children, but was amazed to find out later in life, that the youngest of them is actually a mentor to me. He always shared new things and new ideas with me. His view on politics opened my mind to a lot of things I had not considered before. He got me to try TV shows I would never have tried to watch and he was the one to get me and my husband both to try Reddit. We are both hooked now, thanks a lot young son! After getting on Reddit, i somehow was lucky enough to land another young mentor. She has patiently guided me through some technical stuff on Reddit. I love seeing how she handles herself in the occasional Reddit kerfluffles. I think sometimes we don't realize how much the young can teach us, but if we let them, they can be a mentor for our next stage in life.
First time using battlescribe, and completely foreign to CP and stratagems. C&C appreciated.

I'd like to find an older, mature gent that is bi or bi-curious, but as inexperienced as I am and we can become pals and slowly (repeat, slowly) work up to more if we both feel interested and safe. Some things along that path might include: JO together, shower together, massage exchange, practice some nudism, ... i don't know, what else?
But, I can never host, sorry. I won't "split a motel room", etc. I am retired, so I can usually work out some type of freedom, some time, during weekday daytimes.
Hi!
Looking to join a recreational softball league this fall! But feeling slightly self conscious about the prospect of being an early 40s unintentional creeper on a team of 20- and 30-somethings who havenβt yet been completely ground down by life. Anybody with any insight as to the various leagues in LA? Currently signed up for zog, but wondering if there is a better league for the geriatric millennial crowdβ¦

In episode 893, Jack and Miles are joined by comedian and Roy's Job Fair host Roy Wood Jr. to discuss reactions to the Derek Chauvin verdict, states criminalizing protest, Quibi's possible return, Natty Light's new ice pop, senior citizen style, the Oscar's 'contagion' theme, and more!

like the title says, can anyone explain how exactly to do this? i understand what the game description says: Use Study to read 30 books in a single game.
What is Study? can't find that answer anywhere. What books? do i buy them? i've never found a book... this character unlock is very confusing compared to the other two...
help?
So how much can I realistically hope to improve when I'm an older dude - e.g. over 50?
I'm in "OK" shape. Not terrible, not great. I was never a cyclist in the past. Right now, my w/kg is usually 1.4 or so when I'm freeriding around, and I can stick at 2.1 or so for 10-15 minutes. (130 watts is a comfortable, "can do this for a long time" power output for me.)
If I were 25 years old, I'd assume the sky is the limit in terms of how much better I could get. But at 50+? I'm wondering what's realistic for me. I have a hard time imaging I could ever get to 3.5w/kg, for example. Is sustained 3 w/kg imaginable or crazy talk?
I'm just wondering if other have experience in taking up the sport old (without a great athletic base to start from) and what is a realistic goal to strive for.
I literally cannot talk to a human being at the DMV, and the DMV website isn't exactly answering my questions, so Reddit HiveMind, here I am.
I turned 50 in September. Because of the pandemic (anxiety, depression, stress, etc), I failed to realize that my driver's license had expired on my birthday. I hardly even drive my car, but still! I panicked and then found out online that a person had a whole YEAR to renew their driver's license after it expires. But now I have some more questions!
Any advice from fellow oldsters would be most welcome. Thank you!
I was heartened by the following statement last week in The Washington Post quoting a prominent evangelical Christian:
βStarting off the march on a nondescript side street off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Anacostia was David Platt, pastor of one of the nationβs largest and most high-profile evangelical churches, McLean Bible. βWe pray that you would forgive us for our history and our present,β Platt, who is white, said as he marched.β
But upon further reflection, I became incensed! Certainly church institutions are not perfect social organizations. And as a 94 year old member of a variety of mainline churches, I am among the first to admit the manifold SINS of churches collectively and church members individually. Yet I am proud of the awakening and action I have seen in progressive, RELIGIOUS organizations to further embrace the cause of human dignity and justice for all human beings. In my last 50 years of church attendance I have seen progress I could never have anticipated. The underpinning of the cause was set by leaders such as King and Gandhi.. The future looks bright to me as I see those causes being espoused by young people of all hues in the streets. There truly has been a malaise permeating our country since its founding and hopefully we can finally admit it and do something about it.
