A list of puns related to "Nazirite"
This week's parsha introduces the laws of Nazir. Assuming there are not Nazirites today (haven't met any or heard of them existing), when did they go out of existence? And why? And what would be the purpose of a Nazirite today?
I hope this is the right place to ask and if anyone is willing, could you expand on what this vow meant to the ancient Jews and what it means now?
Is there maybe a connection between these two groups? I ask this because both groups abstained from wine or "strong drink". Also both groups "separated" themselves in that they both stayed away from urban areas. Were these practices an ancient part of the YHWHistic cult that apparently is from Midian?
So I have been looking into sacrificial history and its associated costs. But surprisingly I have found very little information. What I do find is typically hidden behind a academic paywall. I was curious what the cost of this would have been historically & also in today's USD.
Specifically what a person had to pay for (I just do not know the costs of each). (Also I believe these are the things that had to be paid for please forgive me if I am incorrect on a point).
A Unblemished Lamb for a Burnt Offering
A Unblemished Ewe as a Sin Offering
A Unblemished Ram as a Peace Offering
A Basket of Unleavened Bread
A Grain Offering
A Drink Offering
A Haircut
I am just trying to wrap my mind around just how expensive this would have been. This is not for homework it is just a question I would love answered with as much detail and sources as possible. Because I came up with very little in my searches (But I am a layperson). I thank you in advance!
So, since HaRav Hanazir spoke of the importance of making the name of Nazirite more known;
and since there is the whole "yafutzu ma'ayanot'echa chu'tza" thing;
and since I have been getting the vibe -
It's the Hebrew Nazirite!
Ask me anything!
EDIT -- Did I just receive Gold?! Thank you deeply , benevolent one. I appreciate the support. Stand and be recognized!
Does anyone know of anyone else taking Nazirite pledges post-Temple?
Also there's seems to be thought that taking a Nazirite pledge was extremism and should be avoided as far back as the Rishonim (Rambam IIRC).
Can anyone provide sources of thoughts on Nazirites and give insight into why it is such a rarity? When the temple is rebuilt should we expect to see it more often?
Do your worst!
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
What did 0 say to 8 ?
" Nice Belt "
So What did 3 say to 8 ?

When I got home, they were still there.

You take away their little brooms
This morning, my 4 year old daughter.
Daughter: I'm hungry
Me: nerves building, smile widening
Me: Hi hungry, I'm dad.
She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.
Thank you all for listening.
There hasn't been a post all year!
