I was reading an article in Australian Prescriber, when I reached a table (below) that states reducing or changing progestogen will improve breast tenderness whilst on the combined oral contraceptive pill.
Physiologically I thought lower progesterone, in relation to estrogen, is a risk factor for mastalgia. I would have presumed lowering oestrogen or switching to a POP would be the approach.
Anyone know other sources that support this point about switching the progestogen or lowering the progestogen dose to help with the mastalgia adverse effect, or know something about this topic?

Despite an IUD which has helped with most other horrendous symptoms I still experience Mastalgia for about 50% of every month. Any suggestions for natural solutions to this that wouldn’t interfere with the hormonal IUD?
Hi everyone, so I've been considering a reduction for almost 10 years now. I'm 32 with an average/slim 5'3'' frame, about 125 lbs, but my boobs are a heavy 32F. I've noticed on this thread that most people have terrible back and neck pain. In my case, my back feels OK but my boobs themselves are really painful for the last 2 weeks of my cycle, every single month.
They're swollen and painful to the touch all the way to my armpits. On the worst days, removing my bra feels like torture (I describe it to my husband as having 2 giant sore testicles on your chest) and I need to sleep with a sports bra for support. My doctor says this is called cyclical mastalgia and is caused by hormones inflaming the tissue, but I have yet to find a remedy for it that actually works to ease the symptoms (I tried tylenol, primrose oil and cutting out caffeine).
When my period ends and my boobs feel normal again, it's a total liberation, I can breathe and move again.
My question is: did anyone here suffered from cyclical mastalgia before a reduction, and did it help? Are your smaller breasts still painful around PMS time? Has anyone had their insurance cover the reduction on the basis of cyclical mastalgia and not neck/back pain?
I want a smaller chest regardless but I also want my hormones to stop messing with my boobs each month.
So I've temporarily been taken off birth control due to medical reasons (should be going back on in ~6 months). I'm in my mid 20s and naively wasn't expecting any side effects, save for the occasional breakout. Clearly my reproductive system caught wind of this because PSM has been hitting me like a sledge hammer. Part of this involves severe breast pain. Today is day 10 of agony with no end/period in sight. Wearing a bra hurts, not wearing a bra hurts, I can't sleep or do anything without pain and it's hellish.
I have several different prescriptions for anti inflammatories and pain meds but I can't take them for more than 3-4 days at a time. I've just found out that those NSAID creams that are made for back pain/arthritis/sports injuries can be used on breasts too! Somehow this had never occurred to me! I ran out and got some this morning and it's made such a difference, I may actually get some sleep tonight.
Just wanted to share incase anyone else was struggling
(make sure not to get a 'heat' cream, no one wants burned boobies)
(Just a side not, I am not pregnant, this is a struggle I always had pre BC I'd just managed to repress said memories and wasn't expecting the issue to return after so many years)

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.
I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.
When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."

Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.
