A list of puns related to "Marpa"

Boulder on Tuesday night added its 201st individual historic landmark. City council voted 7-1 to designate 891 12th Street as an historic structure, preserving it from redevelopment or significant structural changes.
Landmarks are typically routine matters, but Marpa House from the beginning has been marked by controversy. The process was started over the objections of the propertyβs owners. Though he is now on board with the designation, other objections were raised: Notably, that Boulder recognizing the property as historically significant might be traumatic to the group of people who have accused Buddhist organization Shambhala of rampant sexual abuse of women and children.
A plaque that will eventually be placed on the property will reference Shambhalaβs mixed legacy in some way β possibly the first such acknowledgement of a buildingβs βnegativeβ history in the city, according to historic preservation staffers.
βAs a historian, I think itβs important not to censor history by obliterating what is perhaps something you donβt want to acknowledge,β Senior Historic Preservation Planner James Hewat said in a Thursday interview. βThese are sensitive and current issues. That doesnβt mean we shouldnβt acknowledge them and represent them as honestly and accurately as we can.β
Consideration is always given to past and present owners of potential historic properties, and homes are typically named after them. For example, last month 2440 Kohler Drive was landmarked as the McDonald Residence, in recognition of owners Don and Alice McDonald.Β Don was once chair of political group PLAN-Boulder County; Alice served on the library commission and helped raise $13 million to fund construction of the Arapahoe building.
Tuesday night, councilwoman Rachel Friend argued that past ownership of Marpa House should be considered as a reason not to landmark, given the βtraumaβ it might cause survivors.
βWeβre not talking about a historical building that 100 years ago had bad things happen,β she said. β(Itβs) possibly inflicting trauma on people today.β
Shambhala, whose founders are credited with spreading Buddhism to the United States, owned the property from 1977 until last year. Allegations of sexual abuse against the organizationβs leaders and teachersΒ surfaced in 2018; an internal investigation by law firm Wickwire HolmΒ found that leaderΒ Mipham Rinpoche βlikelyβ engaged in sexual misconduct. AΒ teacher at the Mountain CenterΒ and another former member were arrested on cha

From the Interim Board today:
February 1, 2019
Dear Shambhala Community,
The Interim Board has been working on how to continue to fund both the Shambhala organization during this difficult period and deal with a large debt that is continuing to grow from revenue shortfalls. We have been discussing over the past two months the need to sell a real estate asset and if so, which asset or assets should that be. After considerable analysis and due diligence, we have focused on Marpa House as the candidate for a sale. All of our considerations on this subject are set out in βMarpa House Potential Sale Discussion Memoβ which can be found here. The Memo also includes feedback the local Interim Board directors received from a meeting that was held with Marpa House residents last week. We intend to continue to work closely with the Marpa House community as this process continues.
As explained in the Memo, our financial condition is such that the Interim Board determined that this action appears unavoidable. However, we also believe that alternative solutions could be found by tapping the creativity and generosity of the community to avoid such a difficult decision.
The Interim Board asks that you read this memo in the spirit and intention that it is offered: an opportunity for the Shambhala community to engage in creative problem solving together. We invite your ideas and suggestions to help us meet these short and long-term challenges we face as a community. You can email us at marpahouse.board@shambhala.org.
Recognizing there are no easy answers, we are committed to making the best decisions possible under the circumstances. However, we need your help in seeing all the options and alternatives and making the difficult, but optimal choices for the community. During this period of comment, we are open to meeting with individuals or groups who wish to make a serious proposal and have more detailed questions. In that regard, please contact the Interim Board rather than the Marpa House leadership.
After taking into account all of the input, we intend to proceed to make a decision on this issue on or after February 28, 2019.
On another subject, we expect to have the Wickwire Holm report available to the community in the coming days. We will also post calendar year end financial data

>Because of your expressed interest in Marpa House we are writing to you today to reach out in a tender and shaky moment.
>
>Over the past months our outreach has remained fairly modest as we prepared an offer to purchase Marpa House as well as a solid financial plan. Today we have sent out our first email to the broader community which we have included below as well as an urgent request for support.
>
>Since the Interim Board of Shambhala (IB) announced the possible sale of Marpa House, a group of us residents and supporters have been diligently working to purchase Marpa House as a community. We have worked many late nights, invested our energy and money, and poured our love into this project. We believe Marpa House is a precious Sangha Jewel rich with lineage blessings, an essential resource for the future of the community, and a vital expression of Enlightened Society for the future of the world.
>
>To date we have: formed a 501(c)(3) non-profit Community of Marpa House, made an in depth study of Marpa Houseβs financial situation, created a projected budget and financing models to envision a viable path forward, submitted a formal offer to buy Marpa House for $3 million (submitted on May 6, 2019), and gathered pledges for $630,000 in βFriendly Loansβ (30% of the total needed) and $70,000 in donations from a small group of initial investors and donors.
>
>Currently, the IB has a significantly higher offer on the table from an outside party and will be communicating with the community about this offer in the coming days. While word has gotten out and many of you may already know much about the situation, we will leave it to the IB to make the formal announcement. We are in close communication with the IB and are informed of the details. While we are disappointed with how things have unfolded, there are still uncertainties, contingencies and possibilities in the situation.
>
>While we are in a challenging spot, here we are, and our hearts tell us this: If we can make a strong second offer and if the Sangha so desires, we still have a chance to keep Marpa House in the community.
>
>We have created a viable model to make a competitive second offer. In order to make this offer, we need strong and immediate support from the community. Now is the moment to rally around Marpa House and show our support for this magical place where so many of us hav
Going, going, gone!
Right on schedule, the IB has now fulfilled their one year mission: Get the money for Marpa House.
Now they can ride off into the sunset like they were appointed to do.
Here is the link to today's very long letter from the Interim Board about their Sale of Marpa House (obviously they have been working for a long time on breaking this news)
Dear Friends of Marpa House,
I'm writing you with an urgent message from the community about the pending sale of Marpa House and what we can do to protect Marpa House for the future.
The developer who is currently under contract to purchase Marpa House has submitted a pre-application to the City of Boulder for significant proposed renovations if he acquires the property. These plans are public record and have been reviewed by the Hill Neighborhood Association, the Community of Marpa House non-profit Board, and other neighbors and allies.
The plans do not conform to current zoning laws and would require the city to change Marpa Houseβs current non-conforming use exemption. Any change to the current exemption will need to undergo a formal process in the City and will need to take into consideration the concerns of the neighbors and the citizens of Boulder.
Now is the time to voice our support for Marpa House to City Council as they begin to consider these zoning questions NEXT WEEK. Time is of the essence -- We need to act this week!
Here are three things you can do to help: Come to the City Council meeting next Tuesday, July 16th at 6pm. YOU MUST REGISTER IF YOU WANT TO SPEAK. Go here to register. Council Chambers are located in the Municipal Building (1777 Broadway St.). Bring a friend, come show your support! Online registration closes at 2pm on Monday. At the meeting, 15-20 people will be chosen to speak by lottery and each speaker will be given 2 minutes on any topic they wish. Itβs essential to have as many people sign up online as possible so Marpa House gets as many speaking minutes as possible. (See suggested talking points below.) You do not have to register if you want to attend but do not plan to speak. Write to the City Council at council@bouldercolorado.gov (See suggested talking points below.) Write a Letter to the Editor at the Daily Camera: openforum@dailycamera.com. Strict 300 word max, and your name, full address, and phone number are required. (See details below.) You may also wish to express your feelings for Marpa House to Shambhala's Interim Board at board@shambhala.org
Thank you for rallying during this narrow window of possibility!
Suggested TALKING POINTS for speaking with or writing to the City Council:
The benefits of Marpa House in its current use: Marpa House has a 46-year history as a contemplative community that provides affordable housing to a diverse group of working people who contribute to Boulderβs economy. I

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
I was reading Thich Nhat Hanh's No Mud-No Lotus. In that, he mentions that even the Buddha suffered after his enlightenment - when he got sick and after the loss of his friend. It's just that the path allows us to embrace the suffering, suffer better and convert it to happiness easily.
Is that true?
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat
Do your worst!
How the hell am I suppose to know when itβs raining in Sweden?
Mathematical puns makes me number
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
We told her she can lean on us for support. Although, we are going to have to change her driver's license, her height is going down by a foot. I don't want to go too far out on a limb here but it better not be a hack job.
