What if Luis Carrero Blanco was not assassinated?
On the Polandball subreddit, I found a thread referring to the assassination of Luis Carrero Blanco, the right-hand man and successor of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco.
If Carrero Blanco had not been assassinated:
- Would he, or his successors, have peacefully relinquished power to:
- A democratic republican government (similar to some right-wing dictatorships in Latin America)
- Juan Carlos I (who believed in, and led Spain towards, a constitutional monarchy)
- Or would a violent power struggle have been inevitable upon Carrero Blanco's eventual natural death?
- Considering Carrero Blanco's pro-Colonialism stance, would Spain have started a war against Morocco due to the 1975 Green March?
- Considering that Spain and Morocco are both anti-communist allies of the USA, which countries would side with Spain, and which would side with Morocco?
- Or would Morocco just be too intimidated to organise the Green March with Spain under Carrero Blanco?
- Considering growing secessionist movements in Spain in recent years (such as the illegal 2017 Catalan independence referendum), would a Spain under Carrero Blanco's handpicked successors have started a genocide or provoked a civil war?
