A list of puns related to "Library Science"
So, E. O. Wilson, a giant in biology (and a favorite author of mine), has just died.
Reading his obit, a quote from Sarah Hrdy (one of his students), made me look up her research and want to read some of her books.
She is nowhere in any of my libraries! (I have memberships to 11 libraries.)
Not on Overdrive, not Hoopla, not Cloud library, not SimplyE, not on the shelf at my library or any of the interloan libraries.
She is and has been a leading researcher and author for decades! First published in 1972. Named as one of the 50 most important women in science. So, all these libraries have been ignoring her for 5 decades.
WTF?
Hi everyone! My first post but have some question I just recently graduated with my AAS in Library and Information Services and have my LSSC from the ALA-APA. I am looking to go on and get my Bachelors in LIS so when I finally go to get my masters I have a better understanding of what I really want to do in the library world. I have been looking at the University of Southern Mississippi and The University of Maine at Augusta. Does anyone have insights to which might be a better program? They are both offered online. The only thing that sets southern Mississippi apart is that it has a MLIS program accredited through the ALA. Any insights would really help me out. Thank you so much
Iβm thinking of getting a masters in library science. I have always dreamed about it but havenβt because I was scared. I already have a back up plan to use the degree too. Iβm currently in the legal field and I think this could be even more beneficial on top of this already being my dream. Any tips or advice would be great!
Hello all! Sorry if this seems very scattered, but I am a trans individual that put going to college on hold in order to sort out some of my medical and legal transition.
the pandemic has made me realize that I do want to go back to college! I am currently researching on what I should do to try and eventually acheive getting a Masters degree. I am currently interested in the archieving aspects more than computer data aspects.
is there any type of advice that anyone has to give me at all? or am i aiming too high?
thank you!
Iβm interested to learn more about why, when, and where you earned your PhD in LIS. Iβve been a librarian for about 10 years, and Iβve always had in the back of my mind that Iβd like to be an instructor in an LIS program. I thought a PhD would help me achieve that goal, but I donβt know if thatβs the right move for me right now. I was looking to gain some insight into the experiences others have had in their journeys.
So I was just scrolling through my local libraryβs (Alberta, Canada is as specific as I should get) catalogue today and I noticed thereβs about 500 more books tagged Christian Fiction than are tagged Science (3172 to 2678).
There are more books that are just fictional Christian stories than there are books about science!
Thereβs also 600 fewer books on βreligion and spiritualityβ, so fictional Christian stories beat all other religious books!
There is no tag for fiction specific to any other religion.
Thereβs 2000 fewer books tagged LGBT+ fiction. Thatβs an insane lack of representation!
It seems like such an odd norm to have that much Christian stuff at the local (and secular) library. Is this the same at other peopleβs libraries? How do people take action on this?
Youβre stunning!
What parts of ML projects do you find really tedious, and do you think should be wrapped in a Python library? Looking for project ideas.

hi! interested on transferring on either of the mentioned programs :) for students/graduates of bs geog/b lis, do you enjoy your program so far? what are the things you do? are job opportunies good for a breadwinner like me?
background: currently a freshie of ba comm arts. passed in (but have not yet availed) a scholarship that would not allow me to shift program so im assessing whether it is worth to stay here or not. i have also been very anxious of writing lately and want to be involved with other matters (solving, etc)
I need a study budy!
I work 2 jobs and am plugging out an MLIS degree, but its an online out of state school so I have no real peers.
Librarians, are you out there??

Elsevier and the USDOJ have declared war against Sci-Hub and open science. The era of Sci-Hub and Alexandra standing alone in this fight must end. We have to take a stand with her.
On May 7th, Sci-Hub's Alexandra Elbakyan revealed that the FBI has been wiretapping her accounts for over 2 years. This news comes after Twitter [silenced the official Sci_H
... keep reading on reddit β‘I was curious how high the expectations are for the MLIS program. Is it similar to undergrad or are the expectations much higher? I do not like writing papers and struggled at times with how boring some of the topics were in my undergrad. I've worked as a library tech for a while and I know that I will need the degree in order to apply to a librarian position but I am a little worried about whether I will be able to complete it. I would do an online part-time program so that I can continue working but I am concerned about whether I could sustain the effort over the years that would be required to complete the program. How demanding is it? Does the difficulty change depending on the program/ school? Did any others who worked full time while doing the program have difficulty?
Should I take the program through mohawk or confederation college? I know it's done through mohawk college anyways, but I think confederation College offers it cheaper.
