Hey there, just finished this knife, made out of 80crv2 high carbon steel with a stabilized Maple burl handle, the bolster is also 80crv2, differential heat treat, the blade is 7.5 inches with a 6mm spine on top of the ricaso with an aggressive distal taper to 1mm by the tip and full flat grind. reddit.com/gallery/s9bjbq

Rusting and/or pitting on a two week old Smith & Wesson knife, carried EDC in my waistband. Is there anything I can do to save the blade? Worried about trying to EDC with the new one out of fear that it will happen again. Any advice is appreciated.

I just got my first Japanese knife, a Takamura santoku, and hesitated when I went to smash the skin off some garlic for fear it could cause damage to the knife (bend the blade?). I’m thinking ultimately it’s a tool I’ll be using daily and I should just go for it. But in case it’s a bad habit or a no no for Japanese steel, wanted to get your thoughts.

Carrying a knife with a blade over 3"
So as I'm sure most people know, Michigan doesn't limit the length of knives to 3" in any way, it only states that a knife with a blade over 3" is considered a dangerous weapon if there's intent to use it unlawfully.
Here's what I'm not sure a lot of people know. Some local jurisdictions have knife laws that do limit the length of knife you can carry to knifes 3" or less. Detroit and Lansing are two such places.
My question is, does anyone know of other cities that also limit blade length? I hate the idea of ending up in a place with such a law and not knowing that I'm carrying an illegal knife under local laws.

I want to make the handle nice on this Kiwi paring knife (#503). Can I use a metal file to grind the rivets down so they're flush to the wood? Also will the grind not extending the full length of the blade make it hard to sharpen?
LPT: If you've got a good quality knife, don't put it in the dishwasher. It is highly probable for the knife to have gon through a heat treatment during the manufacturing process, and the dishwasher heat may damage this treatment, reducing the quality of the blade.
