Hi all! This is my first legal advice post & I am on mobile so I hope everything is formatted right. I am in Texas.
I am 21(f). I went to a cafe and lounge with friends yesterday night at 7pm. 3 of us including myself used the valet parking which was 5$ per We all paid and handed out keys over one. We ordered food & drinks (non-alcoholic) and stayed until 11:30.
When we went to leave the three of us who used valet parking presented our valet ticket stubs to the desk. My friend who paid last got his car in about 10 minutes, my friend who paid second got his car in about 20. I paid first and after 35 minutes had passed I asked where my car was (politely). They asked if the battery in my key works (it does) and then asked me to look for my keys in the valet desk which I did not see. After, the asked me to come look for my car with them. I walked to the valet parking lot with the head valet and pointed out my car.
They told me they couldnβt find my keys and had all the valets check their pockets (no luck). They told me they may have lost my keys and asked me to sit inside the cafe and order something (on the house). At this point it was about an hour and a half from the time I first asked the valet to get my car. They told me they were going to try to get a company to come and make me a new key while I was sitting inside but I guess they couldnβt because of the time.
At 1:30 am they told me that they had officially lost my keys and that they would arrange a ride home for me. The cafe owner (he does not own the valet, it is owned by someone else and the cafe pays to use their service) felt bad and since he owns a car dealership he offered me a car to drive back home. I have insurance that covers me as a driver and the car was insured as well. The valet told me that they would arrange for a replacement key by Sunday (today). I drove back home and arrived around 2:40. Seeing as I didnβt have my house key either I had to jimmy my way in.
I got my spare key the next morning and drove back to the cafe at 11:45 (45 minutes after they opened since no one answered when I called). I was informed that the cafe owner wasnβt in and that the valet didnβt show up until later so I waited until they did. At 3:40 pm the valet shows but and unlocks the gate so I can get my car back. I return the cafe owners car. I ask about reimbursement for my key and am told that the valet who has been helping me will put me in contact with the owner (his brother in law). We e
