I’ve seen differing answers on this and am curious to hear peoples arguments/discussions. My money is on Pain but feel free to disagree!

Like,people claim and say that Jiraiya was a bad teacher and that he taught Naruto nothing in the 3 year timeskip.

Like, that's just flat out not true at all.

Sasuke seemed stronger but here's why.

Sasuke was already a strong, developed student when he went to study with Orochimaru,he already had Kakashi train him,and was top at the academy,and had copied lee's taijutsu with his sharingan and due to his power hunger and greed/lust for revenge,he was much more focused and driven.so when he went to Orochimaru for power,he was already powerful and skilled.plus,Sasuke also had his Curse mark boosting his chakra and physical stats.

Now, Naruto wasn't at developed,like,he didn't have the greatest taijutsu or charka control or anything like that and such,dude wasn't also the brightest. People say that Jiraiya taught Naruto nothing in the Time-Skip clearly aren't reading the story or manga or anime properly.

Like, Jiraiya trained Naruto on how to control the nine tails to the point where he could go up to 2-3 tails before he went beserk at 4 tails,he also worked on improving Naruto's taijutsu and shuriken throwing and he also taught Naruto how to use his shadow clones more strategically and he also made Naruto less reckless and had him be more calm,focused and intelligent on how to fight and such. He also improved Naruto's use of the Rasengan and Summoning Jutsu,and chakra control as well. When Naruto fought Kakashi after the Time-Skip,he went from being one-shot the first time to being able to hold his own and outsmart him 1-2 times.so he obviously showed good improvement.

Plus, Orochimaru literally had Sasuke take drugs and steroids to boost his strength and skills,and only worked on getting him.stronger to make him his vessel,not out of the goodness of his heart. (Even Sakura and Tsunade suspected and confirmed Sasuke was basically taking drugs to enchance himself).

And plus,compared to Orochimaru,who only cared for Sasuke as a vessel and puppet, Jiraiya cared for Naruto like a son and wasn't constantly overworking him with training and had Naruto enjoy himself and have fun while also training him as well. (Plus people seem to forget that Naruto,when he returned,was more mature, strategic, and skilled when he returned to the hidden leaf village).

Also,plus,most training and growth doesn't always have to be physical but also emotional as well,as Jiraiya also taught Naruto the importance of never giving up,working hard,and inheriting the will of fire,and

You know, I always wanted to do a (mini) tournament with different Naruto characters for fun. This tournament is not very long, only a best out of 16. Not too short of a best out of 8, or too long of a best out of 32 or 64.

I tried to pick characters who are, relatively speaking, close to one another. I tried to exclude characters who were too weak, too strong, have very little info, or simply get overhyped like crazy.

For this tournament, it's looking at which character will be the victor when it's all said and done. For the characters listed, we're only looking at what power and abilities they have in Part 1 and/or Part 2. There will be restrictions applied when the matches call for it.

Guy easily takes the win over Tsunade, and moves on to the next round. We have now reached the final round of the tournament. This is a winner take all. Should be interesting.

Stipulations:

• This is Jiraiya just before he died to Pain

• This is near End of War arc Guy, just before he used the 8 Gate

• Opponent must be defeated via death, sealing, or if they give up

• Everyone is in character, but serious

• Location takes place in the Valley of the End. Jiraiya is on top of the statue for Hashirama, while Guy is on top of the Statue for Madara

1. Restriction: Jiraiya can't use the Frog Song Genjutsu via Ma and Pa, and Guy cannot use the 8th Gate.

2. Note: Both Jiraiya and Guy starts off in their base form, but both can access their most powerful tech during the fight.

You know how Asuma impregnated Kurenai then dies, Jiraiya does the same thing before he dies and now its Naruto’s job to look after the little shit

Jiraiya literally came into the hidden rain village,with no info or Intel on Pain/Nagato or his abilities or powers, Managed to deal with Pain's summoning animals with his Hands clasped together to gather nature chakra/energy, Then once he went to Nagato/The six paths of Pain,he managed to Kill 3/6 of them,and only lost his arm when he was caught off guard by one.of the pains,and even then,he managed to re-Kill one of the Pains he previously killed,and even after getting his throat crushed and repeatedly stabbed with Pain's Black rods,he still had enough juice and life to get the Intel to the hidden leaf village, promoting them to learn Pain's secret and for Naruto to learn Sage Mode.

(And before anyone is like "those were the weakest Pains",those pains were still fucking up many high-Jonin level opponents and even Kakashi,a relativity strong Ninja,was shocked of how Jiraiya Managed to deal with 3 of them.)

I'm telling you, don't underestimate the Pervy Sage,man didn't become a legendary sannin just by slacking off.

Plus,people forget that Jiraiya was literally a candidate and was offered to be Hokage 3-4 times,he just didn't want to.My dude was said to be one of the few people that could defeat Orochimaru,Based on feats alone, he's probably the strongest Sannin,maybe him in base form and Orochimaru are tied(or Orochimaru is stronger)but In sage mode, he's definitely stronger. Plus, Jiraiya likely always held back against Orochimaru cause,like the third hokage,he couldn't kill his old friend.

My dude also trained Nagato, Yahiko,Konan, Minato and Naruto into powerful Shinobi,so he was a generally a good teacher.

It was said in the databooks that while Orochimaru and Tsunade's stats were 35, Jiraiya's was 35.5,which are equal to Itachi's stats in the databooks. It also says that Jiraiya completed many S-Rank, A-Rank,B-rank,and C-rank,and D-rank missions(I forgot the exact number,sorry).

(I'm not trying to overestimate or fanboy or overrate him,I promise,I know there are many characters he loses to but this is just a appreciation Post for him.)

Now do I think he could beat Kisame and itachi together?no,not really, he's likely defeating them separate but together,those 2 are a deadly combo.

I definitely feel like he could beat Itachi and kisame in separate battles if he plays it smart and strategizes but if he fights them together, he's likely dying.but he's definitely killing 1 of them are injuring the other.

Itachi isn't blind and doesn't have his illness.

Jiraiya starts off in Base but Eventually in the fight goes on in Sage Mode,with Ma and Pa on his shoulders(so he's basically immune to Genjutsu and tsukuyomi,since Ma and Pa can break him out).

So based on both their abilities and skills and powers,who do you think wins?

Some say Jiraiya,some say itachi,but really think,use your brain and don't be bias cause this character is your favorite,use actual feats, statements from the manga, databooks,etc.

(It's said in the databooks that Jiraiya and Itachi are tied in the databooks with stats being 35.5/40).

(It also says that Jiraiya has completed 58 D-rank missions,345 C-Rank,684 B-Rank,614 A-Rank,and ,138 S-Rank).

So we have Jiraiya,a member of the legendary sannin,if not the strongest Sannin,the Toad Sage,and we have the Clan Assassin and Uchiha prodigy,Itachi Uchiha.

Who do you think would win?

i’ve been seeing a lot of people claim that Jiraiya could have beaten Pain had he had intel on his abilities, as Pain himself said. the issue with this, is that that statement is flat out incorrect. Jiraiya could’ve known absolutely everything there is to know about Pain and he still would’ve died tragically.

from a logical standpoint, Jiraiya fighting just 3 was difficult enough. he said it himself that if he continued fighting the same way, he’d die, even with sage mode. he had to run away and strategize just to barely beat the 3 that he did. this tell us that 3 bodies > Jiraiya in terms of just pure physical advantage. clearly he was able to create a strategy that allowed him to beat them, but the fact is that he’s weaker than 3 bodies (you could argue that the fact that it’s multiple opponents was a huge disadvantage as well). you then double this amount and include a body that beats all the other 5 by himself and it’s a wash no matter how you look at it.

from a more power scaling standpoint, Naruto in sage mode with all the intel he could get was clearly stronger than Jiraiya, as he took out 5 bodies with ease. once he got to the deva path, he stood no chance. if Pain wanted him dead, he would’ve been killed easily. it took Naruto tapping into the 9 tails power to escape him, and even that wasn’t enough to outright beat him.

considering these two points, being that 3 bodies alone was too much and that Naruto was stronger than him and even he couldn’t get the job done, i don’t see any conceivable way that Jiraiya could beat Pain when the only thing that’s different is that Jiraiya knows that one person is controlling the bodies.

Thoughts?

I know the 'real life' reason why they didn't understand the message he left right away was to drag it out a little longer and create more anticipation and suspense, but they honestly should have immediately been able to understand what he was talking about in my opinion. Jiraiya told Fukusaka that the 6 paths of pain had the same eyes and similarities to Nagato, but that none of them actually seemed to be him. So his message of "the real one is not among them," should have honestly been a no brainer especially to Fukusaka since he was with Jiraiya before he died and heard everything he said. This isn't the only time the characters have "been dumb" in situations where they shouldn't have, it's expected out of Naruto, but everyone else especially Shikamaru, Tsunade, and Fukusaka shouldn't have had to think about it longer than 30 seconds really. They read the message and act like it's not even a functional sentence, like it doesn't make sense at all just some jumbled up words and it honestly couldn't make any more sense.

There is literally no chance. How do we know this? Pain arc Naruto is literally just Jiraiya but better and HAD INTEL AND PREP TIME and still lost to pain who was exhausted and couldn't use deva until 5 pains were destroyed.

Nagato was simply hyping up his sensei, if the human path summoned deva the fight ends instantly. If Jiraiya started to have the advantage they summon deva and Jiraiya has literally no answer.

Naruto has a serious problem with stating things that can not be backed up with feats.

Edit: Everyone stating Jiraiya could get to Nagato without encountering the pains, Nagato sensed through the rain as soon as an intruder entered the village and sent Konan to find him while keeping the pains nearby, there is no possible way Jiraiya is avoiding a pain confrontation without plot induced stupidity from Nagato.

I feel like people use this statement to scale Jiraiya above Pain, when the real reason Pain made that statement has nothing to do with that. Pain states that they couldn't have won if Jiraiya knew their secret, but from my understanding, it's not cause Jiraiya could've overpowered them, but because of sage mode. If Jiraiya knew that all the Pains were remotely controlled by the outer path, he could use sage mode's sensory abilities to track down Nagato, exactly the same thing that Naruto did. He already had the animal path so he could've just used his black chakra receivers to track down the 7th Pain.

As the title says. Jiraiya says to Minato that he is kind of Narutos godfather, and tells Tsunade years later that it is like seeing his grandson when he looks at Naruto. So why didn't he take care of Naruto from the start so Naruto didn't have to grow up an orphan?

I'm going to explain how Jiraiya in Sage Mode can beat Itachi.

First of all, SM Jiraiya is completely immune to all of Itachis genjutsu. Itachi's tsukuyomi requires eye sight to work, meaning that Jiraiya would need to look into Itachi's eyes to be caught in it. To get around this Jiraiya could simply close his eyes and sense his opponent and the environment using sage mode. We've seen this happen in the series twice before. First, when SM Kabuto shut off his vision while fighting Itachi and Sasuke and secondly when Madara stole Hashiramas sage chakra and sensed his opponents without even having eyes due to being Rinne Tensei'd.

I know what some of you are thinking, even though Jiraiya is immune to tsukuyomi Itachi can still catch his opponents in genjutsu! Well, you would be entirely correct in thinking this because Itachi has used his finger point genjutsu on Naruto before. However, as we know from the series an experienced ninja like Jiraiya (who has decades of war experience) can break genjutsu by disrupting his chakra. Jiraiya even taught Naruto this. If you're still not convinced, Ma and Pa could use their chakra while on Jiraiyas shoulders to break him out of Itachi's genjutsu. This has been done in the series before. For example, the eight tails broke Bee out of Sasukes genjutsu (which might have even been tsukuyomi which would give Jiraiya another way to break itachi's Tsukyomi if true) and on multiple other occasions.

Then there's Izanami which Jiraiya is also immune to. Izanami only works on those who do not know their true selves (like Kabuto). Jiraiya knows his true self so Izanami would not work.

As you can see, none of Itachi's genjutsu works on Jiraiya. Obviously Itachi could still win without genjutsu and is still extremely powerful without it, so i'm going to discuss the continuing battle without Itachi's genjutsu.

I nearly everyone can agree that Itachi can only potentially beat Jiraiya with his mangekyou sharingan abilities. Itachi's non MS abilities won't work on a veteran sannin like Jiraiya. Sorry, but Jiraiya is not going to be killed by a fireball jutsu, kunai or shuriken. He's seen these things thousands of times throughout the 2nd great ninja war and survived. He would be able to counter or dodge easily.

Naruto:"It makes me sad, that your entire life is summed up in just a single action, Thinking about it gives me the shivers."

C Naruto:"S-stop that! I can clearly see what you're trying to do! It won't work!"

Naruto:"Listen, you could do what you were created to do, or you could rebel and refuse to fight me."

C Naruto:"No! what's the point of that?! that's dumb!"

Naruto:"Is it? what do you gain out of this fight?"

C Naruto:"I...I'm still not letting you through! that is my purpose as a Ninja!"

Naruto "That is your only purpose and after that? what's next? clone heaven? an eternity of nothing? would it be worth it?"

C Naruto "..."

Naruto:"When you're about to be dispelled would you feel satisfied that you fought me?" The clone suddenly looked crestfallen and tilted their head to the ground, his body slumping as his knees betrayed him, Naruto watched with a bated breath as the clone sat motionless all while feeling a hint of pride welling up in his chest, his experiment would succeed and afterwards the possibilities were endless.

The blonde approached his neutralized clone with a spring in his step as a certain sage hidden in the treeline felt distrubed by the unfolding events.

Naruto:"Hey, i'm sorry about that, I was only trying to get you to not fight, we could sti-" The boy paused as he started making out the sounds of incoherent mutterings.

Naruto was rooted in place by the clone's deserpate cries, a shrill scream pierced his ear drums, their faces met and the blonde was greeted by his own twisted face, eyes wide and pupils shrinked with maddness, orbs reflecting a shattered mind and a broken spirit and in that haunting moment it lunged at him, he stood there helplessly watching it disarm him of his Kunai.

Steel plunged into flesh and he could do nothing but look on in horror as all doubts were washed with a swift motion, he could have sworn that for a brief second he saw a hint of relief on the clone's face,

Naruto (with clone prep) faces Konan and Animal Path. Naruto starts with the same amount of knowledge on the corpses, rinnegan and Nagato as Jiraiya did at the beginning of the fight

Jiraiya (starts in sage mode) gets summoned to Konoha right after Pain flattened Konoha. He starts with the same intel Naruto had at the beginning of the fight

Scenario: The Akatuski move to attack the leaf, Pain agrees for Orochimaru to choose 2 other Akatuski members to assist him in the assault.

Assume that.

• Old Hiruzen Acting as Hokage, can use summons.
• Jiraiya can use Sage Mode/Summonings.
• Tsunade can use 100 healings/Summonings.

Orochimaru can use Edo Tensei but it is restricted to the weaker versions of Hashriama/Tobirama (Like in Part 1 Naruto)

With the last matchup for Round 1, Kisame beats Mu in a hard fight and moves on to the next round. Mu was my personal pick to win the whole tournament if you had to make me choose, but in the end, it just wasn't the mummy man's day. Both Mu and his rival Gengetsu got eliminated in Round 1. Well, at least they still have each other to fight with haha.

With Round 1 finished, we move on to Round 2. Should be interesting to see how these matchups will go. With that out of the way, let's get started.
