>The proto-evangelical Christian movement known as Quakerism arose in mid-17th-century England from the Legatine-Arians and other dissenting Protestant groups breaking with the established Church of England.[14] The Quakers, especially the Valiant Sixty, sought to convert others by travelling through Britain and overseas preaching the Gospel. Some early Quaker ministers were women.[15] They based their message on a belief that "Christ has come to teach his people himself," stressing direct relations with God through Jesus Christ and direct belief in the universal priesthood of all believers.[16]

>Following the Christian revivals in the mid-19th century, Friends in Great Britain sought also to start missionary activity overseas. The first missionaries were sent to Benares (Varanasi), in India, in 1866. The Friends Foreign Mission Association was formed in 1868 and sent missionaries to Madhya Pradesh, India, forming what is now the Mid-India Yearly Meeting. Later it spread to Madagascar from 1867, China from 1896, Sri Lanka from 1896, and Pemba Island from 1897.[

>Founded at 17 Broad Street, Oxford, as the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief by a group of Quakers, social activists, and Oxford academics in 1942 and registered in accordance with UK law in 1943, the original Oxford Committee for Famine Relief was a group of concerned citizens including Henry Gillett (a prominent local Quaker), Theodore Richard Milford, Gilbert Murray and his wife Mary, Cecil Jackson-Cole and Alan Pim. The Committee met in the Old Library of University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford, for the first time in 1942, and its aim was to help starving citizens of occupied Greece, a famine caused by the Axis occupation of Greece and Allied naval blockades and to persuade

**Who or What is Misereor?**Misereor Super Turbam - I have compassion on the multitude (Jesus Christβs words - Gospel of Mark). The first word of this Biblical phrase is used for this organization - Misereor German Catholic Bishopsβ Organisation for Development Cooperation.
In its own words, βMISEREOR supports the weakest members of society: the poor, the sick, the hungry and the disadvantaged. To love oneβs neighbour is a basic attitude of Christian life, and MISEREORβs vocation is to translate this attitude into concrete action; The mandate given to MISEREOR by the German Bishops rules out the promotion of pastoral or missionary measures.β
To sum it up, Misereor is an Organization run by the Catholic Bishops of Germany which pursues secular work. Misereor works in many countries, including India. The missionary work of Catholic Bishops of Germany is conducted via another organization called Missio, also located in Aachen, Germany.
**What does Misereor do?**Again in its own words, βMISEREOR prefers to rely entirely on its local partners: Church-based institutions, non-governmental organisations, social movements and research institutes with which the agency cooperates closely, and in some cases has done so for decades. Together with the beneficiaries, the partners involved help shape local development processes and implement the projects. They receive support from MISEREOR in the form of advice, expertise and funds.β
Thus, Misereor does not get directly involved, but contributes in the form of funds and direction to local organizations across the world.
**How is Misereor funded?**Misereor gets substantial funding from the Federal Government of Germany via a mechanism called βChurch Taxβ. Typically, members of a given Church pay to the Government there, about 8-9% of their income tax as Church Tax, over and above their routine Income Tax. This Church Tax is then distributed by the Government among the various Church Groups. The Catho

In this Post, we shall examine the recipients of FCRA βdonationsβ from Association for Indiaβs Development (AID)-USA. AID-USA, given its moorings, is headquartered in the campus of University of Maryland, USA. Its EIN is 04-3652609.
The list of FCRA-NGOs who have received funds from AID-USA has been compiled from the FCRA database available for anyone to view, at the Ministry of Home Affairsβ website, fcraonline.nic.in . We thank them for making available this database.
The list of donees is available in the Table at the end of this Post. A few of the donations listed in the table are not necessarily from AID-USA (Maryland), but from some of its chapters such AID-Boston-USA etc.
AID-USA has βdonatedβ a total of around Rs. 26.2 Crore over the three years 2015-2017 to various FCRA-NGOs in Bharat. In the following, we shall examine a few of these recipient FCRA-NGOs.
A βFriends of JSSβ in UK is one of its chief donors. Other donors include McArthur Foundation, Oxfam etc. Overall, JSS appears to be doing good work. However, JSS is part of the National Coordination Committee of Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA). JSA, along with the so-called Right to Food campaign has not been happy with (to put mildly) Akshaya Patra Foundationβs participation in the mid-day meals programmes in many States.
Donors to PSA, other than AID are: American Jewish World Service, [Misereor](https://fcraanalyses.blogspot.com

On January 1, 2019, a news item appeared in several mainstream media outlets (see here for instance). The story was about how 50 environmental βexpertsβ wrote to the Union Ministry for Environment demanding that inland waterways projects (executed by the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways and Water Resources) seek environmental clearance and that such clearances be made legally binding. To understand the near-revolution created in efficient goods transport by reviving inland waterways, read this article.
The demand by activists/experts can be found here which contains the names of the signatories as well. Some of the arguments put forward in that letter are laughter-worthy, but let us, as is our practice, leave them aside. Instead, we will see who the signatories are. Actually, as is our wont, we are not interested in the signatories either. We are interested in the organizations/NGOs that they are part of (or run). An examination of the list revealed that many of the signatories belong to foreign funded NGOs, i.e., FCRA-NGOs in our parlance. The following provides the list of these FCRA-NGOs. Signatories whose names appear in the original letter, but do not figure in this post either do not belong to any FCRA-NGO or that this blogger is unable to find any public domain, credible information for the same.
Ok then, let us dive in.
Howdy,
I am curious about the possibility of boondocking on some of the rivers, lakes, and swamps in eastern MA in a small houseboat. What would prevent someone from doing this? Obviously, most people wouldn't want to do this, but I don't want to pay rent and have no issue taking unconventional routes toward that end. I would generally consider living in a van or box truck, but the water seems like it could be possible if it's legal.
I lived for a while on a pond in Western MA without issue in a johnboat conversion that I built, but never knew if it was actually legal for me to do so or not. It was a great experience, in winter I moored her in flowing water that never froze, down below a railroad bridge. It was a five minute walk to the road where my bike was locked. I hauled my water in and had a self-contained composting toilet unit. I never registered my boat as it didn't have a motor - I poled it around the swamp with a sapling.
I understand this is some weird shit that most people would not want to do, but I am simply asking: is it legal? Thanks.
The British Canoeing Union sell a license but do not explicitly say that it is illegal to paddle without one.
Anyone have the definitive answer, preferably with a link?
Cheers.
