A list of puns related to "Ineligible"
Distinguished posts are submissions or comments posted by a mod or admin, which they choose to highlight to indicate that they are speaking officially (such as this one for example). On old.reddit this may be a green highlight behind the username or green [M] next to it. On new.reddit and mobile, this is usually a green shield next to the username. For admins, this is usually a red highlight.
It was the understanding of most mods that distinguished posts were already ineligible for moons, which makes sense because mods have their own part of the moon distribution for their official actions. However, it was recently clarified by admins that sticky posts that are ineligible, and distinguished posts are considered for moons just like any other. I can't think of any reason for our official posts to be eligible for moons, so I would suggest changing this policy

Just Canadian things.
Please donβt tell me my SO should have more money or should have done better. We left the city for the middle of nowhere only the beginning of this year. Moving was at least $5k, not counting when we sold our previous place and needed to make special arrangements like storage, not counting real estate fees, lawyers fees. Who can afford to rent? 10 years ago when I was renting (prior to marriage) I was paying about $700/mo and finding a reasonable place for under $1k was possible. Now, itβs not. Not even in the boonies. I could rent a room for the same price here or in Toronto!!!
There is no dream. Either youβre very wealthy or you get nothing.
Did anyone have an issue with FLS saying payments were ineligible? They claim 19 of my payments donβt count because they were late, however all my payments were made on time through automatic withdrawal. I requested a hand count / review but was told it would take 6 months. Iβm about a year away from being able to apply for PSLF, but those 19 ineligible payments take me back about another year and a half. I know they werenβt late. So annoying.
I don't think I have all the information, but my grandmother owns 3 completely paid for houses. No mortgage or anything. Bought them over 30 years ago in our low COL area and has paid each one off.
She lives in one, and rents out the other two. The property in question is rented out to my gram's sister who is not retired and makes roughly $1000 gross a month and charges her $400 for rent.
My grandma claims that the state has contacted her and audited her 2020 tax return and has stated that she is charging too little and cannot be renting to a family member.
I don't understand why that is even possible when she owns the property outright. Is it a problem, with claiming deductions for the house and any issues with income that may come from it?
The agent who has been in contact with her is saying that he quoted the price of the house from Zillow and that at a minimum the property needs to be rented out for $1500 a month for the 2 bedroom/1 bath house. We looked up similar houses in the area on Remaxx, Apartments, and even Zillow and they range around $800-$1500 on average. The agent also said that she is now ineligible for her claimed deductions and owes up to an additional $10,000 for her 2020 taxes.
Talking to her tax preparer, they are considering filing a grievance.
If I am missing any information, I can get it from her. The biggest thing is that she nor I understand why this is even a thing since she owns the title to the house; why can't she charge what she wants? She has also been renting to family for years as I live in the other owned property with my girlfriend where we both pay $400 a month each which has never been a problem tax wise.
Edit: Thanks everyone for your insight on a topic I came into with minimal understanding. I think I was able to learn enough about the topic to talk to my grandma and help her move forward and do her own research better for next year. Seems she could have got better counsel earlier on from her tax preparer.
I have a chronic medical condition ( T1 Diabetes) that prevents me from enlisting in the military. Iβm 28 years old and looking to start a new chapter in my life. I have a decent job now doing manual labor, but itβs a dead end and I want to do more, to do something that will make me feel like Iβm serving society. I thrive in highly structural environments, ones where I receive orders and follow them in an almost military like manner if that makes sense.
Are there any alternatives for work or volunteer work available to people with medical conditions such as mine? Iβm preferably looking for a career change, but starting with part time volunteer work is also acceptable to me of course.
Thank you in advance.
New York State -
My grandfather passed away and our family is suspecting that my aunt may have altered the will and had my grandfather sign via undue influence or due to a lack of competency on my grandfathers part. One of the witnesses to the signing of the will is a direct employee of my aunt, who has testified that she felt she had to sign as a witness or her job would be in jeaprody. Does this make this witness ineligible on the basis of A. They are being coerced/pressured to sign as a witness regardless of what they are witnessing regarding my grandfathers competency, and B. She is being paid to witness the signing by a beneficiary of the will, making her an interested witness?
Hope this all makes sense, thanks for the help!
Assuming they pick someone from the Giants (which they very well may not), who would get the spot? I think it should either be Rogers or Disco, but I am obviously very biased in this decision as I am the unofficial Tyler Rogers fan club. Who, either from SF or the rest of the league, do you think should get the spot?
Itβs really important to me to understand what Iβm doing with my money and my retirement. Iβve been contributing to a Roth IRA for the last five months, but Iβm about to change jobs and will no longer be allowed to do so based on my new income.
What should I do with the contributions from 2021, step by step, to avoid getting in trouble or future complication? Will a tax person be able to figure this out? I can probably easily figure out the contributions but what about the growth? Also when should I try and fix this, now or later?
I will start this post by saying that, yes, I do regret being in a field where my income to debt ratio is not worth it, so thereβs that (social work)
I currently work for a health plan that is a βwholly owned subsidiaryβ of a non-profit health care organization. For the last two years, I was under the impression (as told by my supervisor) that since we are under the βblanketβ of the larger company, that my position was considered as qualifying for PSLF because itβs for a non-profit.
Turns out the health insurance company, despite being owned by a non-profit is technically for profit. The last time I submitted my PSLF yearly paperwork, all I had to do was download the form, fill it out with my employer's EIN, have it signed and send it in. It's been approved up until mid 2019. The new process forces you to validate the EIN on the website before they'll provide the application- now saying that my EIN is ineligible and I have to provide proof that it is a non-profit.
I'm trying to figure out if my employer is a "disregarded entity" but the most recent 990 form doesn't have any listed disregarded entities, however it does list my place of employment as a "Related Tax Exempt Organization" on the same 990.
Does anyone have any advice/experience/whatever with this? Did I just waste my last two years at this job? Ugh.
Received notice of results stating I was ineligible because I failed to submit my SF-50 when I applied. Is there anything I can do?
And these guys had audacity to speak about democratizing computing industry at their keynote while their stupid requirements will make millions of perfectly capable computers ineligible for Windows 11 update.
Husband and I got married earlier this year. We decided to keep our separate health insurances. Then I just happened to stumble upon something that said I can't contribute to a HSA if my new-husband has an FSA that he could use on me, even if he doesn't actually reimburse any of my expenses. There's some corrections that can be done and you're allowed to have the HSA for the months you weren't considered married though. If I had known, I would have done the math / stopped contributing earlier.
Also a couple other things to watch out for
- Roth IRA income limits - the MAGI that phasing out starts is less than double (e.g. your combined income could put you over even if separately, the individual income limits were okay when you were considered single -- single begins at $125K while married is $198K)
- The deadline you have to actually change benefit elections with your employers
- Cashing checks out made to both you and your partner. Before we had a joint account, one of our parents gave us a large check for a wedding gift, and we had to go in person to cash the check.
If anyone has anything else - feel free to chime in!
I'm studying some classic Ogilvy ads, and there's a word in one of his Schweppes ads that I can't make out, no matter how much I squint: "'Schweppes Bitter lemon is the first adult soft drink," declares the Schweppesman, 'the only one you can order without feeling like a [???]'"
Link to the ad: https://swipefile.com/schweppes-bitter-lemon-print-ad/
Not a single website so far re-wrote the ad copy for it to be more legible; it started as an inconvenience, but now I've spent almost half an hour in mad rage trying to make it out.
