The Dutch might block the use of Google Analytics

Personal Data Authority warns of possible ban on Google Analytics

The Personal Data Authority is warning that the use of Google Analytics "may soon no longer be permitted. It does so after a ruling by the Austrian privacy regulator. The AP wants to make its own final conclusion in early 2022.

The new text is in a guide for the privacy-friendly setting of Google Analytics that the AP has published. The regulator has added an update to that since Thursday, warning that the use of Google Analytics "may soon not be allowed. The AP does this after a ruling by the Austrian privacy regulator. That concluded earlier this week that the use of Analytics violates the AVG because the tool collects cookie data unnecessarily and sends it to the US.

The Personal Data Authority says that it is also still investigating the use of the tool in the Netherlands. It is doing so in response to two complaints. "Upon completion of that investigation, in early 2022, the AP will be able to say whether Google Analytics is now permitted or not."

It is striking that the AP is so anticipating an investigation and issuing such a warning. Normally, the regulator says nothing about ongoing investigations. Also, a violation of the AVG does not immediately mean that the use of a tool must be banned; for example, Google could make adjustments, as it did previously after an investigation into the use of Google Workspace for Education.

What are your thoughts on this?

Mid Thirties Looking for a Change of Career - Free Code Camp vs Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate?

Hi folks,

Firstly, I just wanted to wish everyone here a Happy New Year and all the very best for the rest of 2022! Hopefully, this year brings everything you ask and strive for!

So like the title states, I'm in my mid thirties and looking for a new career change into the world of Data Analytics. It seems like a promising job role with plenty of opportunities where I live (Edinburgh, Scotland) which is great to see.

Now for a little backstory. When I first left University, I started my IT Career in Software Testing which I continued for 6 years between two global IT organisations. After 6 years, an opportunity came along that I felt was enticing at the time. I left the Software Testing field all together, and moved abroad where I started a small e-commerce business. Sadly, things never worked out as I had hoped and I ended up getting screwed by my business partner. The aftereffects from that were soul destroying and it took a big hit on my overall confidence and general enthusiasm for IT. For the past 2 years, since the Covid outbreak, I've been working in construction. The moneys piss poor, but I needed something stress free to get my life back in order. Thankfully, the break away from anything stressful has done me the world of good and I'm keen to get back involved in a completely different sector.

After doing some research during the Xmas holidays, I've been hearing great things about the newly offered course by Google for Data Analytics - Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate. The one other option I've read good things about is the Data Anaylsis with Python Course offered by the Free Code Camp (FCC).

What I'd like to know is which of these would be more beneficial as far as trying to line up my first ever entry job as a Data Anaylst? Since I'm completely new to the world of Data Analytics, I figured the Data Analysis course by the Free Code Camp would be great to get started. My biggest issue with this course though is that there's no official certificate that I get given at the end of it so I'd be unable to stick it down on my CV when it comes to job hunting. With the Google Data Analytics Certificate, I'd be a certified Data Analytics Professional at the end of it. Obviously, the one drawback with the Google Certificate is it's a paid course, whereas the FCC Course is completely free.

Data analytics google cert.

Has anyone here taken the data analytics google cert and secured a remote entry-level job because of it? I’m thinking of taking the course in order to have a start in data analytics but would like some real reviews on it.

Would this be advisable for someone in the EU to help improve and secure job offers from American companies?

Thanks!

ETA: Are there any other data analytics courses that are more valuable and available online? Price doesn’t matter as long I can complete it online and it’s available for EU citizens.

Has anyone done any of the Google Certificates? I'm planning on doing the data analytics certification and was wondering if anyone had any advice or any luck using these skills in your current role or if it set you up for an entry level position in the field you picked. I currently work in HR as a HR specialist and plan to finish my associates in business so I thought this would give me some good exposure to data analytics and giving me some options for a new job with my current experience.

Looking for the cheapest alternatives to Google Analytics

Hi! I'm a developer interested in implementing an analytic tool for some little no-profit projects (under 1k visits per month). I have tried services like Matomo and Pirsch but no one of those services offer a free plan for under 10k visits.

However as you may know Matomo offers a free self hosted solution, so my question is what could be the cheapest non devil shared server solution? (I don't have a personal server).

thank you:)

Any tips for Someone who has an unrelated degree and a Google Data Analytics Certificate?

Long story short, I graduated with an unrelated degree (Strategic communications) but did some ad tech projects that involved a bit of data analysis. I got the certificate soon after to grasp hard skills such as SQL, Spreadsheets, Tableau, R, etc., and want to pursue a career in Data Analytics/Science.

During my job search I was able to grab the attention of a pretty big company for an entry-level Operations Data analyst role I studied so hard and went into detail about the skills I had but after a month and a half and 5 interviews I learned they decided to hire someone who majored in data analysis instead (sucks but it's understandable.)

It seems that the competition is pretty tough, especially since I only have the data certificate and my major doesn't really delve too deep into data. So my question is, what are some things I can do to stand out to employers (specific projects, portfolios, added skills, etc.)? Are there specific skills I need to emphasize more as an aspiring data analyst?

How to use google analytics properly?

I swear I recall betty white dying back in the early 2000's mainly because of shows like golden girls and that 70's show paying tributes to her. I stopped watching TV around 2012 - 2013 and I distinctly remember this happening once before. I even remember my mother mentioning a comment mom the other day "huh, that's weird seeing a picture of Ryan Renyolds with betty white I thought she was dead" my mother even commented and anytime I try to convince her of the mandela effect she always plays it off and doesn't want to believe its a real thing and looks for any reasonable explanation on why she might have forgotten or weird effects.

Lighthouse score jumped 8 points just by moving from Google Analytics to Plausible.

A friend brought up Plausible in a conversation a few days ago. I've been looking for an alternative to Google Analytics for quite some time (main concerns are performance, avoiding ad blockers & browsers that block client-side analytics, and UX of the admin). There's a self-hosted option, so I spun it up on a Digital Ocean server (found some great documentation; took maybe ~20 minutes), and wired up one of my sites with it -- typeitjs.com.

I have been incredibly pleased by this thing in the short time I've used it. It's lightweight, extremely intuitive compared to GA (including the UI, and even things like the custom event API), and super easy to proxy through my own domain (they even have dedicated documentation for it).

And to top it off, I ran some before/after Lighthouse reports and was kinda elated as a result. My performance score jumped by EIGHT POINTS with this single change. I was extra satisfied, since GA is one of those scripts that consistently pops up in Lighthouse a thing I should address.

Like I said, I've only used the tool for a short time, but I've been so blown away that I can't shut up about it. If you're looking for a GA alternative like I was, give it a shot. If you're not into self-hosting, there's a paid version as well.

We are lost in finding where the new Terms are.

E-commerce Google Ads/Analytics question

Hi. Im an experienced advertiser but very new to google ads. I’m having some early success but I have a couple questions I was hoping someone may be happy to share some experience on. If this isn’t the right place for this feel free to delete.

So I have my Google Ads account set to use conversion data from Google Analytics (as I’m sure most of you all do as well) and I am noticing some discrepancies.

For starters, Google Ads consistently shows about 10-15% less conversions than GA in general both in large and small windows.

Secondly, google analytics shows steady sales coming in throughout the entire day. Google ads on the other hand shows updated spend, click and impression data throughout the day but often 0 sales the entire day until the next day. It’s like there is a lag, but since the data pulls from GA shouldn’t it be the same?

Third thing is that while the conversion data pulls into Google Ads, the conversion value does not. Just shows as 0 when in reality GA is tracking the real value.

So I guess my question is, is this typical of how Ads & analytics interact? Does it sound like my account setup could be wrong? Any insight appreciated.

Ps: I did not have anything to do with the implementation of this account, It was created before I was hired to manage it. I’m not really on the technical side of this.

They suggest adding google analytics through a plugin called monsterinsights(which I learnt from searching this sub that it is filled with bloatware). What should I do?

Does Google access your steam data for tracking you for it's analytics?

I ask this because I started playing a game on steam that I haven't played in a long time and all of a sudden I got Youtube video recommendations for that game. The timing seemed really sus.

I assume Steam doesn't sell your data to Google and my steam account is public not private so I wouldn't be surprised if their algorythm noticed it. But as far as I'm aware Google shouldn't be able to associate your Steam account with your Google account.

So I'm wondering if i'm onto something or if I'm just grasping at straws. In the end I did watch videos of that game before on Youtube and Youtube might have decided to recommend them again to me for no real reason.
