Galen Puns

I want to start with saying I love the look of the Galen leather A5 zipfolio. I love being able to carry multiple pens and I have started journaling and I'm using a mindjournal. It's fairly thick I think 260 ish pages. I'm wondering if it's too thick for the galen leather. I've also heard their shipping can be a bit long and of course they are sold out of the color I want, crazy horse smokey. So I am wondering is there something similar with similar functionality that I should be looking at? Anyone with the galen confirm it can hold a thick journal? Anyone want to sell their zipfolio a5 in smokey?

I looked at bellroy and I don't know that it's as functional and well the price isn't as fun lol 😆.

Lochby looks nice but not a zip around and doesn't have the cool other features like the removable pen holder. But it's a lot cheaper.

Pen boutique has a nice looking one but the cheap price has me a bit skeptical. I like I can carry more pens in it than just one 😏. I don't carry ink around but it's a cool feature.

What else folks who should I look at. If you make cool leather ones let me know I want something cool and functional.

I just read this post about Starkiller (Galen Marek) and I agree with all of the comments in it. Starkiller is a power fantasy Mary Sue character who's given an overly large role in SW at the cost of other already important characters. And this is from someone who enjoyed the game immensely, power fantasy and all!

You know another similar character? Kyle Katarn. Now it's been many ages since I played the Dark Forces games and they were my only source for this character, so please forgive me for my rusty memory but here are the things that Katarn has achieved:

1. Single-handedly stole the top secret DS1 plans from a supposedly very high security facility

2. Single-handedly brought down the Imperial Dark Trooper project

3. Killed hundreds of stormtroopers and other Imperial military personal in the process (I admit we're veering in to pure gameplay territory with this one but for a character like Katarn who's achievements are so intrinsically tied to the games, it's hard to do otherwise)

4. Self-taught Jedi from the barest minimum of teaching sources. He went from a force-sensitive non-user to complete master, pretty much all by himself! In that period he manages to defeat multiple Sith, some of whom were very powerful, all the way to Sith lord Jerrec!

5. Becomes a teaching Jedi master in Luke's new Jedi academy. He now seems to be on par with Luke freakin Skywalker in power!

The only thing in my view that separates Katarn and Marek, in my view, is the flashiness of Marek's game which is the result gaming technology. In all other respects, they both have the same kind of power level and potential and same sort of story cheapening power inserts. At least Marek had Vader to teach him. Yet despite all of this, I still regularly hear people wishing for Katarn to be made canon.

I kinda get it, I too loved the games and got a similar kind of power-fantasy rush playing them, but I recognized even then that Katarn wasn't a good character for the universe as a whole, just like Marek wasn't many years later. So why is Katarn so much more beloved?

But it was a nice change for Eric and Brady. He has a great rapport with Arianne/Nicole. Foolish to destroy that couple.

They have great rhythm and chemistry. In the Christmas movie, at the end, Eric comes off the stage on his Santa boxers, as it snows, and rubs Nicole's arm in a very old-friends, heartbreaking way.

He has such humor and charm, and is handed the most inane, ludicrous, nothing Burger storyline.

So his exchange with Nicole, a little teasing, natural, endearing...why don't they give him more of this?

Galen was a sexy beast on that table. Why keep him spinning his wheels being a dogfish, when he could be so much more?

I'm thinking a Gwen/Brady pairing, or Gwen/Rafer could be very interesting.

But I'm here for Brady and Nicole to team up and stir things up in Salem, not as villains, but as provocateur.

Then again, Brady and Anna would be a hoot...

So, after posting on a semi-related Stellaris thread that got into how a farmboy nobody could take out a moon sized battle station, I got to thinking... We know Galen Erso "put in a flaw" that let the Death Star get destroyed. One of the many exhaust ports was the key to this- and this makes sense: make the flaw too obvious, and it gets patched.

Now, from the schematics, we know there were a large amount of exhaust ports- the inner portion of the Death Star would need a lot of ventilation. Several had to be directly from the power core, since the reaction chamber would need the most to not overheat. But what made that specific exhaust port special?

My theory is that while it was designed to be an exhaust port, it functionally wasn't one. Logically, all that gas being expelled from the small but numerous exhaust ports is going to cause a large amount of turbulence and "head winds" for anything flying into one- so what if this exhaust port DIDN'T expel the RC's gas/heat? If the exhaust system was designed with some redundancy, it wouldn't be crazy to have one vent/port that didn't expel gas- leaving a clear path without the opposing forces that all the other exhaust ports would have. And as long as the system was functioning normally, no reason for any of the maintenance crews to check that specific port out. (Heck, a little programming to have the port show as functioning normally- or just mimicking one of the other ports- and that covers the bases even better.)

It would be a subtle flaw, one that wouldn't be thought of as fatal (not like there were dozens of other exhaust ports- IF they even noticed that one was behaving differently). Since Proton Torpedoes and Concussion Missiles were in use prior to the Clone Wars, it would make sense thinking they could get the job done- heck, a demolitions crew crawling thru the long pipe (that isn't superheated FOR SOME REASON) with a nice explosive set would be another way to get the job done.

TL;DR: I surmise Galen Erso made one of the many exhaust ports that lead Death Star's reaction non-functional (but made it look like it did) (since anything structurally different from other exhaust ports would draw attention to it).

Out of all of the antagonists, I thought Galen was being set up to be one of the most dangerous. His actor was great and immediately had a hostile relationship with Jax that you knew wouldn’t end well. He was the representation of what Jax wanted to get the club away from and once Jax declared that they were pulling away from the guns, it seemed like things were really going to hit the fan and Galen would take his place as main antagonist of season 6.

The “hands off my club” bit when he killed Filthy Phil was a great start and then he blew up the clubhouse. He seemed primed to live up to the butcher of Belfast moniker, maybe even overthrow the other Irish Kings but then…that was about it. He made the club somewhat submit and then didn’t contribute to the story much until he was unceremoniously shot right before Clay’s death.

Always felt like a waste to me to pull the plug on his villainy when he seemed to just be getting started.

I was planning on buying something from Galen leather for my birthday, but when I looked today every item is listed as sold out. Does anyone know if this is temporary or should I look elsewhere? I'd heard really good things about them but if anyone had any other recommendations for companies that ship to Australia I'd be interested to hear.

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or recommendations for pen cases for collections of Kaweco Sports. Not the Galen Leather ones, however. Those are beautiful, but I'm not actually a big fan of leather cases.

I love the Kaco Pen Casesand I use them for all of my other pens - but the sports are laughable small in those spots and there's a lot of empty space. Was hoping to find a similar case (similar material and cost, I mean) but sized appropriately for Kaweco Sport. I have a lot of them.

Anybody come across something like that in the past?

Starkiller is often criticized as being a Mary Sue because of his immense force powers, and I get that he's kind of OP. However, it must be remembered that video game protagonists are SUPPOSED to be super OP. Players love being unstoppable badasses, and the games wouldn't be nearly as much fun otherwise.

Besides all this, I like his character arc about learning to abandon the destructive path of vengeance and value his friends and allies. He is betrayed and nearly killed twice, but in the end he refuses to give in to his anger and hatred and instead ends up sacrificing himself for his friends. It's a pretty great character arc, honestly.

What do you all think? Does Starkiller deserve all the hate he gets?
