A list of puns related to "Folding Kayak"
I've had my eye on one of these (the Bay ST specifically) for a few months, and I finally went to REI today and saw one in person (and lifted a folded model to see how heavy it really feels) and I'm really into it. I scrolled back a month and didn't see anyone using one of these kayaks or posting about one, but I was hoping there might be some folks here who have experience with one.
Especially this is a sanity check for someone to tell me why I shouldn't buy one.
Thanks!
Hi all - I've been researching ebikes and think the Radwagon 4 may be the bike for me. I love the obvious role it could play for errands or even bikepacking, and really just appreciate the idea of an ebike as an alternative to driving (esp. in the area we're in which can be pretty hilly). However, one use-case came to mind that I'd love any feedback on - either in lived experiences or educated guesses.
My fiancΓ©e and I are avid kayakers, but we're also currently living the apartment life so we tend to use a set of folding kayaks to save on space & for ease of transport. The boats are 26lbs each and - when folded - are 33" x 14" x 29". We currently either toss them both in our trunk & drive or take the bus to the put-in, but it would be awesome to be able to bike to the put-in instead.
Given the weight & dimensions, how feasible does it seem to carry two of these boats on the back of a single Radwagon? I imagine they could be carried like two giant panniers, but am having a hard time imagining just how much space the back of the bike can really manage, and how easy it is to truck oversized loads.
Thanks!
My husband and I want to get out on the water, we enjoy kayaking when we rent kayaks, and thought it would be nice to own our own. But we live in an appartment where there is no place to keep a full kayak, let alone two of them, so we were looking into the folding kayaks like Oru and Terravent.
However we don't want to spend over $1K to find out that it breaks at the seams or is dangerous when the water is whitecapping. We plan on taking it out on flat days on the big river.
Thanks!
Was browsing Amazon for prime day and saw this thing: https://www.amazon.com/TERRAVENT-Foldable-Lightweight-Portable-Folding/dp/B07J57SQK3/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=folding%2Bkayak&qid=1624485776&sr=8-3&th=1
Must be new since there's no reviews yet. Looks like a Chinese clone of Oru's Bay for half the price. Anyone have one yet and want to share?
After a bunch of googling, I still don't know where to begin so suggestions are welcome. I'm looking for something that folds up and feels stable on the water. I'm not expecting to use it in choppy water, just lakes. Bonus if it seats 2 people. Budget is under $1k preferred, but flexible. Help?
I'm trying to decide between them.
My boyfriend and I are looking into getting two kayaks of our own to do all day float trips, maybe a few multi-day trips, and occasionally visit a lake. Previously we've borrowed from friends or rented. He's really gung-ho for getting the truktec folding kayaks or an inflatable one but I have concerns with both and am looking for input. Our pricepoint is around $350 per kayak. I'm also concerned for both types about hitting very shallow water and the occasional rough spot of turbulent water. For what it's worth he is 5'10 and 235lbs and I am 5'9" and 150lbs. No white water, so that's not a concern.
For the truktec ones, they seem to operate more like canoes and I'm worried since my research suggests they tip easy and are impossible to get back into without being on shore. Being in Missouri we often have fairly long stretches on the river with no shoreline/tall bluffs and I would hate to have to swim a mile to get back in the boat in cold water.
As for inflatable ones I have heard they are very slow. Would it be reasonable to get 8-12 miles in a day on an inflatable one? Any concerns about having them on rivers?
Hey folks!
After falling in love with kayaking again, I'm looking for a folding kayak (as I've got little storage space in my tiny apartment.)
I've been looking at the Oru Bay ST as I'm mostly planning for river kayaking with some light-medium rapids here and there. Can anyone comment on Oru's build quality/durability? Is there another brand/product that I should look into?
Cheers for taking the time to read, looking forward to see what you have to say :)
Hi There,
Iβm looking to purchase my first kayak. I have been looking into inflatable and folding kayaks and have seen mixed reviews. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area which is why Iβm looking for something that can easily be stored. Iβd greatly appreciate any pros/cons, which one you prefer, any brand recommendations, or any advice you may have. I am looking for something that I can use on a river or lake and can work well in choppy water or windy conditions. Thanks!!
A neighbor of mine is moving out of state and is selling a late 90s Feathercraft K2. I'm wondering if it's worth taking a chance on this kayak? He's asking for $1,000...
My concern is that the material may have broken down over time due to it being over 20 years old. The deck is made of 1000 denier nylon Cordura.
Here is a link describing the deck components and care: http://feathercraft.com/deck/
He's had it in storage for years without using it.
Hoping to get some feedback here since I can't find much info online. Would it be worth the gamble to buy it at this price?
Thanks in advance for your help!
I have a 2nd gen (2010) base model and work nights. Looking towards next year just packing something up before work and heading out afterwards. Trying to avoid getting a rack. I'm wondering what kayak models people have had success with.
hi /russia
I seek wisdom -my Summer vacation Plan is on the one edge. One of the best sea Folding Kayaks the Nortik Argo is for a long time on my personal wish list. Itβs pretty expensive - or not affordable for me with ~ 2300 β¬ ( 2800 $) in Germany. But the Company that produces the Kayak, Triton is based in Russia Sankt Petersburg. They sell it on the Russian market as Triton Vector for less the half of this price with a lot of extensions included. So even with Taxes and Travel Costs it makes sense to buy it in Russia.
After reading some kayak forums I decided to drive to Sankt Petersburg and buy 2 Boats, for my girlfriend and me. And then COVID-19 came, and the Russian Border is closed for non-diplomatic/work related traveling in the past 6 Months.
There seems to be no secure Shipping service from Russia to Germany under Packet costs 1000β¬. In Russia there seems to be no big US Companys like Paypal, Ebay,Amazon .
I have no clue how to solve this - Any suggestions or Experience how to buy and get it to Germany?
Thanks a lot!

Relative newbie to paddling. A month ago I posted another thread seeking recommendations, but I had much less experience and yet to actually purchase and use a boat, so my questions were uninformed. I eventually bought an Innova Vagabond inflatable travel canoe and have tried it out in a few different conditions in my home state of MD. It's well made but clearly doesn't fit my needs, so I'm going to sell it. On the plus side, the experience has given me a much better sense of what I need.
Necessary criteria:
Under $1,400 at the very max.
Ideal but not mandatory:
It can be paddled solo or tandem.
It's currently in stock somewhere!!
(#7 and #8 are probably asking too much, so please don't feel pressured to recommend something that accommodates them.)
I've already looked at some other options from Innova, Sea Eagle, and Advanced Elements, but would like to hear your input and perspective. After only a few paddling sessions I'm clearly hooked on this hobby and already want to take it to the next level.
Happy paddling!
Edit: oh yeah, here's the obligatory dog pic. :D

I'm thinking about getting one of these just to take out on the river near in my neighborhood. I live in a studio so I dont have room for a regular one and all of the shops are closed due to this quarantine that may last quite a while.
Anyone have experience with these? Thoughts?
Hello, I'm looking for a folding kayak but ORU's are crazy expensive. A guy in the next state over is selling some YOW folding kayaks, which I can't find much information about at all. They look like an ORU copy. For 700 australian dollars (around $400 USD) then it's a great buy even if it's only half as good as an ORU.
Does anyone have any experience with these at all? Any general advice?
