A list of puns related to "Fingerprick"
I'm looking into doing some STI testing.
Found some great options where I can take samples at home via urine and a fingerprick.
Trying to figure out if this will be just as accurate vs visiting a clinic and doing an IV blood draw?
For example:
Would a fingerprick test for HIV have the same sensitivity and specificity as an IV blood drawn test?
Hey all. Just want to ask if a rapid HIV antibody test using blood from fingerprick that yield a non-reactive/negative result is CONCLUSIVE 16weeks after possible exposure (activity was oral sex, Iβm the receiver, but got a micro cut on my penis that time)? Should I move on and put all the worries to rest? Thanks in advance for answering!
Quick question.
I'm with a private provider in the UK, and I did my blood tests with a private company, too. They provide fingerprick tests for no extra cost, and a venous test for additional cost. I opted for the fingerprick test, and it turned out that the test went haywire (probably due to gel).
36,890pmol/L E
1.3 nmol/L T
So, I know the E test is completely irrelevant, because I'm only on 2mg and that's literally impossible. My question would be, would the contamination of gel (and the crazy high E levels) also interfere with my T levels in my blood, or is that part actually still a valid result?
I think it is, because the suppression of T doesn't happen within the blood, but as a result of your endocrine system. Estradiol gel residue being present in the blood wouldn't reduce the amount of T in the blood, right?
As an aside, I'm going for the venous tests next time, I've heard it plenty now that fingerpricks are terrible for accuracy!
I was diagnosed with type 2 in December. I don't strictly speaking need to test (NHS isn't providing me with any kit, nurse didn't even mention it) But I realise from things people here have said that it's a good idea (and honestly it was driving me nuts not knowing if my diet changes and meds were doing any good)
However. I am petrified of the fingerprick test. I don't love needles generally, but fingerprick is by far the worst. Something about the quick stab I think.
My Dad is type 1 (yes, you'd think I'd be used to the tests, and smart enough to avoid type 2, but hey ho) He brought his test kit when he visited last week, and I wimped out completely. Went a bit wobbly just at the thought of it.
During the week I had a think about how to approach it, and he brought his kit again today. And I did it! I took a control of it more, and let myself build up to it slowly. And honestly never stabbed very deep (had to squeeze to get blood out) But I did it! Actually, did it several times through the course of the day. A mixture of on my hand and on my thumb.
The icing on the cake is my fasting was 4.9 mmol/l, ~2hrs after lunch (a fry-up with ~26g carb) it was 4.8 mmol/l, and an hour after eating a banana and some grapes it was 7.2 mmol/l. Which suggests I'm on the right track.
So thank you to folks here who enouraged me to push through and start testing!
I started T a few weeks ago and needed a hormone blood check before my next prescription. Ordered a home kit and did the whole fingerprick stuff. All good. Only thing is, my finger is super numb and i get this weird feeling in it as if the circulation was cut off. Itβs been a day since I did the test so I was just wondering if this was a common feeling? thanks :)
My doctor has me checking my bloodsugar via fingerprick for a couple weeks before meals. I've never done this. Can anyone share ways to be discreet at work, how keep from getting blood everywhere and just useful tips?
So i have an EXTREME phobia from injections and i was in contact with a covid patient lately and i have this phobia so bad that iβve been sickeningly anxious about this thought lately. So if anyone knows if itβs a finger spot kind of test or not please help me out.
The doctors and nurses kept assuring me that these tests aren't really accurate and to get a blood test, but I couldn't help but cry when they told me. We live in an old building but I have never seen my baby with any paint chips. She has occasionally licked the wall (we would stop her immediately), but all walls have been covered by bookcases and such for a while. She does not go to daycare and either myself or her father have always been with her since birth. My parents who live next door did just finish having construction done on a room and a porch less than 40 feet from us, and we spend time there often. We also have a garden that we grow some food in... could it even be in the soil and our fresh produce??
I am just devastated... I know the test might not be accurate until I get the blood test, but I specifically have bought/grow organic foods and got organic sheets and some organic clothing, I try to get toys from reputable companies, etc (though lots of clothes and toys have been gifts from who knows where). I worry for her health the most... and I also worry because if the new blood test comes back high, "the state" will come to check out our residence... and then the horror stories of CPS seizing my beautiful angel become to much to bear (though I know I am probably overreacting and emotional right now)...
Anyone had experience with this?... I appreciate it.
by fingerprick i mean via home test kits and venous are at the doctor
