Excedrin eating a hole in your stomach?

I have had migraines since I was a kid. I did all the OTC meds for years and years. Excedrin migraine worked for me for a long time, until it didn't. I'm now using sumatriptan and it really helps, so I'm grateful. However, my insurance covers 6 doses per month. So I supplement with Excedrin that I take with an ultra strength rolaids chaser. But with Excedrin, I can get such severe stomach pain I sometimes can't sleep. If you have this issue, what helps your stomach pain most? I'm tired of deciding which pain I'm going to deal with. Both suck!

Excedrin never works

To preface this: I only get migraines two or three times a month, definitely on the low end but I wanted to ask if anyone else has issues with Excedrin migraine. Even if I take it as soon as I feel one coming on it does absolutely nothing and the migraine continues to get worse until I either throw up or sleep for several hours. Are there any other over the counter medications that I could try instead?

SOS is it okay to take excedrin migraine with my triptan?

Yes I know I should ask my pharmacist but I am looking for personal experience here as it is an emergency!! I woke up with what I thought was a headache (I should have known better) so I took two excedrin and tried to lay back down. It’s very apparent 20 minutes later that this is becoming a killer migraine and excedrin isn’t going to touch it. Do I need to wait to take maxalt since I just took the two excedrin? I did Google this but I’m not getting any solid results. Has anyone ever taken them together? I know it will be hard on my liver but the pain is quickly worsening and I have things to do today. Right now I can barely look at my phone to type this. Thank you in advance!!

I don't know what it is about excedrin pain reliever that can knock out my headaches and migraines

No this isn't an ad or sponsor for excedrin. Just wanted to say that for Me it's what works 99% of the time. The other 1% Is the nuclear option, i.e. sumatriptan. I can take generic or any other brand and it doesn't do jack against the pain. The standard 2 pills and give it 20 minutes and that's about all it takes, most of the time.

Anywho, what works for you?

What's up with Excedrin PM?

I'm 61 and therefore not having the hormonal variety of migraine any longer--my only remaining triggers are alcohol and the barometer. The barometer has been pretty hard to control (=: and I tend to get those at night. Excedrin PM was a godsend...but now I can't find it, and I can't seem to find any answers via Mr. Google. Anyone know if it's coming back??

Edit: Yes, I know I can take all three ingredients separately, and occasionally I do. But I find I'm not all that competent when stumbling around my bathroom in the dark, and I appreciate the convenience of opening just the one bottle.

Don't make me edit this to explain why I am not turning on the light (=:

And then maybe a combination of drinking more water idk.. I’ll work my day job then do some instacarts n stuff sometimes… also does anyone take any stress relief stuff like valerian root, ashwaganda, 5HTP, or anything like that? I don’t but my melatonin before had lemon balm mixed (up and up brand, Target), now this topcare one is 3 mg or vs 5 mg.

Took excedrin for the first time and am I supposed to feel this awful with the side effects?

Today I got a super bad fever and headache so I decided to take 800 mg ibuprofen pill and two extra strength excedrin and at first it lowered my temperature and relived my headache but now I feel like I have the worst acid reflux, I feel so light headed that I cannot feel parts of my body, got nauseous for a bit and my eyes hurt and I can’t fall asleep. If anyone has an idea of if it’s the excedrin that’s causing this I’d love to know 🥺

How hard is weaning off Excedrin?

I’m in the first few hours of trying to wean off Excedrin after taking 1-2 pills daily for the better part of 2 decades. I’m pretty sure it’s derailing all my neurologist’s therapies, and the morning headaches are debilitating. Plus I think the caffeine is starting to give me scary heart rate issues.

I woke up with my regular headache today and took half a pill with about 16oz of water, instead of a whole one. It worked for about 40 minutes and now my headache is coming back full force.

Should I take another half? Take a Ubrelvy? Take nothing and try to sleep through it? Have a coffee or caffeine pill?

I’m also worried about how long the withdrawal period is. Should I hold off on doing this until the end of the month when I have 2 weeks off? I’m most worried I’ll power through the weekend but backslide the minute I have to go to work and can’t handle the headache. I really don’t want to do this more than once if I can help it.

Any advice or tips would be much appreciated!

Does anyone else experience this after taking excedrin?

So here’s how excedrin normally works for me, and I’m curious if anyone else experiences the same thing. I’ll take it, but it may take over two hours to have any sort of effect. The caffeine can kick in before then, but much of the time I don’t feel the full caffeine jitters until HOURS after I’ve taken it - I’m talking 6-8+ hours, long after the meds should have worn off. It badly affects my sleep when this happens, as I can take it at 4pm and be rearin’ to go at 11 when I’m ready for bed. I’m not uch of a coffee drinker, but if I do drink it, it doesn’t ever have this strong of an effect on me. What’s the deal? Why does this happen? Anyone else have this going on as well? Any thoughts/advice/similar stories welcome! :)

Desperately trying to stop taking Excedrin but the rebound headaches are killing me; please help.

Excedrin is one of the only things that knocks out a headache for me, but it's gotten to the point that I absolutely know that I'm having rebound headaches. However, when I try to stop taking it I'm not only having rebound headaches but caffeine withdrawals which make it even worse.

How in the world do I get through this?? I can't keep taking my Maxalt for every little headache because it makes me so exhausted/dizzy.

Has anyone been able to successfully stop taking Excedrin and do you guys have any tips? Obviously I'm not looking for medical advice, just need a bit of encouragement that it's possible.

Thank you in advance to anyone that has advice on how to deal with this.

Will Excedrin cause me stomach pain if I take it more than 5 time a week like Advil?

So, long story short, among other reasons, I sleep absolutely horribly, I've been having PTSD nightmares in about 95% of my nights in the past 3 years. As such, or at least one of the reasons why, I have really bad migraines everyday almost, seemingly for no reason. Often it's after work, but sometimes like today, it just happens for no reason in my day off while I'm outside walking in the forest and breathing the fresh air with my girlfriend (although I slept absolutely horribly last night).

Basically, the issue is have with Advil (Ibuprofen) is that it gives me really bad stomach pain if I use it for maybe a week or two about 5 times a week. So now I can't use painkillers anymore and my headaches just continue forever until I go to bed.

Are there any other painkillers that would be easier on my stomach? Maybe Excedrin?

Heart palpitations, horrible insomnia after Excedrin??

I don’t get migraines very often but when I do I usually just take some off brand version of Excedrin migraine relief and it works wonders. Last night, I had either a bad headache or a migraine coming on and I figured I’d try to nip it in the bud with the Excedrin so I took 2 pills following the directions.

Things were totally fine until maybe 4 or 5 hours later when I tried to sleep. I was pretty tired so was ready to sleep but was having trouble and I thought it was my usual anxiety keeping me up, making it so I couldn’t clear my head. But nothing worked.

I felt shaky, my heart felt like it was beating so hard (though my heart rate was close to normal), my chest felt tight, it almost felt like the beginning of a panic attack. I got up and was barely able to eat some toast cuz I would get nauseous when I put the food to my lips. Nothing helped. I spent most of the night on the verge of tears trying to sleep and was finally able to catch some very fitful sleep from around 4:30am to 7am.

This has never happened to me before. I know there’s caffeine in it but I’ve never had this sort of experience even when I’ve had caffeinated drinks in the evening.

Is this a common experience?? I felt so scared last night and feel a bit better now but I’m still shaky and I can’t tell if it’s just cuz I’m sleep deprived now or what.

Excedrin Before Finding Out

Hello everyone. So, I just found out today that I am 5 weeks pregnant! However, yesterday I had a terrible migraine and took one Excedrin (acetaminophen/aspirin/caffeine) prior to knowing that I was pregnant. I have read that aspirin can be dangerous during pregnancy and am freaking out a little. I know I can't change it now but has anyone had any experience with this? Since I literally just found out I'm pregnant I don't have an OB that I can call and ask so just hoping for some of your knowledge on this. Thanks guys.

Edit: Thanks you so much everyone for sharing. This is my first pregnancy so I’m probably being a little paranoid but just don’t want to do anything wrong. I appreciate all of your input!

For whatever reason, excedrin works but 2 hours after taking it.

Last time I worked on my car with the excedrin in full gear I felt like superman. Bending and straining no problem! I was diagnosed a few years ago and haven't seen a doctor since, it was "borderline chiari" as they worded it. Less than 5 mm but it's still enough to just about ruin my life. I was wondering if there was another medication or even a diet that can mimic excedrin without damaging my stomach. After some of the horror surgery stories I've read, I'd rather try and tackle this some other way. Also don't have insurance at the moment but might be able to afford it soon, but then again there's covid. Do I really want to depend on a hospital right now?

Wow. Excedrin?

So I’ve been taking Tramadol for a week, which I’m not a fan of because it’s an (synthetic) opiate. My neurologist appointment is today and, like almost every morning for three weeks now, I woke up around 3-4am after only a few hours of sleep due to pain. So this morning, I decided to not take Tramadol, and instead take 500mg of Excedrin (an NSAID).

Wow.

I wish I would’ve been taking this instead of the Tramadol these past week. It’s almost reduced my leg pain down to 1/10, from 7-8/10 when I was woken up this morning.

Side note, wish me luck at my appointment today, I’ve been looking forward to this for months now. I’m so desperate for relief.

PSA for anyone who uses Excedrin: GSK is packaging the generic as name-brand Excedrin

My SO & I both use a lot of Excedrin, both for migraines & other headaches. (We typically buy the Extra Strength, it's the same thing as the Excedrin Migraine, we're just in the habit of buying the other because we can get it at Costco.) Since buying our most recent bottle, we both felt it wasn't working as well, which may or may not be related. But eventually we noticed that instead of the typical "E" printed on the pill, it reads "44334," which is the stamp for the generic version of the same thing.

We thought that was pretty weird, but didn't think about it a lot. Then I went to buy Tums (another thing I use a lot), and saw the cap had changed. OK, the label still said all the right stuff thought, name brand, etc. But when I went to take some, they were a totally different product. Looking closely, they still claimed to be the name brand product, but the inactive ingredients list is slightly different. Searching online for the ingredients in the new package, they returned generic/store brand "Tums." The ingredients listed on the company's website are still the old list. The cap shown on the website is still the old cap. The cap on the new bottle is the one on store-brand products. The website mentions some products are unavailable due to shortages. So I guess what's happening is they can't get certain ingredients right now so instead of just saying they can't make certain products, they're packaging different products as something they're not, and still charging the name-brand price.

And Excedrin and Tums are made by the same company, GSK. And now it makes sense that the most recent bottle of Excedrin has a slightly different shape, a slightly different cap. I found the inactive ingredient lists for the name brand & generic online, and most boxes in the store currently labeled "Excedrin" contain the generic's ingredients.

They're being honest insofar as they're actually listing the correct inactive ingredients for whatever's in the package, but you really have to scrutinize and be familiar with the usual ingredients to catch that. That's not much honestly when all the most obvious parts of the packaging point to the usual name-brand product.

I know for a lot of people the generic works just as well as the name-brand. (I would have assumed I was one of them.) But in that case, you might as well buy the labeled generic and spend less money since you're likely getting the same thing either way.

If the generic doesn't work a

Can I crush up an Excedrin tension headache pill and drink it with water?

The reason I ask is because I suck at taking pills. My throat is very narrow, and I've had the Heimlich performed on me multiple times throughout my life. The last time I took a Nyquil as a matter of fact. I'm kind of paranoid about taking any type of pill at this point, but I do get tension headaches. At this point I'm just not taking anything for them, but I'd like to know if I can crush up my Excedrin tension headache medicine and just drink it with water.

Thank you.

Excedrin Migraine

My beating heart 💓 lol. Fucking Excedrin Migraine man. I try not to take it because sometimes my migraines are daily for weeks at a time and it is not good for your liver/heart to be taken daily but this drug is perfectly made for my migraines. Yesterday my migraine (2nd day in a row, first day I did no medication) came back on while at work at my job as a special Ed preschool aide. I had 2 separate tantrums from my students in my day and my head is just throbbing as I breathe through it and try to calm this tiny screaming human down and chase after them. I’m off so I get some food and an energy drink to try and heal with no luck. I go to school at university where 1 of my classes is online and I have to watch through a screen ⚡️💻⚡️ I have my blue light glasses but I’m still watching the whole class from a squint. My days over I leave and go home to peace. I go into my meditation closet with no luck. I spend my entire night in a quiet room with my ice pack. Ordered food to the house and tried 1 episode of the office and felt the puke coming so had to turn off. I still didn’t want to take excedrin bc I didn’t want to be up all night from it. I was up till 2 anyway with the inside of my elbo wrapped around my face to squeeze my temples and block my eyes. I woke up and for the 3rd day in a row my migraine is still kicking. I called out of work and tried to sleep it off and I woke up at 11 and it’s s t i l l there. I took the excedrin and now I feel like cleaning my entire house and throwing a rave with loud music and flashing lights! Excedrin Migraine. My beating heart 🙄

Does anybody else pop excedrin like candy?

First of all I want to say that although I know migraines are very common, it almost feel sometimes like I'm dealing with this alone so it's kind of comforting in a weird way to get on subs like this.

Anyways, I had bad migraines for as long as I lived basically and excedrin has really been my life saver through out the years but the last year or so my migraines got really bad and frequent so I finally went to a neurologist who introduced me to the great world of triptans which are awesome and helpful too. I'm glad that I have stuff that work but I'm starting to get scared of my excedrin usage and the limited amount of triptans for a month. I guess we're kinda all in the same boat here? Some weeks I don't take as much but it's been a really good friend for many years. Is it just my fucking anxiety that's speaking? Dunno. Guess I just wanted to vent or something. Today I'm on 40 mg of eletriptan + 1000 mg of excedrin because my migraine just refused to go away. Hope you all doing ok
