A list of puns related to "Civil Disobedience"
My post is inspired by this twitter thread, which I will link to here: https://twitter.com/HasBezosDecided/status/1162767412464365570
To summarize, climate change, at 1.5-2 Β°C is likely to be much worse than anyone thinks, and while scientific studies constantly change based on new information the future seems bleaker than we assume. This means in the next few decades we will likely see crop failures, refugee crises, mass starvation and conflict, and the world's equatorial regions will become uninhabitable. The eventual extinction of humans and most other life forms is not only a possibility, it is likely under current climate models. In order to prevent this, drastic action is needed now. This means global carbon neutrality before 2030, massive investments into carbon-sequestration technology, no more cattle farming, rewilding projects across the world, degrowth in the most industrialized countries, and global mobilization which we haven't had since the Second World War. Some scientists say that geoengineering will be required before a 3Β°C rise in temperature has been locked-in. I know this sounds unreachable, and my predictions seem alarmist, but this is what would be needed to avoid a worst-case scenario, societal collapse and extinction, and it's something I'm afraid most people don't understand.
This is where I'd like to start a discussion. While it's important to volunteer, advocate, and vote in local and regional elections, I don't think this is enough. Politicians will not help us prevent a climate collapse, nor do they seem to care. I think we will need massive coordinated strikes, which wouldn't stop until the ambitious demands are met. By withholding their labour, enough workers around the world can make a difference. Remember that 2030 is a major tipping point, and even if it's not as bad as we think a major strike could still help us lessen the impact of climate change in the future. Doom is not a good response to a climate collapse, it prevents us from recognizing our collective power and fighting back. Many people online and in real life have told me "We can stop climate change, we just won't." I think it's time to finally ask ourselves why we won't. 71% of all emissions are made by just 100 companies. These companies have investors, they have funding from large banks, and many have thousands of low-paid workers, without whom they would likely fail. Policies of mass mobiliza

We need this being talked about and we deserve recognition, it's high-time (No pun intended) that the Cannabis consumers of EirΓ© are seen as ordinary citizens just like consumers of Alchohol. We can all phone in to radio stations around the country but it never really equates to much other than some smooth brain spouting 50 year old propoganda.
however people choosing to stand shoulder to shoulder in the belief of Legalization and regulation WOULD be noticed and it would most likely cause a domino effect.
What are your thoughts?
I know most of you have a serious hate for teachers, but we are not all doomers, we just get overshadowed by the vocal Karensβ¦ anyway, today I witnessed my juniors and seniors perform some serious civil disobedience in a lockdown and restriction crazy area. They were outside dancing in the courtyard, running and chanting, dancing, having a great time. The school was running a type of class celebration that was supposed to be socially distanced outside throughout the school day. They were yelled at and scolded each time. A few came to me at the end of the day upset that they were being yelled at, saying itβs been a over a year of this and how tired of it they are, as well as the teenage βwe deserve somethingβ. Most of them are even vaccinated (I know) because their colleges are requiring it. I told them civil disobedience isnβt easy, but if itβs a cause worth fighting for you have to be willing to risk something. I was so worried about them falling into a normalization of masks and looking at people in fear, but I am not as worried anymore. These kids were from all different backgrounds, politics, beliefs, etc. I know this because I know many of them. Just made me happy.
I just wanted to proclaim my constitutional rights.
These are not my constitutional privileges
Within them I have freedom of speech guaranteed to me by the country in which I live, the United States
This isn't even a a fire arms statement, I'm just talking about speech.
If I am in no way threatening myself or anyone else I should legally be allowed to believe and discuss pretty much anything I want without fear of incarceration
This would include.... personal opinions on religious figures, thoughts on stalkers including belief in multiple people stalking , absurd ideas about telepathy, telekinesis, gang stalking, aliens, direct energy weapons and all manner of bizarre and non falsifiable points.
I understand, psychiatry and psychiatrists that you have been trained to look at many of these topics of discussion as "red flags". I am familiar with the DSM and how you have been taught to see these specific topics of conversation as a symptom of a disease process rather than a personal and political opinion.
I am not asking you to agree with me
I am simply pointing out that I am within my constitutional rights to believe pretty much anything in that opinion pile.
I am simply pointing out that many people have been locked up without threatening them self or others and for having opinions of lesser topics than what I've listed above.
I am simply pointing out it is not illegal to disagree with you.
I am also pointing out that if a difference of opinion becomes illegal that maybe that in itself is a problem.
Ravish in one of his latest show said to display poster of dead people in front of your house. I really liked the concept. I feel like with posters not everyone is going to do this. I am thinking we can put some kind of marking that display the covid death count in their house. It should be non religious and non political symbol of any kind. Otherwise it would become political.
Other than symbol we need to come up with a message that can be posted on social media and whatsapp. Message should not mention any political parties or mismanagement. Basically anything that can be counted as politics.
This way right wing will have fewer grounds to attack and we might see some sort of movement.
If people can bang thalis I think they can do a simple thing for their loved ones.
I think if we able to achieve this of will be able to send the msg to the system (Modi) that people of india are watching everything and we will not forget.
Any suggestions. Let's pull it guys. I think we can do it.
Just curious if there are any specific quantitative patterns that can estimate a sort of βcivil unrestβ and general frustration and anger over those in power? Doesnβt just have to be unemployment.
An in-depth interview with the great legal mind, Lord Jonathan Sumption on Unherd.
He covers a great deal of ground - I will post a time-stamped summary to follow.
0:00 - 0:45 Introduction
0:45 - 2:20 What did you find unacceptable about Lockdown orders?
The shift away from Liberal views being default. Liberty is not absolute, however Covid-19 is not sufficiently extreme to override it.
2:20 - 6:15 Discussing the relative increase in risk that Covid-19 has presented, compared to everyday life.
"We have to make a value judgment on the amount of risk we are prepared to accept". Zero risk from Covid-19 means putting no value into the harms caused by lockdowns. "We have to accept that there is more to life than the avoidance of death"
6:15 - 7:40 The UK Government 2020 pandemic response compared to previously laid plans. "The planning assumed that the great object of public policy was that life should be as normal as possible"
Influences from China + Italy changed the SAGE strategy.
7:40 - 10:27 The problem of adopting Chinese value of "human beings are tools of collective national policy" + why setting this convention makes it very hard to reverse. The precedent to shut down society has now been set.
10:28 - 11:25 "The Civil Contingencies Act allows the Government to do anything an Act of Parliament can do i.e. anything at all". "The only thing that protects us from a despotic use of those powers is a convention that we have decided to discard"
11:25 - 14:13 - Risk vs freedom - why have other establishment voices not formed the same conclusions?
Liberalism rejected Hobbsian model of the absolute power of the state, but we have reverted to it during this crisis.
14:14 - 16:39 The Government's role in exaggerating public fears + why this has made people reluctant to speak out against lockdowns. Solidarity vs intolerant conformism.
How public fear can be the principle threat to Liberal Democracy.
16:40 - 21:35 Why Lord Sumption was willing to speak out.
Why the young are particularly the victims of lockdowns. "A major generational injustice" + the dangers of young people becoming disenchanted with Democracy.
People may not blame lockdowns now, but historians will view them as a massive mistake.
21:36 - 22:47 Public opinion induced by fear is more fickle than most + attempting to understand public polling statistics.
22:48 - 26:19 *Is this a symptom of
