A list of puns related to "Chikungunya"
As the title says, my father (52 years old) contracted Chikungunya in 2013, leaving him bed ridden for weeks with severe joint pain. Once recovered, the joint pain would return in a mild form over the next few years, usually once a year for about a week. In 2015, he then contracted the Zika virus, which only lasted for about two weeks with mild symptoms.
Over the course of 2021, he has been experiencing persistent fatigue and mild, unexplainable weight loss that encouraged him to visit his specialist. He has taken his yearly prostate exam, as well as receiving a colonoscopy and endoscopy that all returned normal results. His specialist decided to analyze blood samples.
Upon examination of his blood samples, his ferritin count was 1,930ng/mL. He was then encouraged to take a CT scan, of which the preliminary reports indicate that there is a "high suspicion for the presence of Lymphoma or other lymphatic disorders".
Obviously the first possibility was of great concern to us, we have forwarded the results to another specialist who will give us a referral some time in the future. For now, I would like to understand if there was any significant risk of Lymphoma associated with him contracting the two viruses many years ago. He currently suffers from no other medical conditions/disorders.
I'm in first year pre-med and I haven't been able to find a significant link between highly elevated ferritin levels and Hodgkin's/non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, am I wrong?
He also hasn't exhibited any other of the common Lymphoma related symptoms other than weight loss and general fatigue, which he describes as only becoming extremely noticeable in the last month.
Any second opinions? I'm hoping its the least severe of all possibilities, but I also want prepare myself for what might come.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
