A list of puns related to "Box Kite"
We'll be heading to the beach soon and I want to gift my wife a kite...I came across several spinning kites one of which is a box kite...in addition last week end a family were flying several large kites one of which had a spinner attached lower down the line which I'd also like to add...but the ones I've found say they need a 7 to 9' delta or parafoil to fly...I wasn't wanting something that large...so my question is can I put a spinner on the box?
I'm having trouble with a boxkite I bought at walmart. Even in very good wind when I can fly my dollar store diamond kites and my stunt kite with ease, the box kite flies for a few seconds and then suicides itself. I can't find the exact one online but it looks similar to this one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rainbows-Rectangle-Box-Kite-for-Kids-and-Adults-Outdoor-Games/38379925
The linked one only has one bridle connection, mine has two, for more or less wind. Unfortunately it nose dives on both settings. It also has a clip connector and I've tried tying the line directly to the bridle without success.
Any tips on how to keep this thing in the air?
(English is not my first language and I'm on mobile, sorry for any issues)
In the hunt for the largest and most light pull box kite!
So, I began the hobby two years ago by making a box kite out of the "spine" taken from coconut tree leaves, since I and my father built small kites when I was little out of these "sticks". It flew well at first but a few minutes into the air I noticed the kite was too bendy and started ripping the paper I used as lifting surfaces. That kite went to the trash later that day.
The next one I built was out of 30cm bamboo sticks tightly glued together. Just like the first kite, it had four structural "X" to hold the sides. It was 92cm high and 36cm in diagonal. With a few adjustments in the angle of attack, it had a fairly light pull. It's weight was around 120g. Bridle line was a 80m cotton yarn no. 10. It flew very well, until the day I used a 450 meter line and it snapped.
Version 3 is still with me. This one was just like V2, but I used it as testing kite. I started testing with sails, side wings and tails. The tail in the back end greatly reduced the pull on the bridle line, so I added a fin on the bottom of the kite. It felt very stable and light to pull, but it flew a bit lower than before. So I added side wings to make it bigger, heavier, and most importantly, fly higher. It still can be flown with the no. 10 cotton yarn. In fact, I don't even know how many lbs this line is.

Of course I understand that if the kite has a light pull on the bridle line it will fly lower, but my objective is to perfect the weight to drag to bridle angle ratio in order to get it up without too much pull
V4 will have a 140 centimeter high box and is still on paper. I still plan on making it out of bamboo sticks, just more reinforced. Will probably use some clothing this time instead of paper, although I'm having less trouble recently, since I don't crash that often anymore while messing around with them on the air . I will post here when it's done, it will probably be by the end of the year, since quarantine sucks.
Anyone has any idea what else can I add to the kite while I still have V3 with me?
Hello! I've never made a kite, but it looks fun! I was thinking about using plastic bags and possibly metal wire (like metal hangers) to make a box kite. However I was hoping to make it akin to a long dragon, with it being able to move back and forth.
Basically- would the solid box segments still be able to fly if they were attached together by some kind of string? All of my searches only show solidly put together shapes.
Made a quick diagram for some clarity: https://giphy.com/gifs/L1W8oZAtCi3fwTTHAN
Any help appreciated :)
So the newly named Gunpowder βKiteβ has a sale value to Therapist for 3000 rubles. But if you save three and trade to Mechanic you get an ammo box worth about 121914 rubles. Are these cheap common gunpowders supposed to not be used for this trade or is there value missing a zero? Just wondering.

Wondering what the thoughts are on this? Nothing too fancy, and if it's somehow too sloppy to get aloft I'll tear it down and re-do it a little bit more proper. Just thought it'd be fun if something relatively quick and crude actually works for this particular style of kite. (Almost the opposite of what many do with their builds.)
Also super-cheap. Was like only $6 for the string and dowels as everything else needed was already at home. Using poly "masonry line" (Not for load bearing use! lol - strong enough to cut into my hands though - ought to work for this) from a hardware store and (4x) 5/16" x 48" dowels that are guesstimation cut while being evened up to provide both the spars and cross-bracing. Plastic bags are just the ol' grocery store kind which are stolen from the cat's litter-box cleaning stash.
Took about an hour and a half, but that's because I thought it'd be neat to keep it together mostly with some decent lashing and knotwork rather than tape or heat glue. Otherwise I'd think it'd be somewhat less time and cutting of the plastic (doesn't want to lay flat) being the only finicky aspect.
I think I'll go down by the beach sometime and give it a shot. If anything, I might have to trim down the skinning (sails?) on it a bit, since some pics of that style show them being somewhat narrower.
Secondary question how do you prepare for the eventuality of attacks that bypass the kill box
