A list of puns related to "Birthright"
What are some of the unspoken nuances i should be aware of? I am extremely excited for this opportunity. Taking my sister to help rekindle our Jewish heritage.
I have been recently replaying Fates and I still really like the game, but I noticed the character writing feels a little clunky at the end of both Birthright and Conquest.
At the end of Conquest Hinoka and Sakura attend Xander's coronation and other than a few lines that Corrin should stay away from Hoshido for a while and that she took for granted how Ryoma was expected to be king, she doesn't seem all that upset about how the war changed Hoshido. She tells Corrin that they are welcomed to visit anytime (after things cool down). I kinda feel she should at least be a little more upset with Corrin. I am not asking that she be vowing revenge and cursing her, but after everything Garon did to Hoshido (and what Sakura had to witness) it feels odd.
I haven't completed my replay of Birthright yet so some of the details are still fuzzy to me, but I recall Leo and Camilla being far too optimistic too. I know Nohr fares better at the end of Birthright than Hoshido does at the end of Conquest, but I don't remember if Leo or Camilla mention that they miss Xander and Elise at all. Shouldn't the surviving siblings be at least a little upset given the circumstances?
I almost feel like having the siblings you don't side with forgiving Corrin so easily at the end does not gel well with the idea of picking sides. If you want to be happy with both of your families that's what Revelations is for. I see nothing wrong with certain characters telling Corrin they wish them well but they don't wish to have a close relationship with them.
Edit: I never said that the surviving siblings had to hate Corrin, I just noticed that they don't feel all that sad about the siblings who died and come around and forgive Corrin so easily it feels a little forced and unearned and that I found it thematically unfitting.
Jus Soli, commonly referred to asย birthright citizenship, is theย right of anyone born in the territory of a state toย nationality orย citizenship.
Jus soli is the predominant rule in the Americas; explanations for this local phenomenon include: the establishment of lenient laws by past European colonial powers to entice immigrants from the Old World and displace native populations in the New World, along with the emergence of successful Latin American independence movements that widened the definition and granting of citizenship, as a prerequisite to the abolishment of slavery since the 19th century.

Item Discussion
Aw, heck, why not? I've kept y'all waiting long enough on Repentance's most interesting item, eh? The ol' 34-in-1 classic, except not in a knockoff Dead Sea Scrolls, spin to win way. This baddie has a unique effect for every character in the game, ranging from run-winning to...guess Eden gets a free item? Because this bastard is such a monstrosity, we're going to be splitting Birthright up into two discussions, each of which will stay up for at least 2 days (it's exam season, it'll be good for my soul).
And yes, that lengthy post title is correct: this is our discussion of Birthright's effects for the Non-Tainted Characters; the Tainted bastards will get their due in real time. If you have opinions on Birthright itself, feel free to drop 'em...otherwise, save your thoughts on the many very cool effects for Tainted Characters until Part 2. Cool? Cool! It's Item Discussion #135, and we're taking on the first half of Birthright, baby ๐ถ

This is the second part of my analysis of Fates' writing. If you're interested in reading why I'm doing this or what arguments I've made up until this point, please click on this link to read the first part.
In the prologue, my main criticisms centered around a large number of conveniences, questions that should have been asked by the characters yet weren't, a roster too large to be introduced within such a short of a period of time, and even a potential plot hole in the form of Corrin's sword and how it's used. However, by far the most glaring issue was the frenzied pacing; way, way too much happened in just a few number of chapters and the characters, especially Corrin as well as the player, had no time to process what was going on.
I'd first like to address some criticism to how I've structured this analysis series. Some people think my arguments get lost by retelling what happens in the story, but I'm not sure I agree. Fates has been out in Japan for over six years and more than five years in the West; a lot of people have forgotten the details of the plot, even as the story gets discussed frequently. By explaining what happens, I mean to provide context to my criticism and show that the problems plaguing Fates aren't simply a few bad ideas done poorly; it manifests in many different ways near constantly. It's for that reason I also sometimes mention smaller issues which could otherwise be considered nitpicks; it shows a lack of care and attention dedicated to having the plot make sense.
Even so, I will say that there might be less focus on describing all the plot events in Birthright in the same way I did the prologue. Not only because there are a lot more chapters, but also because Birthright suffers from having a lot of maps which are effectively filler.
Birthright is often considered the "least bad" route of Fates in terms of its writing. It's often called "okay" or "a standard Fire Emblem story", but I don't think that's true. Yes, on the surface, once Birthright begins it has a mostly typical Fire Emblem structure, but I believe such a statement ignores the nuances which cause Birthright's story to be as problematic as it is, even if it looks better structured compared to the other two routes. In this post I hope I'll be able to show you what I mean.
With that said, let's begin.
Birthright
The story starts with Corrin c

Conquest and Revelation is here.
I already did a Masterpost for this on my Tumblr, so go there if you don't wanna scroll here. I'll be using he/him for Corrin in this.
Hereโs a link to a post I made where I list my sources for this stuff.
Chapter 1
-During the back and forth of Leo saying swordplay isnโt the only way to get strong, he concedes when Xander praises his magic, sayingย โbecause you acknowledged me, Big Brotherโ. This early example of Leoโs insecurity isnโt in localization, though the Pointy Metal Sticks line is kind of funny Iโll admit.
-I know that everyone already makes fun of theย โthe adult that you technically areโ line, but the line really does suck. The original just saysย โgeez, always such a bratโ, which imo is much better than trying to justify it in weird meta 4th wall stuff.
Chapter 3
-JP version has Iago mention that the mission is to see whether Corrin is qualified to help govern the Kingdom. Localization just says itโs to see whether he/she is โworthyโ, and not explaining what he/she would be worthy of.
-Xander saying he arrested Hans himself is not in the JP versionโฆ which, letโs be honest: arresting Hans yet having Peri as his personal retainer does nothing but Xander look like a mess of a character, but thatโs the localizationโs trademark I guess. Just let it be known that Xanderโs standards arenโt as wonky in the JP version, and this is an example of that.
-Lilith explicitly mentions her father, mother and friends having passed away when going to the Astral Plane/My Castle for the first time, instead of just a vagueย โthereโs no one left hereโ.
Chapter 4
-Iโve known this for a while already, but Garon luring Sumeragi to Cheve under false pretenses is a localization creation. The JP version has Sumeragi go to establish friendly relations with Chevalier (Cheve), not Nohr. Garonโs troops ambush him instead of catching him in a trap. The JP version of events makes a hell of a lot more sense in many ways. 1) Why would Sumeragi trust the leader of the kingdom that Hoshido has been warring with forever to not be a dick, and 2) going off of that line of thinkin

Hello friends! I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences and opinions on Birthright? I only have a few friends who've gone, but I'm thinking about going this summer. I'm 26 right now, so I'm at the upper end of the age limit for Birthright. Even with the pandemic still going on, I think it would be nice to take advantage of this chance to visit Israel. I'm specifically thinking about one of the trips that goes to Tel Aviv Pride if anyone has experience with that!

Hi,
I'm trying to find the corresponding unit for each Hoshidan character (Charlotte for Hana rather than a mercenary because fast glass cannon, Beruka for Subaki because bulky slow flier with mediocre strength...). Well, one thing is certain, it's that it's hard to find corresponding units for each Hoshidan. Why? Because every royal sibling other than Elise is a prepromote, while Hoshidans are far from this and their base stats don't allow them to be promoted at 10 without butchering their long-term usability (Hinoka needs a bit more str in particular, Takumi wants to gain at least 2 speed procs before promoting in order to salvage his long-term speed as he's mostly a PP unit and spd is his most important stat as a yumi user).
The only unit inferior to their counterpart is Xander and even then, the only way to say he's a counterpart is because of their pref weapon, because stats-wise Ryoma and Xander have little to do with each other.
Although Hoshidans are supposed to be fast due to their classes, the fast Hoshidans are: Kaze, Hana, Hinoka, Setsuna, Kagero, Reina and Ryoma. While Kaze, Setsuna, Kagero, Reina and Ryoma have ranged attacks, Hana and Hinoka are melee-locked (except if Hinoka goes Kinshi, the only way for her to be a good flying combat unit againt anything else than outlaws/mages that lack any kind of physical bulk, but Hana has to reclass to get any kind of ranged weapon that can double attack), which makes their laughable bulk in their base classlines very problematic for them to keep going from midgame, when promoted enemies hit hard and have too much bulk for Hinoka to ORKO them without effective weapons or forged yumi. The other Hoshidans have at best middling speed (Rinkah, Subaki, Hinata, Oboro, Saizo, Takumi, Hayato and Scarlet) if not slow (Orochi).
On the other hand, Nohrians mostly have middling to low speed, but their bulk is mostly higher than their Hoshidan equivalents even for the glass canons (DK Nyx is an efficient way to beat earlygame, Orochi and Hayato are far from their basara promotion and basara gives bad pair up stats after they fall off if promoted early, Charlotte is much more able to survive than Hana, can instant promote to hero to gain def, skl and spd and it gives good pair-up bonuses while berserker gives top tier pair-up, HP and offensive promo bonuses).
The Nohrians tanks can actually tank while Hoshidan tanks except Rinkah are at best tavern brawlers who never had the idea to use a damn armor piece agai

I completely disagree with this and think birthright citizenship is an excellent idea. The main argument I hear is that if some illegal immigrant gives birth on American soil, the child is not really American. I disagree with this, because to me, citizenship is not really predicated on DNA. Some kid born to an illegal immigrant or to a legal immigrant that forgot to sign some form or another who grew up in American society going to American schools consuming American media in the US is American and should be treated as such in my opinion.
It also jives with the idea of America being a nation of immigrants and opportunity, deporting someone because their parents forgot to sign an obscure form 20+ years ago doesn't really fit with our national principles and is pretty messed up. People also get stuck on anchor babies, I really don't have a problem with them. I say the more the merrier and one more person getting to experience the American dream is a positive in my book. The final argument is that most other countries don't have birthright citizenship, I don't care. The other countries are backwards and wrong on this front in my opinion.
Anyway, please CMV!

Hey, I recently looked into Birthright and I would love to do it but I never been overseas, and am not the most social person i know lol. So Iโm curious about anyones experiences who have done it (any of the trips that they offer classic, themed etcโฆ) and more specific questions like, is there an upfront cost to it? How does transportation and housing work? How much Hebrew should I know going into it?
I love being Jewish and itโs been a very big part of my life, and now I feel like in the recent years itโs only grown stronger and this would be a great opportunity to really learn about it :)
A bit long, so don't mean to bore you :)
Immediately reminded me of circumcision. It was an AP Language synthesis discussion, and this lesbian couple (if not mistaken, I believe both were already deaf) impregnated through a donor with a deaf history voluntarily to increase the chance of having a child be born without hearing.
Now it would make sense why the child is deaf. However, choosing to increase the odds of a "disability" really isn't okay for the child in my opinion. I understand motherly love, but what about how the child feels.
Their justification point regarded to making sure the child was born deaf stands within the realm of what one considers deafness. Some say it's a culture, other's say it's a disability. The issue standing was the immediate consultation stated by the couple that "deafness is a culture."
The predisposition of stating that "deafness is a culture" unfortunately lies short on its terms as only the child can create that choice as to whether or not it's a culture or a disability (it's a perceptive idea, unique to each deaf individual). If the child's mindset expressed in the future (when they actually obtain the mental capacity to know what they wanted) states that deafness is a disability (our mutilation), then it's too late for fixing the mistakes.
I mean just imagine being born, and your mother(s) voluntarily attempt to make you deaf. I can't really compare the points of being circumcised and being deaf as they're two totally different things, but the concept of consent and justification of allowing this to occur just seems beyond me.
TL;DR: Lesbian deaf couple voluntarily increase chances to give birth to deaf child--questioning ethics regarding birthright consent and justifiability.
Hi,
I'm going on Birthright this summer, can I go to Egypt or Europe after Birthright, and how do I go about this? I.e. do I have to go directly home (U.S.) or can I also go elsewhere?
I recently found out that Israel does a free birthright trip to young adult Jews in the US. My paternal grandmother is Jewish, but my dad is Christian (still technically an ethnic Jew) Would that make me eligible, or did my dad have to be a practicing Jew when I was born for him to count as a Jewish parent?

Hey!
Alright I need some massive help here.
I'm kinda new to DnD. Played it some over the years but honestly most of what I know is from the old Baldur's Gate games. Feats can confuse me. What stacks, what does not stack and so on.
I mostly play other RPGs but we are now starting a Birthright campaign. But with DnD 3,5 - not 3.
I've been looking through the books and realise that I'm a bit in over my head. All the others in the group really know what they are doing in DnD but I do not.
As I've come to understand the ruleset, its meant for low-middle level characters. So I think we will be in the level span between 1-12. So late bloomers aren't great for it?
What I'm looking for - is to make a character that is easy to play for a DnD beginner. Ive played pen and paper RPGs once every week for ten years, so it doesnt need to be super-easy. But easy enough for me to learn what I need in a week, while working and taking care of a baby. so... maybe an hour a day to study up.
Haven't played a fighter in close to 15 years. So I kinda want to go for that. I'm currently looking at Humans and any fighter class/style.
Currently I'm looking in the D&D 3.5 Complete Warrior book.
So back to what i'm looking for, and what I need help with;
I want a class with a build that makes the character as strong as possible, while still being fairly easy to understand/master. Preferably a fighter styled class. Can be any weapons, ranged or melee. Does not need to be a pure class.
Normally I don't care that much about the strength of the character, but the DM has insinuated that this campaign could require some well thought out and strong PCs. Which he normally does not do.
I could use a hand in what stat-lines I need to aim for. What skills and feats and such I should go for and in what order.
I'd like it to peak around level 10-12 but good from basically the start. Since I think we will spend a long time between levels 1-8. Which is great, gives me time to learn.
I know that this is very broad. Hopefully this is a help for you guys, not a hindrance.
Greatly appreciate any and all help here. I know I'm asking for a lot. I do have a lot of the books if you need me to look somewhere.
Sincerely.
Hi,
Hana is a myrmidon in a game where it's a so-so class. Her growths are bases make her a bad glass cannon. Why bad? Because a myrmidon should always double most enemies at base, which Hana fails to do in hard mode Birthright. Being slower than Subaki on PP is a shame especially when that means she doesn't double a single enemy on the map that isn't a knight.
To growths: Hana's growths are oriented towards str, skl, spd and res. She needs spd and str to proc on her first level up to start doubling any relevant enemy in her join map and hope to be able to ORKO anything (I'm not even sure she ORKOs with spd + str).
"But...but...Hana has high growths and is low level so she gains levels fast and gets out of her bases and starts being amazing!"
-Yeah, no. Why? Because in hard mode she's close to being ORKOd by an enemy attack stance and her avoid in EP is laughable just like her base offense. Enemy str grows faster than her physical bulk, you see where I'm going.
"But swordmaster gives her +10 crit/avoid so she can kill and dodge!"
-EP avoid is still low and in order to dodge she'll need a 3 Mt sunrise katana which is worse than a bronze katana and is hard to obtain clones of for forges. So even after the trouble of raising her to that point she's still made of paper, she still doesn't avoid well without butchering her only redeeming quality (offense) and she's still inferior to her competition (as a sword unit, Ryoma just with Raijinto in his inventory, not even using it, not even using a backpack so negating his personal skill, and Hinata who's fast enough for what he has to do and much bulkier than Hana forever).
-If you want a functional berserker-like swordmaster, just master seal Kagero to master ninja, now she has swords, a much more tolerable bulk and can do everything Hana can do while being better (and she still has shuriken as a replacement to wind swords). Kagero can also marry Kaze, Saizo or Ryoma for swordmaster if you're dead set on the class. Hana is beaten at her job by other units that don't die instantly to enemy attack stances.
So...what's the point of making Hana? Birthright is nearly as EP-centered as Radiant Dawn (the more you advance the more it is), killed dodgetanking and killed HP values (for playable units, of course enemies have kept decent HP values on top of high def). Any unit that has bulk is at least decent just by not dying instantly, any unit that has usable bulk and offense is better than any unit that lacks ei

Still breathing, glaring at him with a singular eye as the other socket is a void of dark crimson. "And so you have experienced your birthright, human." The Inquai strode up, poking the human's chest, causing them to cough. "The weak have no rights. They can not even choose how they are to die." Slowly leaning forward, Krill chitters out a laugh. "And those born outside the Maker's light are weak." Taking the butt of his rifle and striking the human's head, meeting resistance as they keep their head up, staring into Krill's eyes with that singular piercing blue eye.
A wheezing growl escaped the human, who by all rights should be dead. All their limbs were missing in some fashion, the ends burned by plasma, armor melted and fused with the flesh under it. Yet they remained alive, conscious even. "You're...right." Wheezing and coughing. "The weak have no birthrights." Gasping and huffing. Krill let them speak, perhaps they have seen the error of their ways? "It is the duty of the strong...to...protect the weak. And we...are our mother's...strength. That is...our...birthright." A coughing chuckle bubbles out of the human, along with blood from their mouth. "When you see your makers...tell them...you died wasting time..." Their face twisted with a smile as Krill noticed that it was no longer night. All the fires around him were crackling still but it was far too bright.

Hayato starts as a Level 1 Diviner with terrible bases, both defensively (16 HP, 4 Def, 5 Res) and offensively (1 Str, 4 Mag, 8 Spd), but he greatly benefits the most from using the first Heart Seal, bringing him up to (19 HP, 10 Def, 3 Res) defenses and (7 Str, 1 Mag, 6 Spd) offenses.
Sidenote: I donโt like using the first heart seal on the first servant in Birthright since I generally like to get Azama and Sakura out of their staff classes and into Mechanist and Wyvern. Leaving the servant around for staff spam requires significantly less investment than keeping them relevant in combat roles. Birthright Lunaticโs early game isnโt too difficult without them and Iโd rather funnel my EXP into better long-term units. In playthroughs when youโre raising Hayato in particular, having a Felicia that stays in the maid class will also be helpful for him.
Saving the Mozu paralogue for after his recruitment will allow him to get up to level 6 in place of Mozu, whose niche in Conquest as a gateway to the Archer and Kinshi Knight classes isnโt really relevant in Birthright. Hayatoโs growths as an Oni Savage are incredible, with 70% HP, 50% Str, 50% Mag, 55% Spd, 60% Def, 20% Res. By the time he leaves this chapter, his relevant average stats will be 22.5 HP, 9.5 Str, 8.75 Spd, 14.2 Def, 4.4 Res, making him a solid physical tank in a game known for its extremely squishy units.
For reference,

We last left off having met up with Ryoma and the Cheve resistance which fights against Nohr. Apparently, Ryoma headed for Cheve as soon a a scout informed him that there was a "new civil strife" there. Rather than try to regroup with his siblings or the Hoshidan army to defend his homeland, he leaves, apparently by himself, only sending one person back with a message of his general whereabouts. We don't have a concrete understanding of what his long game was or how he expected his siblings to randomly stumble upon him in Cheve when they're an underground resistance force.
Not long after meeting up with Ryoma, the Nohrian army attacks a secret hideout, leading the group to believe they still have a traitor in their ranks even though Zola died. Ryoma takes a secret passage that leads "right to Nohr's doorsteps", saying running from the enemy won't end the war while Corrin chimes in that moving forward quickly with a small force might actually work.
