As I wrote in the title, I'm in the process of writing a slow burn AU story that I would rather keep private as far as the plot goes. I have a good idea of what's going to happen, and I have sketched out a few of the scenes. I am finishing the first proper chapter and I would like a beta reader to proofread and judge the character development, narrative rhythm/flow, story setting and their general opinion. I don't know what the length of the fic would be, but I assume it will be more than 40k words as the planning goes so far.

I'm a guy and I'm pretty new to romance, so please be gentle :)

Here are some books I enjoyed that are either romance or have a romantic subplot:

• The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger - Clare & Henry
• Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb - Fitz & Molly, Kettricken & Verity
• Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - Elizabeth & Darcy (watched several versions, haven't read yet)

Each of those features an independent heroine and semi-beta hero (well, Fitz is a little pushy at times). There isn't really "love at first sight," but maybe "interest" at first sight, but they can continue on with life just fine without the other, but something draws them together and they're better for it (except maybe Fitz and Molly, but that's more a fate thing).

I don't typically read "romance," but last month I decided to give it a solid shot, so I tried A Promise of Fire, which wasn't quite what I was looking for. I enjoyed it, but I had to force myself to continue for a few reasons:

• hero (Beta Sinta/Griffin) was super annoying to me
• I didn't understand why the heroine fell for the hero instead of one of his crew (she and Flynn had a good thing going)
• weird sexual tension for someone she claims to hate

Requirements

• independent heroine - I don't need a badass, I just want someone who can take care of herself (e.g. Kate in Kate & Leopold)
• beta hero - he should be independent and emotionally attentive
• slow burn - I really liked this about Pride and Prejudice, and I would also love a bit of long-distance relationship or similar as their relationship develops

Preferences

• very little steam - I'm okay with sex scenes, but I don't want it to be the focus; if possible, avoid them entirely, I'm looking for emotional connection, not physical
• fantasy setting - I'd rather have no fantasy than bad fantasy, but I'd really like a compelling, unique fantasy world (e.g. I didn't like the Greek Mythology setting of A Promise of Fire, but it was well reviewed, so I took the risk)
• realistic plot - I don't want the couple to "save the world," but maybe they can save their world (e.g. the local bookstore, a dying family member/close friend, etc)
• if it's a series (which is fine), they must get together in the first book
• some kind of intolerance that could tear them apart or bind them together against the world; they overcome their prejudices and come together
• heterosexual or lesbian - MM just isn't my thing, especially i

Noticed it now, I always had lawnchair with different icons but when I installed beta 2 weeks ago, I changed back to stock Pixel launcher.

Now when I scrolled down and had a great area in the top of the screen, I noticed circles and text from my apps... I ALWAYS keep my brightness to the minimum to prevent burn-in.

I noticed that some times the screen won't go to sleep or many take longer now with beta 3....

So sad... My beloved Pixel 4 is now "damage" because of a beta build...

Really, all these armor values, overmatch numbers, which of the hundreds of ships has a citadel above/below the waterline, which ship has what torpedo range, etc just make these games feel like you either memorize a lexicon and win, or not, and lose.

So use this time to get other stuff you want to get done now, classic WoW can take quite a toll on your life so it's good to get as much of your shit in order as possible.

"Crunch time" has been a big topic in the industry lately, as well as the negative effects that it has on developers lives. There have been a lot of really great sleuths doing their diligence to track down all the little bugs and inconsistencies in the classic beta, because we're all hoping for the most accurate and playable classic experience as possible. But considering the relatively short amount of time from now until release, I worry about the WoW classic team having to scramble to fix them all within that narrow timeframe.

Obviously I hope the biggest problems get solved (layering, game breaking stuff), but I'm confident that a lot of us here wouldn't want the WoW classic devs trading their health and wellbeing to address the small stuff that can come in a post-release patch.

I can't speak to the internal development practices at Blizzard, but considering that they suffered a big round of layoffs a little while back, and apparently some dips in moral, I imagine the pressure to perform is pretty high right now. But as a community I think we can send the message that we value our hobby and also the people that create it.

In World of Warcraft news, there has been some more drama over The Burning Crusade Classic re-launch in the last few weeks regarding a potential purchasable in game mount and changes to the in game leatherworking profession. I apologise for the rather tedious and long read but its necessary to properly set the scene for those unfimiliar with the game.

Background:

World of Warcraft is launching the re-creation of the Orignal The Burning Crusade expansion due to be released for players this year. It was announced this year at Blizzcon 2021. Such things however are not without controversy...

Part One: Hop, Skip and a Boost

To give a bit of background, there is already controversy over a one per player account purchasable (price still has not been confirmed as far as I know) level boost to level 58 available with the launch. This was not part of the original game and was announced to surprise at Blizzcon 2021. There were also other changes announced to TBC but they are minor and are mostly accepted by playerbase. We will be focussing on the level boost in this section as this is the change that first started the fan fury.

Edit: Sorry forgot to put in that in TBC two new races are added and will not be able to be used with the level boost. You have to level them the old fashioned way, available from the prepatch to TBC. Blood Elf for the Horde faction and Dranei for the Alliance faction. I was sitting here thinking, looking at my phone. I remembered that Android Q changed the status bar icons on the top. I go into my burn in checker app (OLED Tools, I highly recommend it) and notice that my burn in is specifically coming from the Android beta as all of the icons that are burned into my screen are the new ones: WiFi symbol, time, and the little data thingy. I also have a little white line on the bottom of my display too which is obviously also from the beta. If you have the time I'd like to know if anybody else has the same thing

i recently bought a neutrogena "deep clean" facial cleanser and used it about 5 times before realizing it contains BHA exfoliate because it's not printed on the front of the bottle so i completely missed it. i used it on my eyes as well as the rest of my face and neck and now experiencing these symptoms:

-excessive dryness (my skin type is oily)

-irritation & burning

-skin feels tight

-rash & blistering around mouth & chin

-itching

-swollen puffy eyes

-cloudy vision (not blurry)

-slight peeling

what exactly is happening? should i be concerned?? will it heal on it's own without medical attention?

i immediately switched my cleanser to a different one from neutrogena. it's there "ultra gentle" foaming wash. i'm also using alcohol free witch hazel, jojoba oil to moisturize and a thin layer of vaseline for the excessive dryness
