A list of puns related to "Bandleader"
Itβs a two-person band, a woman and a man. I looked into their history and apparently the male half of the duo met the female half when she was 15 and he was 25β¦ I bet you can guess where this is going.
She revealed her story back in 2017 but I didnβt know about it until now. Iβm trying to listen to her solo stuff as much as I can to make up for giving streaming money to her abuser.
I wish I could like stuff without shitty people ruining it. More importantly, I wish talented women (and men, for that matter) could make careers for themselves without having their spirits broken and being exploited by abusive pieces of shit. Some people are actually seeing consequences nowβthe dude in the band I liked has pretty much ruined his career, thank goodnessβbut itβs too little too late.
Long story short, every time I have a gig with a horn player he or she shows up 5 minutes before set time, gives me no time to ring out their wedge, and then proceed to hold their horn with a clip-on mic at the bell end directly in front of their monitor when not playing (trumpets/trombones especially). Then I have to hear it from bandleaders about feedback when Iβve been asking him to have his players there on time for a month. When I ask the players themselves at set break they all just seem to shrug and say itβs my problem, and unfortunately theyβre right. Bandleader is always confidence-inspiring in pre-show emails, but on the day of the show theyβre more worried about hanging their banner or bitching about the walk-in music than they are about getting everyone there and set up on stage for a sound check. Are groups like this just stepping stones and I should just take my experience and hope to work with pros in the future? Or should I be trying to get these dummies to see the light?
For context, I'm a high school student currently in my last year and I've been in my school's music program for all four years. We have a student-run band that I've been apart of for a while now, we play at concerts, competitions, etc... Since it's a student run band and I was the one who put it together, I became the primary bandleader, finding songs, sheet music, all of that.
It was fine for about three years. But then I got really sick of it. Not the music, I loved that. But doing all of the work for none of the recognition. The other members of my band would get so much appreciation from the music teacher involved. They would get awards and certificates and told how much the band needed them and how everything would fall apart if they didn't show up or were late.
It was stupid, I admit. They were just words and pieces of paper with the words "Band MVP" on them, but after three years I thought I would get some sort of thanks.
And so about two weeks before the summer vacation started (while I was in 11th grade) I emailed the teachers and texted my band that I didn't want to be bandleader anymore and just wanted to play the music like any other member.
They didn't notice until just now. I think they thought I wasn't being serious, that I would say I'm not doing any bandleader stuff but would do it anyways. We're now a month behind schedule and don't even have any songs to play. They're mad at me because I said that I would be bandleader three years ago and left them now.
My music teacher is also mad at me for leaving because he says that I shouldn't expect any recognition because the band is about the music and I left them without any direction. AITA here?
Iβm an average but pro level player and singer but a really good band leader. Ask me anything. Booking, promotion, finding players, band dynamics, making records, managing the band, firing and hiring, getting paid, building reputation, you name it, I have been there. I look forward to learning from you too.
I will answer every question but please be patient. Iβm working a lot this week and will monitor this thread and answer questions between obligations.
This is definitely one of those βIβm high and having random thoughtsβ moments but I started to think about it. Most bands start to become βuncoolβ or out of touch with their music as they get older, only ever playing greatest hits from there first few albums.
They lose their hair, donβt move around as much on stage, get pot bellies and shit. But josh homme (and all of them for that matter) seem to maintain the same energy, timeless leather jacket cigarette desert look and sense of humour/vibe as early in the career.
They seem fresh in a world of bands just getting back together solely to make money or make cliche pop songs that only dads listen to.
Maybe itβs cause their all big tall dudes who look like their in a motorcycle gang or some shit, or they still have their hair. Or they all looked old to begin with from doing drugs. But for a nearly 25 yr old band they seem timeless.
Here's a clip from my interview with Lenny where he talks about not missing an episode of SNL since joining the show.
Someone made an offhand reference to this gentlemen on Nextdoor but didn't specify much else, but I was wondering what the middle aged guy in the self-made white bandleader outfit on the corner of 117th & 76th is supposed to be raising money for?
Every time I see him I am in busy traffic and driving alone so I can't quite make out what he's supposed to be collecting money for. Does anyone on this sub know?
Just curious. Vancouver sure is gathering quite an assortment of interesting characters.
Or also, whatβs the best outside model to approach it as?
