A list of puns related to "Xanadu (Citizen Kane)"
Warning: long post incoming and spoilers for episode 9
Alright, so now that Iβve had time to unpack everything that happened in episode 9, hereβs how I think the Annabelle/Kate/Martin plot line will wrap next week. Iβm basing this on a few things: what weβve seen so far, what the episode 10 preview suggests, what connections Iβve drawn to real life and other media, and what makes sense as an earned, satisfying conclusion. They havenβt released the additional promo material for episode 10 yet, so things could change later today/tomorrow once Iβve seen those. Thus far, Iβve been able to predict the episodes pretty well once I have all the promos in front of me.
The big question thatβs been on everyoneβs mind is βwho is Annabelle?β and based on the fact that theyβre saving it for the finale, the reveal is going to be big. But we also know that episode 10 has some serious work to do in order to wrap all of the current plot lines in a satisfactory way. It begs the question βdo we have time for a third party to be introduced to Martin and Kateβs bubble?β Whether thatβs a new character or an existing character whoβs revealed to be Annabelle, I canβt imagine the circumstances that would allow for them to get the screen time needed for a satisfying payoff. Especially when we need to see so many other plot lines conclude. It also competes with Kateβs quote saying βthe other person didnβt make it out aliveβ. That implies that a third party was not present.
We know thereβs a shootout based on the news clip, and although itβs assumed police are involved, so far it hasnβt been explicitly stated that Martin was shot by them. We also know that trying to remember Annabelle sends Kate into a panic attack, which suggests Annabelleβs introduction was and still is traumatic to her.
Seemingly unrelated, the snow globe is introduced in this episode. So far, we know it links both Kate and Jeanette to Martinβs house on Christmas Eve. Whatβs really significant here is that Jeanette entered the house when she knew Martin was out. Knowing that Kate played with the snow globe while leaving the voicemail is huge - it tells Jeanette that Kate was freely walking around the house with telephone access while Martin was out. It removes her culpability completely. She did not see Kate, Iβm fairly certain, but even if she had, Kate cannot make the argument that Jeanette had more responsibility than herself to get her out of that situation. Her therapist explains this perfectly when s

Throughout the film, we are told about who Kane was through the eyes of different people, who all had different ideas of who he was: ex. Jedidiah Leland thought he was an idealist who became what he was against while Bernstein thought of him as a genius and was always loyal to him. Even though we are given all of these perspectives, there is something that I donβt believe is ever mentioned within the film. The question being what caused Charles Foster Kane to die? It is never mentioned within the film (whether the news of the March news real to any account by the butler or nurse), at least to my knowledge, about how he died, just that he did in his room at Xanadu and his last words were rosebud. So that leaves the question of how did he die and what might of caused him to be killed?(was it suicide or old age or anything else that could be thought of, just wanted to know what could be thought of why that may be)
Copied to comment section because of the character limit
Looking over AFIβs list of the top 100 movies you should see, itβs crazy to think Citizen Kane has been number 1 for as long as it has. The movie certainly was ground breaking, but there has been a lot of improvement in film-making over the last 80 years. It seems like Citizen Kane is still just number 1 because it always has been.
If you were to redo AFIβs list, what movie would you put at number 1 and why?
What I mean by that is the final shot of the film revealing the answer to a mystery within the plot of the story (or the whole story itself).
There must be other instances of this being used in film, I just don't remember any.
So Iβm new to Indian cinema, and Iβm looking for a strong start to Bollywood. The first Baahubali was a good way to start with Tollywood/Kollywood (Netflix US has the Tamil but not Telugu version), donβt get me wrong, but Iβm looking for something more. I would like to know what you consider the βCitizen Kaneβ of Bollywood.
For reference, here in the US, film nerds basically consider Citizen Kane the greatest movie of all time. Despite being a box office failure, it won massive success from critics, who spread the word, and since then, itβs reputation speaks for itself. It pioneered several techniques that are still used in this day and age among what other movies had at the time. Not to mention the strong writing that served as a commentary about news media of the time. Itβs bound to get to the top 5 of lists of the greatest movies of all time. I did not do as good of a job explaining it as others.
My request of you is simple on paper: what movies can claim that title for Bollywood? (Iβll ask the question for Tollywood, Kollywood and Mollywood next morning my time)
Do you think it's fair to say 2001 is the greatest film in history and a landmark of filmmaking, ahead of Citizen Kane, the Godfather, Casablanca and Gone with the Wind? Perhaps level with Vertigo?
Recently have been going through all his movies and I love so much of what he did. A shame he mostly gets remembered for Kane only, even though he had a very versatile and interesting career and made many great movies.
So we have a little piece of new information and I've been speculating the meaning. Every detail has a meaning, and this is no exception. The first pre order for The Phantom Tomorrow comic book dropped and it has revealed some plot details. We learn that the Blackbird was once a scientist named Dennis Kane, an intellect with a massive ego who causes the collapse of society. This leads to the birth of the Blackbird, a mysterious figure caught between life and death.we don't know what exactly caused this, but there are a few things to note about this.
Dennis is Andy's middle name, so we might assume that this character is written from Andyβs point of view as someone caught in between two worlds. We have another theme of death and rebirth. The Blackbird is caught in between, however. Unable to return to the world of the living, which is what Scientologists believe would happen, and unable to die and achieve closure like Andy wants. He has to stand by and watch the way that his creation has damaged the world. This could be compared to how Andy has had negative feelings about his band and potentially a guilt for passively promoting Scientology and turning a blind eye.
Our lead character is a scientist with a big ego. This could be a reference to L Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology who was a Science fiction author with an ego so large he started a religion that he believed would save humanity. His followers believe that he never died, just simply dropped his body and is traveling the universe to find new technology. They are constantly awaiting his return.
In my opinion, this story line seems to compare Andyβs experience to Hubbard. Through his band, he built up a level of loyalty from a dedicated fanbase. Considering a lot of current fans found them after W&D came out, a lot of the songs that gained him fans were passively promoting Scientology, with the truth staying hidden from the public. Now Andy has to deal with the consequence of his involvement. I was theorizing that the Blackbird might exist as a vessel for Andy to gain redemption, so I canβt say any of this surprises me. I just hope that what we hear about through TPT is reflective of real life.
Something else I find interesting is that they chose the last name Kane. I believe that this is a reference to the film Citizen Kane. The film follows the character of Charles Foster Kane, a cold and detached newspaper mogul and explores the themes of a childhood lost and the consequences of hi

Okay, first off, where do these asshole writers get the temerity to think anyone wants to see SJP attempting actual human drama and emotions? This is a show about fashion, stupid cocktails and sassy one liners about uncircumcised dicks. This is not a show about character depth or a mediation on grief. These jerk offs are acting like itβs the Three Colours trilogy. GTFO with that shit.
Mirandaβ¦.Jesus weptβ¦. Iβll bet the house that by episode 4 Miranda is a functional alcoholic experimenting with lesbianism, which is totally okay because theyβve rewritten Steve to be Mr Magoo. Itβs unreal how bad theyβve screwed this up.
And now sheβs meant to be a goofy-ass Karen as well?? Please. This woman was getting her back blown out by Blair Underwood in the early aughts.
well Carrie still dresses like Stevie Wonder is her personal stylist, so thank God thereβs a little consistency.
According to DVD Beaver's review on the Criterion release there's an error on the Blu-ray Disc in which the brightness on the transfer goes very dark nearly 30 minutes into the film and it remains that way for the entire film (see the screenshots on the review for proof). However the error DOES NOT reappear on the 4K disc, so if you're watching the film on 4K you should be good. If you want a replacement disc for the Blu-ray Disc with the correct brightness I'd advise you go email mulvaney@criterion.com for that request.
Got the 4K Dolby Vision bump recently. I was pleasantly surprised to see it show up in my 4K list, and after double checking everything, itβs legit.
There was a lot of doubt about it since Criterion was putting out the 4K disc, but Apple got it for us.
