Hi everyone,
Wondering if anyone else out there regularly walks into downtown along 4th street from south of 10th avenue and is as disgusted as I with the endless closure of the underpass under 9th avenue. This simple concrete pathway has been closed for almost three years, the majority of which no work was being done at all.
I live in mission on 22nd Ave and 4th street and work downtown on 6th avenue and walking to work along 4th street is how I have got to work for over eight years now.
I have reached out to 311 several times and consulted the City of Calgaryβs website and the completion dates keep getting pushed ahead. Last I heard from 311 they said November 2018. Then the sign was changed to December 2018. This morning when I was walking to work the walking side is now closed AGAIN and switched to the other side AGAIN and now the sign at the closure and the cities website claim it will be completed in February 2019.
When I just conceptualize what an underpass is, it is a strip of concrete pathway elevated above the roads and below the bridge. It is not possible that it takes what is approaching three years to complete.
When I also contemplate the underpasses on both 8th street and 1st street all we are really dealing with is a resurfacing of the walkway, installation of some fancy lights and either re-surfacing the walls of the underpass (8th street) or installing some barriers to the wall of the underpass (1st street).
In the past 311 has given me the excuse of it was Enmaxβs fault for all the delays on account of the electrical upgrades. I do not accept this excuse. As a taxpayer it is getting really frustrating to see how much inefficiencies must be built into this process for it to possibly take this long to complete.
Most of the reason I am angry is that for the overwhelming bulk of the time it has been closed nothing was being done on it. I walked by the closed sidewalk for well over a year where not a single worker was doing anything at all. It was just a closed walkway for no reason at all. 311 has stated that was on account on Enmax but I just do not find that a valid excuse.
There is no plausible reason why the closure needs to keep going on and on and on and on.
Can anyone else believe that the city we live in is actually taking what is almost three years to resurface a concrete walkway and put up some fancy, useless lights?

I just finished Shinsekai Yori. To be honest, the reason I watched this show is because I read somewhere that the title was taken from AntonΓn DvoΕΓ‘k 9th Symphony, titled From The New World. I just wanna know why the author picks this symphony as it's namesake. Are there any similarities between the show and the historical context when the symphony was made?
I lived for years not expecting anything from anyone. I would set the bar quite low, how can someone disappoint you if you don't expect anything out of them, right?
And then BOOM, you meet a person whom you have such a connection, such a feeling, that it's just impossible not to want that person to be a part of your world.
But... seems like this feeling is a one way street.
I know time will heal this, but... damn
