Hi, I am helping a friend who is fully blind setup a samsung A12 phone with Android 11. She is used to a screen reader on windows and is now learning to use talkback. Google assistant can do many things via voice command, so we gave it a try. I turned on assistant and got my friend's voice trained for hey google / ok google.
However, our problem is that once you say 'hey google', talkback immediately starts talking about what is onscreen and google assistant starts speaking simultaneously and its very confusing. Depending on context sometimes after talkback finishes speaking, google assistant is still listening but not always, making it very difficult to use.
The workaround I came up with is to use the shortcut of holding down the volume keys to temporarily turn off talkback, use the assistant, and then reactivate talkback, which is slow and clunky.
Has anyone else had this experience? I'm not sure if we haven't setup things correctly or if the two apps weren't intended to be used together.
Further, when we did try assistant with talkback turned off, the accessibility settings to have google assistant make a sound when it stops and starts listening don't seem to work. This makes its hard for her to tell if the assistant is listening or not. I tried checking volume, turning on and off and restarting and regardless it makes no notification.
It's been rather frustrating so any advice would be welcome - thank you!
Hi! I'm a monitor engineer mixing mostly inears, and I would love to hear how you are incorporating comms and talkbacks into your workflow.
I use a spare bus (usually the mono or center bus) to route all "need to hear always" inputs. Then matrix monitor-out and said bus together to my pack.
But as "need to hear always" inputs grow and grow and also include open mics on stage, things get wooshy-washy. It gets difficult to not get distracted or eq "that piercy hihat" out of all vocalmics, only to discover it bleeds into the MD mic that's open in my ear.
I know there are push-to-talk mics and optogates, I use those wherever I can. I try to gate open talkbackmics or comms. But what works fine for me (I want it to be as quiet as possible), scares the shit out of a bandmember that has the MD from 0 to 100 including "band-wash" open up in his ear when MD talks.
What I do on an S6L is that I create an event on level-above-x on comms-bus. the comms-bus goes through a 2 second tape-delay-plugin. When the event triggers, my desk-lights blink and it fades in the comms-buss into my pack-matrix so that I hear what is said two seconds ago and it doesn't scare the shit out of me.
What do you do to solve this and keep it as clean and direct as possible while still hearing all comms?
I was just at Kari Jobe's last concert of the Blessing Tour and we had vip tx for a stage tour. The stage manager showed us how they all communicate onstage with TalkBack mics that only they can hear. Anyone know of a reasonably priced mic with the TalkBack command button so that the worship leader can communicate with the rest of the team dueting service? Not sure if this is the correct sub but I'm giving it a shot.
Anyone A/B these? Iβve seen mixed reviews on the reissue and listened to it on YouTube, but would love any firsthand anecdotes. Have also considered the Red Panda Tensor for its reverse (among its other features), and have the TC Electronic Nova ND-1 with reverse, but it sounds pretty cheeseball. Thanks!
So our district is holding these talkback sessions with the superintendent. He is coming around to each school to let teachers ask questions and whatnot. He is new to the district so I think that's where it's coming from. Anyways he's nice and all he is extremely articulate, but he just kept repeating the same phrase over and over again. "Keep students at the center. If we can do that then everything else will be fine." And it's just like dude. Sure. But what about us?! Teachers are leaving across the country in drives and that's all you can say. What about admin keeping staff at the center? Take care of us. If we aren't happy and functioning, then how can we focus on the students? It just seemed so out of touch.
Anyone using TalkBack get an update where clicking on anything doesn't make a sound after you double click and open it? Like the navigation menu on a website, or if I'm listening to something and click on the go back 15 seconds button. Or if I'm opening an app, there is a sound effect when the focus indicator lands on the app and then again once the app actually opens but not right after you click on the app to notify that I've clicked the button. And pretty much any other button. I'm new to screen readers but I couldn't find anything in the TalkBack settings to turn it back on. It stopped making that sound today after TalkBack updated for me with a few new features. Also I use a Samsung s10e if that affects anythingβ
Youse guys are going to talk to each other if it kills me.
I'm going to start assigning random flairs and shit. It'll be wacky.
Also, does anyone know where the mic actually is on the unit? Canβt seem to find it.

Thank you!
Ona CL5, and there is a request to add a talk back mic for the backup band members to use instead of having to use hand signals like we used to do before the pandemic.
I'm constantly mixing the main band lead how he likes it, having his mix cued in my cue pack.
My question is how do only I, the engineer, hear these mics? My idea was to just have these extra talk back mics ona stomp box/hold to unmute pedal, and for me to just cue them in conjunction with the leaders mix.
Is there a better way to do this? If move to a different person's mix, I currently have it set up for the cue to follow. Will me changing between mixes un-cue those mics?
Hope this makes sense, would prefer to stay on this console, but am open to using a different console. It's mainly a fly date band who owns only personal backline.
When using TalkBack, there are some unlabeled controls on the upvote/downvote buttons. Interestingly, if you continue swiping, you then step into the actual buttons and vote count text, which are labeled.
So if you swipe through all the controls for a single post item, it reads:
"Unlabeled", "Unlabeled", "Upvote", "42" (or whatever the vote count is), "Downvote", "Post title", "Thumbnail, click to view link"
Personally I'm not a TalkBack user primarily (although I am visually impaired, and use it every so often) but I figured I'd point this out as I imagine it's probably annoying to full time screen reader users.

A: Turn on TalkBack. Go into RiF and tap a post title in a subreddit list. Swipe left through the controls. Alternately, tap on the upvote arrow.
Am I the only one having issues with the TalkBack feature in live Sentry Mode? It won't work via Apple or Android app. Camera viewing works just fine. The phone seems to be sending the sound (at least according to my microphone permissions) but no sound comes out of the car's PWS. This is a MYLR running 2021.36.8.5 FSD 10.4.
I just want a desktop PTT microphone to use in a recording studio for talkback a la Shure 522. Everything I'm finding is from a manufacturer I don't recognize that I worry will be too lo-fi or from manufacturers I recognize, but too hi-fi for use in conference rooms. I need a Goldilocks PTT desktop microphone. Expecting to keep it under $300. I'm tempted to pass a 58 through a Radial inline switch, but there's got to be a sexier solution.
Hey. I'm the sound mixer and guarantee engineer on some sports broadcasts. I've got a KP 32 keypanel in my position.
Floor manager receives production fallback via an IFB which feeds a radio base station. The ifb goes out on port 14.
The RTS crate, and the radio base station are located on our scanner, a separate truck.
So here's my question. The floor manager often requests changes to their feed - they can't hear enough of the director, or they hear too much of the PA, for example.
Is there any way that I can monitor the output of port 14 on my KP32? Just so I can listen in to the ifb to diagnose what the issue might be?
I can't figure a way to do that, from what I see I can only listen to the INPUT of port 14.

Hi guys, I have been doing some accessibility testing at work on mobile devices for web pages (we have iPhones and Samsung S10s). I've got a pretty good handle on how TalkBack and VoiceOver work thanks to having seen my fiance use TalkBack a lot over the years. I've even set up the accessibility button on my phone so I can turn TalkBack on quickly whenever I need it to test something.
Yesterday evening I accidentally hit the TalkBack button while out with my fiance and he noticed that I was using the default Samsung voice rather than the Google voice. So my question is - which do you use? I am using British voices if that helps.
I noticed that Samsung voice is mucking up the pronunciation of some pretty common words on the web page, but is fine with the same words on WhatsApp. The iPhone and NVDA also handle the same words fine. So I'm trying to work out if this is a TalkBack issue or because the voice is stupid. Any advice would be useful.
Finally. When I open the keyboard to type in a form field, and I'm done typing, there isn't always a button to hide the keyboard on Android. Is there a gesture I can use to make it go away? Or do I just need to manually select the web page again and swipe through to find the correct field?
Thanks guys. I hope these questions are not dumb.
I made a testing tool for devs and QA's, to test accessibility strings. Texts that would be pronounced by TalkBack are shown as tooltips, without being burdened by the additional gestures or the constant talking after every tap.
I want to publish it to the Play Store and I'm wondering if I could use the name TalkBack in any way. App name ideas are TalkBackTester and TooltipBack, clearly referencing Talkback.
Talkback has this licence. Does that enable me to use its' name?

Hi :)
My uncle managed to activate talkback somehow and he cant turn it off. He is living in another country and only way i can help him is with videocall, we tried yesterday with no success.
I tried to watch some tutorials on youtube , it should be as simple as pressing few buttons but his menu on tv is different. When i click on the gear from the home menu i don't get the menu on the right where accessibility is on the bottom ,instead menu opens on the left on the screen, we tried to search for talkback or accessibility options there but we couldn't find any.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Philips android tv , model 43PUS7304/12 probably not updated to latest version
