I bought a tiny pine tree from a grocery store yesterday. The tag called it an Italian stone pine (but tbh, it's so small it could be anything). My internet research indicates that a pine tree is unlikely to last more than a few weeks indoors, but why exactly? Is it the temperature? Humidity? I'm not expecting to grow a full size pine tree in a pot or anything, I'm just wondering why they have such a hard time living indoors. Thanks!

I'm doing a desk for myself out of pine. I'm doing a stone inlay put of beautiful blue apatite across no small portion of this top. I did a test piece but I'm wanting some more opinions on order of events as I don't have a ton of material to do numerous test pieces if possible.
Using CA glue as the adhesive will cause issues with staining the piece after doing the inlay. I also worry that stain will seep into the inlay and diminish this amazing color.
After a ton of reading and videos (and discovering there are about 50 different schools of thought on this) I think my best bet would be to:
- sand the entire piece
- wood conditioner (as I always do on pine)
- stain
- completely seal with poly
- optional, recut my carvings if the previous steps have filled the void too much.
- inlay the crushed and powdered stones as usual.
This would keep my overall color from being ruined by the ca glue, and allow me to sand the inlay flush to the top (hopefully) with only removing the poly. Then after all is done, I can move to completely sealing the completed peice.
Is there something I'm missing, overlooking, or just doing wrong or does this plan sound correct?
I've seen numerous ideas on the subject but I'd love your help.
