The funny thing is if you put a salt lamp up against a mass spectrometer it shows that it emits zero negative or positive ions.

Meteorite? Spectrometer says its lead. Found nearly two feet in ground under oak tree at a pre civil war homesite/sawmill in Louisiana. Treeβs dated 300-400 years old. Brown crust and surface impressions look and feel like the oak leaves from the tree I found it under.

Bought a cheap spectrometer online but really didn't like how messy the spectrum was coming out so I designed an adapter to attach a fiber cable. I was surprised how much it improved the quality of the spectral data.

Is there anyone in London who has a spectrometer I could take pictures with?
We have an assignment in class where we are assigned a piece of lab equipment and have to write about it. If I can get a photo with one, and include it in my assignment, my teacher will give me a 5% bonus in the course. Please help!!!!!

This is what a bunch of ions look like. This is a cone from a ICP-MS. Itβs used to focus the sampleβs ions (Arsenic, Lead, Copper etc) to the mass spectrometer. Overtime ions that do not make it through that tiny hole build up on the cone and it has to be cleaned.

How to report an FTIR Spectra diagram like this? I used PerkinElmer Spectrum 400 FT-IR/FT-FIR Spectrometer, and the spectra I saved is in ascii file. I reconstruct the spectrum in Excel, however I don't know how to create a spectra with labelled peaks like the photo attached.

This mass spectrometer costs $600K and lets you accurately measure the mass of molecules to within 0.0005% (5ppm) of their true mass. Also used to quantify molecules like PEDs in sporting events and pesticides in fruits and vegetables.

Thunder Optics Spectrometers for Food Analysis
I'm looking to measure the reflectance of some fruits like grapes and blueberries to determine quality and ripeness in the range of about ~400nm - 900nm. I found the Thunder Optics Mini USB Spectrometer for $90 (link below) and I'm a little concerned about if I can use this spectrometer for this study. I also found the SMA spectrometer (also from Thunder Optics), but both of these products are recommended for analysis of light sources.
Do you know if I can use any of these devices to evaluate reflectance of fruits? Do you know of any other low cost espectrometers that could work for me? Does anyone have some experience with these devices?

Anyone familiar with Perkin Elmer Lambda spectrometers? I am at my wit's end with PE
Has anyone here used Perkin Elmer's high-performance UV/Vis/NIR spectrometers? Perkin Elmer themselves have been completely unhelpful with this so I figured I'd ask here. I am using a PE Lambda 900 but the documentation is so terrible that I can't even begin to figure out what's going on here. For some reason, the spectrometer hesitates for a second or two at around 565 nm while doing wavelength scans, and a large dip in the spectrum occurs at a slightly shorter wavelength...
Why? None of the monochromators or lamps switch anywhere near this wavelength, so why the hell is it pausing and why do I see a dip in my absorbance spectra just after that pause that is almost 8 nm wide? This dip is not near any of the tungsten or deuterium lamp peaks either. I am becoming increasingly frustrated with Perkin Elmer's unbelievably sparse documentation so I figured I'd take a break from their "support" and ask here just in case anyone had seen this before, because there have been SO many other things that they simply fail to mention in the manual.

Convert .png Spectrometer images to numpy array.
Hello again everyone,
Some day ago I had submitted the following question regarding the availability of data from the GEMS instrument installed on GEO-KOMPSAT 2B. I finally got an answer from a South Korean researcher, and if anyone is interested only some images are available at the following link:
https://nesc.nier.go.kr/product/view
I was now wondering if anyone has already worked on converting such .png images in python numpy arrays and could suggest which steps to follow. Thank you in advance!

They were doing free drug analysis in my city today. Dope came back as 82% diacetylmorphine and heroin base and 18% caffeine and acetaminophen. Does anyone know if this is what you would expect from your heroin #3? No fentanyl or other additives detected
