AITA for asking my SO for a promissory note?

My (25M) SO (37 F) has had a rough time during the pandemic. We have been dating for 2 years. She works in fitness and with the government shutdown, her work essentially dried up. She refuses to work a 9 to 5 or work any job outside of her current work. I have a government job while in grad school and live with my parents so I am more stable than her. I've helped her out a great deal during this time.

She wants to open a fitness studio and found a space. For her proposal, she used my pay stubs and tax info and called me her business partner (There was no intention of sharing profits or splitting control of the business with me). I didn't think my info would help much, but I did have a loan approval letter that I thought could help in creating the image of stability. I give her 10k to help with obtaining the lease, and somehow, I ended up agreeing to take the loan out for her. I did not mention a promissory note until this week. Based on conversations and impressions, I did not think that without the loan she could not have the business. I would not have agreed to the loan if I realized this. We orally agreed that it would be her loan and she would follow the ban terms.

I cashed the check earlier this week and before I sent her the money, I asked her for a promissory note through text. I didn't think asking for a note was a big deal since it was just writing down what she orally promised. She did not take this well. First, she has negative feelings towards me asking for the note through text. She states that I never bought up a promissory note the entire time and had I mentioned this she would have not gone through with the lease. She states that my asking for a promissory note is saying that I do not trust her words. She also says that has an issue with the possibility that I would take her to court. She says I should know her character by now and I should know she would never leave me in a back position because she is not that kind of person. She says that she has planned out the business around this loan and it is backhanded to bring up a promissory note now. She also says this puts her back against the wall because it's either she has to sign the note or she give up the business.

Now she is saying that she is going to try to get out of the lease and try to mitigate her loss. If she does this, I will be out 10k and have the 15k loan to pay back (basically just the 5k in interest). To make her not

I was robbed in 2016, the offender got off probation in July with over $11,000 still owed and made a promissory note to make payments at $100 but has not paid at all. In November, the criminal court judge's office called me to tell me called because he wanted to pay me to get it off the record...

Since the end of November, I have not heard or seen any kind of money. The judge's secretary told me to call her when I received the payment but I have called her 3 times to tell her that I have not received anything. The last time I called was Jan. 3 and she said she was waiting till the holidays were over to get in touch with him again because she has not heard from him since he called in November. She said that when he called in November, he was very sincere in his desire to pay me what he owes me because he wants to get this incident off his record and that he wouldn't have called to get my contact info if he had no desire to actually pay me. She said that the offender lost his copy of the promissory note and that is why he needed to call the court to get my information and that was the reason for calling me in November.

So I still haven't heard from the offender and I'm starting to think that I will never hear from him. Part of the promissory note states that I have the full right to pursue my money in a legal manner including taking him to civil court. If I do have to take him to civil court over the money, then I can add my attorney fees and any court filing fees to the balance of the promissory note.

So, I'm thinking, do I have the ability to sue him for the rest of the restitution owed in the promissory note and more? Since he portrayed himself as a moving business and he admitted that he falsified that information, can I get him on false adverting and breach of contract? I would also like to add punitive damages of $1200 for every year since 2016 for pain and suffering because he stole one of my mother's medical devices. It was the battery charger for the electronic neurostimulator that is implanted on her spine. When it was stolen, the charge went out of the neurostimulator and she was bedridden for a while and her back has not been like it was to the point where now her doctors are thinking about fusing parts of her spine. Those punitive damages would also cover the anguish of losing family heirlooms, items from deceased relatives and friends, the mental suffering my child had to go through for the loss of all of her clothes to the point where she only had 1-2 outfits to start school in till I could replace everything we had (had to replace furniture first b/c we were sleeping on the floor) and was constantly teased and belittled by classmates (she had just started 6th grade and was already a plus size child).

I really want to buy the adjacent lot next to my recent house purchase, but I don't see a financially responsible way to do so unless I pitched a promissory note, or took a similar long shot as I won't be ready to buy for 1.5 years. Anyone have advice, or unique anecdote to share?

TL;DR - See Title.

The necessary preface: it's not because I can't get approved for the loan, or cover the down payment. I could even probably pay cash outright if I really wanted to. The problem is, I'm in a single income household until my wife graduates in 1.5 years and I don't feel comfortable losing any of my "cushion" until that happens. She will be graduating and be immediately employed as an RN in approx 1.5 yrs.

Situation: So, I own a home in a fairly nice neighborhood. The .49 acre lot next door is up for sale, and I want it. We plan on staying here for a very long time, and it would be nice to add to our yard size and minimize the risk of someone building on it right in our face, ya know? I'd probably be willing to pay anything in the future to get my hands on it. That being said, I don't feel it's the responsible thing to do drop a 10-20K down payment, or a 60K land purchase prior to my wife graduating, with economic uncertainty and what not I'd rather hold as much cash as possible in case of catastrophic events to protect myself until I'm back up to 2 incomes.

That being said, this is a property I really want that I don't see selling anytime soon due to environmental/ geographical considerations. I would really like to get this property somehow, and I'm not sure if I'm SOL if it sells within the next 1.5 years. That led me to investigating a promissory note situation, or essentially a promise that when that dual income kicks in, I'll pay whatever number they want me to because it's that important to me.

The property: The location is indeed hot, we are forecast for top 3 housing markets in 2022, but it's a weird property that may have hard time selling, also *just* outside of the most desirable area. It's been listed for 10 months. It's listed at $65K, which is about 10-15K over where it should be. Additionally, the half acre is on a STEEP hill with a 8/10 flood rating due to the slope/ creek passing through in the back. I believe the seller is the neighbor from the block behind us taking pieces of his property off and selling them out for development.

So, all of you redditors much wiser than me, is there anyway I can reasonably get this property? or if I'm not comfortable doing this in traditional means, am I SOL if someone swoops in within the next year? Does anyone have unique anecdote to share regarding a situation like this?

question about the Nekro Virus's promissory note

The Nekro virus have the promissory note "Antivirus", which is as following:

Antivirus: At the start of a combat:

Place this card face-up in your play area. While this card is in your play area, the Nekro player cannot use their TECHNOLOGICAL SINGULARITY faction ability against you.

If you activate a system that contains 1 or more of the Nekro player's units, return this card to the Nekro player.

I have two questions regarding the card.

My first question is once the player placed the card in his play area, does it stay there until he activates a nekro system, or is it a one fight only?

Second question is if a player activates a nekro system before he placed the card in his play area, does he return it to the nekro virus?

Is this handwritten property promissory note legally binding?

Note was handwritten in 1981, when parents divorced. Property was promised to daughter (child) from mother in California. Document includes property address and stipulation that it be handled by a trust account, for matters of selling or reinvesting, and the document functions as a mutual agreement between father and mother, not to be superseded by child support amount. Handwritten signatures with dates and location are included.

This property, after the agreement was written was later sold by the mother as she was the owner after father had quick claimed off the property, and to my knowledge no trust account was allocated to this purpose. Does the adult daughter at this time as an adult have legal recourse on the property and/or on amount the property was sold for?

Misprint: Doubled up pink promissory notes, missing orange ones

Just wondering if anyone's had this misprint issue: I've just got ahold of my copy of Prophecy of Kings I ordered from my FLGS almost a year ago (Yay living in New Zealand. Asmodee hasn't made it easy for us over here...) and it appears I have two copies of the Pink player's Ceasfire and Political Secret, and I'm missing the corresponding cards for the Orange player. I'm not optimistic about being able to get this resolved in a timely fashion going through my FLGS (Plus they're a small operation, I really don't want to cause them this kind of bother as it was hard enough to get a copy into the country to begin with), and I've tried emailing Asmodee support but I'm not holding out hope there either. Failing either of those, does anyone have any scans of the Orange promissory notes for Ceasefire and Political Secret that they'd be willing to share so I can just get replacement copies printed myself?

Paid reservation fee for a new house and builder asking for another 20% as a promissory note [MB]

Is there any catch on this deal?

For background, I am in the market for a house. The town I am in has a booming population and has new housing developments. I am able to save enough 20% down payment for a $300,000 house - so $60,000 liquid cash. I have went to showings of a couple older houses but did not really liked them so I looked into new builds.

There was a new 4br 2bath semi-detached house in the process of being built - asking price was $291,000 (GST included). This is through a private seller that has hired a general contractor to build the duplex. I eventually liked this new build and have signed a contract with the seller with a $5,000 reservation fee (completion date approximately for March 2022).

Now here's the catch, seller is asking for approximately the rest of my 20% down payment ($55,000) as a promissory note. This is the letter drafted by the seller's lawyer. Per this note, I get a 10% rate of return that I can basically use as a credit for the purchase price of the house (in addition to the reservation fee). Is there any catch on this? Anyone have done this with a seller when they were buying for a new build? Should I pursue this?

I'll be calling a real estate tomorrow and inquire about this but maybe the internet has some advice too. This $55,000 will basically sit on my EQ Bank savings account until the house is built so I don't mind getting an extra $1-$2,000 from the interest as a credit to the purchase price. I already have an emergency fund set aside, as well as a mortgage pre-approval.

Removing two Promissory Notes

So the few times my group has played TI4, I've been unhappy with how the Promissory notes have played out. We've only played the game about 5 times, and we have about 1 or 2 new players every time. The only 2 notes that anyone has used so far are the Cease Fire and Support for the Throne. The Cease Fire cards generally get traded pretty early and after that, it feels like politics takes more of a back seat, since alliances have been made. The Support for the Throne cards are generally hoarded up by a more experienced player, since generally the newer players don't realize how big a VP is early-mid game.

Since I have only played the game a handful of times, I don't really know how valid my opinion is on these cards, so I was hoping the community might help me out.

We are going to try out Prophecy of Kings this coming weekend and I was considering just leaving the two problem Promissory Notes out. Has anyone tried this? Is there a better solution in the community? Since we are trying out the expansion, I assume that I want to leave the new Promissory note for leaders in the game?

Also is there a good balanced 4 player map for PoK? Or does someone have a generator that works with the expansion?

Do I actually need to sign the Master Promissory Note if I don't plan on taking a loan?

Hello everyone. For starters, my school is in Utah, but I live in Texas and will be taking it in Texas fully online. I signed up for federal financial aid, and it (the Pell grant) was awarded no problem, but I just received an email saying that I have to complete the Master Promissory Note, which is basically a contract that says I will pay back whatever loans I received from them. I don't plan on taking any loans and will pay for whatever the Pell grant doesn't cover out of my own pocket, so do I necessarily have to sign it, or can I just ignore it for now?

The one thing that's kind of bothering me about it is that I need to have two references that they can contact if they can't contact me, but both have to have different addresses, and I actually don't have anyone but my parents (who have the same address) because the rest of my family lives in a different country.

Any input is appreciated. Thank you very much.

Commercial landlord requiring proof of funding and legality of promissory notes?

Hi all. I'll try the TL;DR approach to this...

My business partner and I are trying to start a business (gym) for which we need a premises, ideally 2-4,000sqft of warehouse space, close to other work places AND homes.

We have equipment leasing approved, and are part of the way through a start-up loan with the Start-Up Loan Company.

The Start-Up Loan Company want to see a draft building lease before they proceed any further, commercial landlords want to see proof of funding before they take the time to show us around potential buildings.

We also have a family loan promised to us (max Β£50k), to be paid back monthly.

Our (US based) mentor has advised us to proceed to the landlords with our equipment lease, the latest from the Start-Up Loan Company and a Promissory Note from the family member regarding their loan to us.

How legally binding is a Promissory Note in the UK (family member will want to know), and does this need to be overseen by a solicitor?

Thanks!

Is this going to hurt/stop us from getting a home loan/getting one at a decent rate? Pending other areas of our credit are in a decent/good state?
