I've gotten into this game at the time of Switch release and sorry, but the SEASONAL grind is outrageous and not fitting the mood or psychology of game at all.

Please bear in mind that I'm not talking about regular candles that everyone can earn in their spare time, whenever they want. 10 per week, or 90 per week - it's everybody choice.

I'm talking about seasonals.

I bought pass for the first time of my life life. After seeing the maths that you can miss 16 days and still get everything I was peaceful.

But then two things happened: first of all, like most of human beings, I became tired of grinding. I was logging everyday for 12 days and doing same and same areas over and over. I do understand the psychology of this game and that it's the point, but when you have to do it, it feels different. So I took a break...

...and then I got sick. I had symptoms so severe that I haven't been able to touch game for seven days. And I can safely say that it's over - I'm this close to potentially not 100% completing pass I paid my hard-earned money for.

Why is it working like that? When I completed this game and played it for relax, it was nice thing to relax at and collect wax. After you buy pass it becomes nothing else but just another FOMO mobile game. It's not very subtly trying to trick me into buying seasonal candles for pass I already own. Sigh. I rush through areas to complete dailes that disappear next day. I don't "admire" sapling but watch it to get dopamine boost from new candle. I open areas I don't like (Wasteland, I'm looking at you) only to eat last piece of wax and teleport home to check cosmetics progress.

You can defend it by saying two things:

  • But you don't have to achieve anything.
    • Well, I don't have to, as previously said, but if I paid some money for new cosmetics I'd rather get them all. The pass isn't cheap and it's understandable I think.
  • Any pass works like that.
    • It isn't that severe. In Fortnite I was done after few weeks. You can reach lvl 100 fast by playing for two weeks straight. You can boost your progress by finding XP coins and doing challenges that are not time-limited. Furthermore, this game gives you another pass as a reward.

I think that this grindset seriously needs to change. Maybe in form of additional weekly challenges to complete all areas without Eden? Or some "complete X wax" bars? Or more free candles than one per day? What do you think? Because any love I had for Sky (and it was BIG!) I'm losing now. Not to mention that this situation is meant to be a reward for supporting the game :(
