I have a wild Irish whistle from mcneela and I want to give it a good clean but I want to then replace the grease on the fipple as its metal on metal. Is there any grease that should be used or is best to use or would vaseline work fine?
Was it because they required less maintenance than other instruments such as stringed and fretted ones? i.e. no strings to replace (I believe gut strings broke almost daily). No need to tune them? More portable, even pocket sized?
A recorder, you kind of just buy one and...that's it. You just play it. Some care is required of course. But once you've got one, you're kind of set for life (assuming it's decent quality).
Or was it just the musical preference of the time?

I heard about fipple bending, but don’t understand it. Could someone explain?
Hello! I'd like to find a pendant similar to the Tenrai 8h but alto/tenor. I already have an STL max range pendant but even if you can use the tone holes to go a bit down from the tonic it's really hard to fipple bend because of the long airway it has (and the highest two notes squeak like crazy so I'm a bit disappointed in general by this pendant).
I also have a focalink seedpod alto C and even if it has wonderful sound fipple bending is hard (easier than on max range pendant btw) and you have to eat the darn thing in order to reach the voicing hole. A lot of songs I like to play require to go pretty down the tonic and I have no problem with the tenrai 8h (it can go 5 notes below), I also like the ability to easy fipple bending to increase the range of the oc in general.
could you tell me if you know a pendant with these features?
I know that if you blow across the top of a bottle to produce a note, the amount of water in the bottle affects the pitch. The more water in the bottle, the less space there is for the air to vibrate, thus more water = higher note, less water = lower note. However, if you leave the amount of water unchanged, but cover part of the hole to make a smaller fipple, the note you hear drops in pitch. Why? It seems to me that a smaller fipple would raise the pitch, though I can't come up with a good reason why.

I'm an inventor, and I'm working on a new recorder paradigm-
I had a beautiful Moeck bass, which fell prey to the realities of the Covid economy, but I'm back on my feet.
I'm hoping to find a source, from one of the companies that produce plastic bass recorders, of bocal/fipple headjoints- I need a few dozen.
I've dug around, but not found anything, and have no interest (read ability) in setting up a plastic injection molding system-
Has anyone with a plastic bass encountered such a thing (?)

My dad bought a flute back from India as a souvenir, weirdly it's a transverse flute with a fipple (aka a whistle), it has six holes on the side and block inside. I've been messing around with it and wondering if it's possible to hit higher octaves with such a flute. There is no back hole like in the recorder, any suggestions/ideas?
