A list of puns related to "English Setter"
Just putting feelers out in this community to see if anybody knows of any litters. Would also be willing to adopt a young setter, under 9 months. Thanks.
Hi everyone, I have a one year old English Setter with short hair and, I don't know if it's normal, she gets soaked wet even with the morning frost. Since where I'm from is getting colder I was wondering: is it safe for her to stay out in the snow without a raincoat? Should I be concerned about her paws?
We lost my dadβs beloved pup Ginny very suddenly on Friday due to pythiosis. my family is very close and we are all dog peopleβ¦ this is a huge loss for us. she was so so loved.
My dad is a retired scientist and a huge outdoorsman; he lives on the water, goes out on the boat every day, and hunts whatever is in season. Naturally, he got himself a beautiful English Setter puppy at the beginning of the pandemic and immediately began training her to be his gundog. they were inseparable from the beginning. living in a rural bayside area meant that Ginny got to go everywhere with my dad. She was his first mate for every fishing and crabbing trip, his errands buddy, his hunting partner.
She had been exhibiting some behavioral changes in the last few months that my dad chalked up to her growing up and getting into more intensive gundog training. She was more lethargic than usual, losing some weight, and a little picky about eating, but she was still her happy and rambunctious self and maintained her fierce loyalty to my dad and their training regimen up until the end.
This past week the symptoms got worse and she was straining on her bowel movements, so my dad took her in to the vet, where he learned that her GI tract was infected with Pythiosis. She likely picked it up from stagnant water back in the summer. There was nothing he could do but say goodbye to her.
I am absolutely distraught and heartbroken, both for our sweet Ginny and for my dad. To think that for the last few months that she was suffering, but still so loyal to the sport and the training and to being my dadβs companion through and through, it just breaks my heart.
We meet at my dadβs house on the water for family parties quite often and everyone brings their dogs. I have a little terrier mix named Pip and she is one of the most emotionally adept dogs iβve ever met. Sheβs just one of those special dogs who connects emotionally with people.
while we were grieving together yesterday at the house, I watched Pip sniffing around quite a lot more than she usually does and I think she was looking for Ginny. At one point she came and sat in my lap and looked at me with an expression I have literally never seen before in my 4 years with her. I could see the grief in her eyes. I think she knew that Ginny was gone forever.
Iβm just in total shock of all this. it was so sudden. my dad is an incredibly reserved person emotionally and yesterday I watched him cry for one of the first times in my life
... keep reading on reddit β‘An English Setter is my dream dog. I've had springer spaniels growing up, but I still want to do my research to ensure a Setter is a good fit for me & have realistic expectations for my puppy. So as part of my research, I'd love for you to share some of your experiences with me (Especially if your Setter is not a working dog).
FYI - I'm an active young professional in my twenties with no kids (as of yet π) I just want to make sure I can give my potential pup the most fulfilling life possible. Thank you for anything you share with me! X
Hi everyone, as the post title states, Iβm looking for food recommendations from other English Setter owners. I heard Oriijen is a good all natural real ingredient brand but one concern is the protein ratio of 38 percent. It sounds high for a dogβs kidneys to metabolize. I have read the best protein to fat ratio for a working dog is 24% protein to 18% fat. Thoughts on all? π
So I've a lot of experience with English Springer and Cocker Spaniels (working mix), Sprockers and Cockapoos.
I love them.
But I really want something different for a change...
I've always fancied these breeds:
Doberman
English Bull Terriers
Newfoundland (but I can't handle the slobber :( )
I wonder if any of these have similar personalities to Spaniels?
I'm looking for an active dog that can walk 5-10 miles some days, but doesn't NEED that everyday, sometimes I only walk 2-3 miles.
Is great with people and other animals inc dogs.

I'm open to other suggestions BUT...
Golden Retrievers, Collies, Labradors, Sighthounds, GSD, Malinois, Huskies, Malamutes, Rottweilers, Bully Breeds (other than EBT) , Weimaraners and Great Danes are all NO. I know these breeds and they're not for me. Additional: Setters - drool.
