[AP Physics] I am confused with an elasticity problem with the use of Young’s Modulus. Can anyone explain why we would use tension and not compression in this problem?

Question: During a wrestling match, a 150 kg wrestler briefly stands on one hand during a maneuver designed to perplex his already moribund adversary. By how much does the upper arm bone shorten in length? The bone can be represented by a uniform rod 38.0 cm in length and 2.10 cm in radius.

The answer key is saying to use the Young’s modulus value for bone tension rather than bone compression.

Why would this be tension and not compression?

What if we use regular data compression software in conjunction with physics equations to compress and extrapolate higher and lower spacial dimensions?

I want to understand dimensions. I want to compress and extrapolate higher dimensions into my spacial dimensions.

Like if we compress enough lower dimensions (including decimal dimensions), we might be able to extrapolate higher spacial dimensions like the ones we already know about. Then we can compress those dimensions into our spacial dimensions (3-dimensions plus time), so we can view them visually.

Is the best theory of physics the smallest compression of the data in the periodic table? Or what dataset if best compressed would be a good enough replacement for the best so far model of physics?

I speculate that any model which best compresses an image containing all commonly observed molecule types, would also be a useful model in predicting hawking radiation, supercollider behavior, and industrial chip production.

And if its not, then I will seriously reconsider my belief in the relation between compression and intelligence.

I'd like to try creating such a model. Can you direct me to the data and number of bits I'd have to compress it, including the quality of predictions it makes, that small for it to be considered the best model of physics? I'm willing to sacrifice such a puzzle being harder than physicists currently face in exchange for it being a self contained math statement that no expert need interpret but is known how good of a solution it is automaticly.

I estimate I can not prove to anyone that P != NP since such a proof is itself in NP or harder, but compression of a specific thing to a specific size is undeniable. If such a size and context would not be enough to change the world, please give me the harder puzzle that is also self-contained, nomatter how big a thing it must be self contained inside, that changes the world by any computer verified solution. Or admit that nobody knows even what they're looking for.

A practical guide to track compression (mixing): compression levels and attack/release times

Compression can be daunting to beginners: compression is everywhere when producing popular music (all genres, really), and is even present on classical music to a minor extent, but dialing in that compression is really done on a case-by-case basis. It depends on the genre, it depends on the sound you want to achieve, and also the kind of track you're processing (is it a drum? A guitar? A bass guitar? Vocals? Is it a bus or a single track? etc.). This post has the aim to provide some very general pointers to compression in a way that many articles on the matter seem to overlook.

Compression levels

For starters, how much should you compress? Of course it depends, but generally speaking, in the context of compression (so let's say, at 4:1 ratios and below, over which I'd tend to talk about limiting, since 8:1 ratios are quite aggressive already):

0-3dB compression (peak meters): light compression*.* When should you use light compression? When compression isn't all that needed, simply put :D for example on electric guitars, especially on crunch sounds and over, you rarely need lots of compression, if any at all, since the amp or the stompbox is already doing a lot of compression. Buses, generally speaking, benefit from light compression to glue stuff together (true both of the master bus and sub-buses). Or maybe you might use a compressor set lightly at the end of an FX chain that also includes other compressors just to level the track a touch (and letting you use less compression before, for a more natural sound). You'll also often find yourself using longer attack and release times with light compression, as the purpose is just to make things that little bit smoother and make tracks or buses sit better in the mix.

3-7dB compression (peak meters): medium compression. When should you use medium compression? On uneven tracks that need to be made a bit more homogenous and fatter. An uncompressed snare or kick drum might sound a bit clicky and weak in the mix, and they might benefit from squashing those transients and lifting the body a bit. A bass guitar, especially when played with a pick or slapped, might drop in and out of the mix when uncompressed, being too loud and too quiet at the same time (or rather, at different times in their envelope). Vocals in louder mixes might need to be a bit more "in your face" (vocals are sort of a different matter, they usually need a lot of work for modern-sounding productions, whether you like it or

[Physics] Tension and Compression

Here's the Question: https://prnt.sc/hqnjyy which shows the answers I put at the bottom, I don't actually know the correct answers but it's telling the ones I put are wrong.

-Tcos43 + Ccos34 = 0
Tsin43 + Csin34 - 1453N = 0

C= T(cos43/cos34)
C = T0.8821719616

Tsin43 + T(0.8821719616)*(sin34) = 1453
Tsin43+T0.4933043006 = 1453
T = 1453/1.175302661
T = 1236.2773

round to 1 decimal is 1236.3 N

Where am I going wrong in these steps? What would be the correct answer?

Nigel Goodrich’s use of compression

You learn something everyday….

β€œI took a quick listen and loaded up the Reckoner and Nude stems (available online from many sources - Google it) into a DAW. One thing to immediately notice about every single stem is that the dynamic range of every track is very limited. Obviously the steady singing and playing accounts for some of the constant presence of each instrument, but you can audibly hear an unsubtle degree of compression on each individual track. Nigel is not shy and every instrument is audibly locked into place.

As many mastering engineers will tell you, getting the balance right at the mix will make their job easier. When you have individual tracks that are adequately compressed without any strong peaks, you’re giving the mastering engineer (in this case, the great Bob Ludwig) an opportunity to make things loud without having to correct isolated peaks that jump out. Some argue it can take the life out of the music, but done in a musical way, as Nigel does, it can allow the music to maintain a constant apparent loudness without disappearing at sparser, quieter moments in the arrangement. β€œ

[University Physics] Count rubber pad's pressure and compression force

I'm having trouble counting this, english isn't my first language so sorry if it doesn't make sense;

Rubber pad is set driftless in x-direction between two stiff walls. The pad is pressed in Z-direction with a force of 10kN. In Y-direction the pad can expand freely. Count the pressure and the compression force on the walls.

Here's a photo of the pad; https://imgur.com/EGS1kSz

h = 30mm

b = 50mm

a = 100mm

Poisson's ratio = 0,45

Young's Modulus = 20 MPa

Been stuck with this for a few days now, what do I need to count to get the answers? Formulas would be greatly appreciated!

Suspected cervical spine compression/jugular vein issue. I could really do with some help – I’m here to tell my story with my health complications in the past year. It’s a long story but I’m going to keep it as summarised as possible.

I’m a 32-year-old male from the UK. Fairly healthy - not obese, follow a moderate diet, drink alcohol a few times a month and a recreational cannabis user (not heavy just a few days a month). I haven’t had any significant health issues in the past. I work two jobs – a business analyst during the day and a video editor during the nights. I have been doing these jobs for well over 10 years and work quite a lot of hours – 8 during the day, and probably 5-6 during the evenings/nights. So as you can imagine that's a lot of time sat on a chair. I have always had pretty bad posture – specifically when sitting I slouch my back and lean my head forward.

Around January 2021 I started getting symptoms of urinary frequency, bloating, irregular bowel movements and lower back pain – it felt as if I couldn’t completely empty my bladder and I would have to use the bathroom way more often than usual. I also had some pelvic discomfort. I saw my local GP for this and was tested for UTI's and STI's – everything came back clear. I was put on ciproflaxcin antibiotics for 4 weeks for suspected prostatitis, however, this didn’t solve my symptoms. I was then referred to a urologist who did an ultrasound on my bladder, prostate exam, blood test which all came back clear. I should also mention that around this time I did a stool test because I was going more frequently, had some abdominal pain, bloating, and a few times thought I saw some red stuff on my stool. The normal tests for colon cancer were done which came back clear (GP said I was getting haemorrhoids due to my diet).

Shortly after this, around March 2021 I got a viral cold and a new set of symptoms occurred which were positional headaches, tinnitus, head pressure, dizziness, nausea and brain fog. Again, I went to my GP and was prescribed some nasal sprays which were not effective. I was then referred to an ENT because the symptoms were just not going away. The interesting thing with these was I would mainly get them when I was in a seated position – if I was standing up or moving around I would not get any symptoms (same with the urine issues). The ENT performed an MRI on my brain and TMJ, CT scan of my sinuses, nasal endoscopy, hearing test, ear pressure test – all came back normal. Lastly the ENT did a blood test for allergies and said I was allergic to dust mites and pets and that’s what was most likely causing my symptoms. She prescribed me Avamys nasal spray and basically said that’s all she can do. I always found
