I'm a programmer with a interest in bioengineering and bioinformatics, and a background in computer engineering.
As I learn more about the way integrated circuits are constructed, and the way they operate, and the way that biochemistry is conducted within cells, I'm starting to see a few parallels in the way that charges are transferred, and the role played by electromagnetism. The scales are pretty close: Intel now produces excellent transistors as small as 7nm, while proteins seem to be about that large in diameter. And while the mechanics couldn't be more different if you tried (if your transistor ions are flowing, you're not going to have a transistor in the very near future), maybe we're at a point where a discussion about some of this stuff can be had rooted in science and real ongoing research, instead of science fiction.
By the way, I bolded specific questions I have for ease of reading.
To be clear, I have no idea what I'm doing. I have zero background in nanofabrication, and primarily deal with software. I've barely even read any literature on the topic (gathering a reading list is half of why I posted this thread) But my hope is that I can attract some people who have that background, and learn something from the discussion.
That said, I'll try to gather a few resources that helped me better picture the options nanotechnology would have for interacting with chemical reactions. I can't really do the same for biochemistry, since I don't have a foundation in chemistry to draw on like I do with electrical engineering. getting a picture of the enzymes, chemistries, and interactions of interest is another reason for this post.
I have recently read The Cuckoo's Egg: Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage, where the author opened my eyes to the following:
Software diversity is like biological diversity, a virus that infects windows machines wonβt work in linux/mac
The exploit mentioned in the book is comparable to the reproduction cycle of a cuckoo
Many computer programs has biological names like βvirusβ and βwormβ and behave like those organisms, reproducing and trying to survive
You can use biology to make a comparison with almost every computer interaction and vice versa
Why is that?
When I am with people I get a boost of oxytocin and can feel my mood improving. Even if we arenβt doing anything, just their presence improves my wellbeing. Iβve been single all 28 years of my life but how do I accept being aromantic while also wanting a partner. I wonder if thatβs a hard sell to someone.
When I was 2 and my sister had just turned 1 my father got arrested for reasons my mother had never explained to us. She wanted to make sure we didnβt have a bad image of what type of person he was and always allowed us to contact him if we chose to. We would occasionally go visit him on weekends with the help of my aunt up until he was deported.
Flash forward roughly 12 years and Iβm now a senior about to graduate college. As I had not heard from him in years, I decided to look him up on Facebook and let him know I was graduating (figured heβd be surprised as he never made it past the 4th grade). After rushing me on my experiences he begins to get mad and asks why I didnβt contact him sooner. I told him I was sorry and that it always bothered me that I didnβt and I wanted to make it right (even though he has always had my moms number to contact us). He begins to say I could make it up to him by sending him money.
I decide to send him the last $50 i earned from tips as a part time delivery driver. I use the directions he gave me to wire the money through a company. Spent an hour and a half driving to the place only to find out that they only make international transfers with a specific country (not where my dad was located). I messaged him saying that I was unable to do it there and if he had another company I could wire it through or maybe even a bank. He then proceeds to call me a liar and say Iβm ungrateful and should be lucky that he gave me the opportunity to talk to him and send him money. He said I should find a way to send the money and send him more for being incompetent.
Blocked him after that bc Iβm nice, but definitely not nice enough to be accused and cursed at by someone whoβs given me nothing in life except psoriasis
TL:DR Deadbeat father got arrested when my sister and I were very young and felt no need to contact us. Find him on Facebook to let him know Iβm graduating college only for him to ask for money and get mad when the company he told me to go to, couldnβt process it.
Edit: as it seems to bother some. I was around 7 or 8 when I last visited. A year or so after that he was release and deported. 12 years after that is when I wanted to contact him. I did not graduate college at 14 :)
Put another way: is one born with the trait or could a non-sociopath develop the 'condition'.
Apologies for any incorrect use of terminology.
