Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer (cutaneous malignant melanoma), because the country has high UV radiation (it's very sunny) and the population is migrant population of predominantly people of Western European descent (low pigment).

The UV index in northern provinces of Vietnam is expected to rise to unhealthy levels during the next few days, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. It also warned the unusually high ultraviolet (UV) radiation is likely to last through the first half of this week.

I accidentally entered into a UV light radiation room

I accidentally entered into a changing room which was turned into a UV light room for sanitising clothes. I stayed in there for a few minutes and tried on clothes and didn’t realise it was not a normal changing room until I came out and looked at the sign. I asked the people working there about this and they told me not to worry about it, but I’m scared. I know there’s nothing I can do about it now but am I going to be fine?

This happened 6 months ago. I suddenly got reminded of this and got anxious. I tried to do some research and found out that these sanitisation rooms use UVC light. I hope the people here on this subreddit would know about the cancer related risk of UVC. The Internet just confused me.

The shorter the wavelength, the more harmful the Ultraviolet radiation. UVC radiation is the highest energy portion of the UV radiation spectrum. UVC radiation from the sun does not reach the earth's surface because it is blocked by the ozone layer in the atmosphere.

Does UV radiation damage non-UV emitters?

Hi, I hope you’re all well!

I never see this discussed, but how do non-UV emitters handle being exposed to UV radiation?

Do they yellow up like untreated polycarbonate?

What are, for example, XP-L Hi,Β XHP, E21a, etc emitters actually made out of? I have failed to find this β€œelusive” info for some reason.

How careful do I have to be with my lights and UV exposure? Being picky about beam equality, I’d hate to rapidly degrade the emitters on lights with no replaceable optic to protect them when the inevitable UV exposure occurs.

[PC] [late 90s / early 00s] Weird Adventure-Game with an egyptian-style monolith, aliens and it was dangerous to go outside because of UV-Radiation. Possibly an advertising game from a company that makes glasses

Platform(s): PC

Genre: First Person Adventure (Myst-like)

Estimated year of release: late 90s / early 2000s

Graphics/art style: Realistic, possibly pre-rendered Graphics

Notable characters: A guy who wants to trade your sunglasses for another pair

Notable gameplay mechanics: Typical adventure stuff

Other details: I'm pretty sure this was some sort of advertising game, like for example Moorhuhn (Crazy Chicken in english) was an ad for Johnnie Walker whisky. The company probably made glasses (maybe it was polaroid?) because I remember that glasses were central point. There was a shady guy in some sort of underground club who wanted to trade your glasses for another pair and if you did, you'd die when you try to go outside.

There is not much about this game I remember because I played it as a kid and it did not make much sense to me. However it's nagging me that I can't seem to find anything about it or even other people that even remember this game

Some more things I remember:

  • some sort of club where, if you go in it's game over and the message said something about "getting lost in the beat"

  • you never really saw the aliens, but I think they were referenced in the dialogue

edit:

I looked up other games I played in this time and there were a few TKKG games that were released in 97. So I think the time period is from around 96-99. I don't think the PS2 was released yet so it must be before 2001
