Totemist ancestors not giving correct bonuses

I currently have a slot in my ancestors with a [?] and no bonus provided that was supposed to be a 'strict' ancestor giving a discipline buff. I also seem to have no way to remove him. I've still got slots open so its not a huge issue yet but am I going to be stuck with this dead slot in my faith for the rest of this campaign?

Despite picking up ancestor traits with -% tech cost, there isn't any effect on my tech cost and I managed to get 0 shock generals despite having two ancestor traits giving me +1 shock pips.

Can anyone else check if this is a common problem with the update? I'm yet to find any evidence the religion does anything at all.

The Totemist

A few months ago, I created this class. It uses an alternate take on meldshaping, adapted for use in 5e. I hoped to someday expand to recreate other meldshaping classes, but other projects have occupied my time, so I'm sharing this one now and may come back to those later.

Without further adieu, may I present the Totemist, posted with full preview and pay-what-you-want at DMsGuild.

https://www.dmsguild.com/product/323890/Class-the-Totemist

Totemists, much like druids and rangers, draw on the power of nature, but rather than working spells with the aid of spirits or nature deities, they draw on the essential concept of wild creatures, especially beasts and monstrosities. Shaping these essences into objects which can be worn on their person allows totemists to draw on the powers of the creature it was based on, or even abstract powers based on what that creature represents.

Objects created by a totemist are imbued with a magical energy, called essentia by some. Essentia produces a resonating effect; a totemist can infuse an object with essentia from their own spirit to call on deeper powers temporarily, and essentia so infused causes the object to be more powerful for a time.

1200 Dev nation wants to convert from Totemist to Protestant. What's the best way?

Hi everyone.

As the title says - I was planning to convert from Totemist to Protestant as Cherokee, but I kind of waited a bit too long. My nation is now 1.2k dev big, mostly low dev territories, spreading from Lake Superior to the coast of Chile. The year is 1598, my ideas are Expansion Exploration Quantity (colonial combo) and I have a free idea slot.

The plan I have right now is to get a Protestant province, raise a Zealot revolt, and take Religious. The rebels will convert things for me while I go about filling out the Religious idea; when I have at least up to idea 3, I'd flip by decision. Is this the best way to go about it? It'll mean I lose a ton of paper mana to stability (-3 stab with low religious unity SUCKS), I'll probably have a ton of nationalist/pagan rebels, a good chunk of my empire will be Devastated for a century, and I'd much rather have Economic or Administrative for my idea 4.

My main two questions for this are: 1) is this the best way to go about converting my large Totemist Empire? And 2) is this even worth it in the first place? I was wondering if I should just stay Totemist until 1821 now.

My goals for this game are modest (I want the No Trail of Tears achieve, which should be very easy, and I want to kick all colonial nations out of the US and Mexico... And that's kind of it) so I should be able to achieve all my aims as Prot or Tot. I'm just wondering what would be more beneficial, and fun, and cool.

I'd love to hear the thoughts of the community on this. I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you!!

Snow Elf Totemists and Nedic Bed Buddies; Or How Ysgramor Stole Everything

"The dragons came to tamriel with the nords, so the falmer didn't really have a lot of time to interact with them." -V1ru_5

"When Ysgramor arrived in Skyrim in the late Merethic he brought the worship of Dragons with him..." -BrynjarIsenbana

I'm going to lob a missile or two at this very Teslorian way of viewing dragons, and go a bit deeper and wider yet:

Ysgramor, far from being a cultural/religious innovator in Skyrim, largely subsumed what he and his 500 companions discovered as they returned to its northern shores. This essay (which I will post in two installments) is a Skyrim Theory of Everything, so buckle up and settle in for a good read.

I. The First Men

Before I begin, a little background context from A Children’s Anuad. This particular creation myth sufficiently captures the mythological setting of Skyrim’s primordial inhabitants (and Esbern insisted on having his copy with him when he fled Riften, so you know it's good):

β€œOther Ehlnofey arrived on Nirn scattered amid the confused jumble of the shattered worlds, wandering and finding each other over the years. Eventually, the wandering Ehlnofey found the hidden land of Old Ehlnofey, and were amazed and joyful to find their kin living amid the splendor of ages past. The wandering Ehlnofey expected to be welcomed into the peaceful realm, but the Old Ehlnofey looked on them as degenerates, fallen from their former glory. For whatever reason, war broke out, and raged across the whole of Nirn. The Old Ehlnofey retained their ancient power and knowledge, but the Wanderers were more numerous, and toughened by their long struggle to survive on Nirn. This war reshaped the face of Nirn, sinking much of the land beneath new oceans, and leaving the lands as we know them (Tamriel, Akavir, Atmora, and Yokuda). The Old Ehlnofey realm, although ruined, became Tamriel.”

Men had a crucial part to play in the formation of Tamriel as we know it, and that long before Ysgramor arrived on its northern shores. The Anuad preserves vivid memories of a unified attempt on the part of the Wandering Elhnofey (men) to co-exist peacefully with the Elves in the land. I call this original presence of men in Tamriel the First Nedic civilization; a culture which survived the Dawn Era Ehlnofic wars before losing itself in a series of continental diasporas. Distant memories of this original settlement are enshrined in Nordic myth and legend:

My idea on Totemist

Totemist, as you know is religion in EU4 that, albeit having a lot of worshipers, whole NA, besides Mexico, does not have any kind of religious mechanics. What I created is a mechanic for them, that uses some things from Protestant, but is quite diffrent. Here is image on Imgur. The mechanic it self, is centered around building your very own totem. Here are basics:

  • You have to go from bottom to top

  • Each one of group consists of diffrent heads, represented as head of animals.

  • To unlock a place for head you need to do something and thus:

    • To unlock the bottom one, you need to be at peace for at least 3/4 years. You pay for it 25 ADM mana. Abilites here will be centered about economics.

    • To unlock the middle one, you need to win 2 battles in one war, or win 4 battles overall. You pay for it 25 MIL mana. Abilites here will be centered about warfare.

    • To unlock the top one, your ruler needs to rule 10 - 15 years. You pay for it 25 DIP mana. Abilites here will be very powerful.

  • After purchasing the spot, you can choose one of the animal spirits, that also cost mana. Type of mana you pay depends on the animal. For example in bottom one, centered about economics, there will be option to pick animal that gives you lower infantry cost, thus it costs MIL points.

  • After your ruler dies, you lose top one and middle one. If your ruler dies while at war, you also lose the bottom one.

  • You can delete one of abilities at any time, but you must start from your top one spot, currently unlocked.

  • After you finish totem, you gain + 1 mana. Type of it depends on what type of animal (adm mana, dip mana or mil mana) you have the most. If your totem is balanced, you instead gain large ammount of prestige over time (+3 I think)

That's all I think! You have my great thanks, if you read through it. Any questions are welcome. Oh, and sorry for the chaotic way this is written in. English is not my best language!

[noob] Totemist heir

I am playing as Huron and I just westernized.

I've read what is available online: lots of stuff on how to get to get to westernization, not so much for afterwards.

For now, I have decided to stay totemist and not go Christian for three reasons: 1. I have a saved file in case I fuck up 2. YOLO 3. (the most important) I'm playing at very easy so I might actually survive the European onslaught.

My major concern so far is what happens with royal marriages and heirs so I have 0 RMs. For now, the game gave me on its own a royal consort from one of my provinces and a heir - is there any chance of this happening again?

Other than that, there are not many choices - France, the only European nation I can see, gives me -1000 negative opinion modifier (I was surprised - I thought I would get "their religion does not allow marriages with non-Christians" or sthg). The other totemist nations (no more than 8-10 left) have not westernized, and some Central and South American nations do not accept marriage for now but the score is not too bad, in the minus 30-40 range (ie it looks like totemists can marry other non-Christian religions in principle).

tldr: how do totemists hit a home run to save their dynasty? Is it possible to marry into any religion?

The Indigon Chaos totemist - Soulrend and Essence drain totem hit damage build

I'm working on a heirophant build that only partially uses Indigon for a bit of extra spell damage, and a nice MOM with all the mana regen, but less than a pure Indigon build. I focus on a bit of crit compared to a tradtional Indigon build

I will post in more detail as the build comes together and maybe a vid, but so far it's working really nicely

I use Apep's rage and can use Shimmeron Wands as well, 1-2 or a combo of both. For that extra base damage for the hit

I originally was focusing on Soul Rend totems with wither on multi totem for 6-7 totems for all that life and mana regen. You put down 2 wither totems and then spam your Soulrend totems, plus despair curse

Later I tried the Rotting jewel with Blight/Vaal blight in a 4 link in place of wither totems, and that's is working well and an extra source of hinder and damage, plus the wither effect - either INC Duration or faster casting works as a 4th link to reach max wither stacks

Then tried essence drain in place of soul rend, and with chain it clears maps just fine, plus 2 extra Projectiles from Rain of splinters! :p

Seems memey but it's legit! :)

lv 14 ED already blowing through tier 3 maps with ease, and handles max packs of memories just as well as Soul rend. I swap the chain for void manipulation on bosses. Using contagin in place of the blight totem is an option, the same 1-2 totem drops to get out max totems.

if I need more boss punch Dark pact is a 2 gem swap. Should be good for 3 million Shaper DPS, or 4-5 million with skeles.

Ice spear also does nice work, or any other spell you can try. I tried a bunch of spells like spark with the nova jewel and that also worked really well with this build, and flameblast just nukes with a potential 700-800k hit later on, as does divine ire

The hardest thing is over capping your resists for all the Soul Mantle curse....

With so many uniques, I had to resort to purity of elements and jewels. Lucky the Watchers Eye I use adds 25% mana recovery and 8% of physical taken as lightning when you use Clarity and Purity of elements :)

added video of Un'ID tier 4 Port map, as I work up the atlas :)

The Totemist class - released on DMs Guild!

Hey everyone! This is a class I've had on the backburner for a while as I've worked on it, but I'm putting it into release today. It's the totemist class, which has gone through a ton of changes at this point as I posted various incarnations on UA and DnDHomebrew, but I feel like it's in a really good place now.

The tl;dr is that the class summons large wooden statues (referred to as idols) that affect the area around them, according to what kind of idol it is. For example, idols can perform feats like redirecting damage away from allies, turning the area into difficult terrain, filling with fog that you and your allies can see through, and so on.

This is not a conversion of the 3.5 totemist class; this class has nothing to do with that one. However, I felt that the name was the most appropriate name, so I decided to go with it.

The PDF is pay what you want, so feel free to just grab it for free, and please let me know if you have any comments/critique/suggestions or anything, I'm always working on stuff and I just want to make my stuff the best it can be.

Thanks to everyone who helped shape the class! There's an extensive credits list at the end of the document.

[3,5]Totemist (magic of Incarnum): need help.

Now I realise that Incarnum might not be known by many people, but if some of you know about it I'd appreciate the help greatly.

I'm playing 3,5 after a 5 year stop, so I kind of forgotten everything about feats and special features I can use to make a good character. I play a gestalt Totemist / Incarnate (yeah not really my choice, it was randomly chosen for me) and I'm looking for advice on how to make this work.

Should I take soulmelds to buff me up while I wield a 2handed big-ass sword with power-attack, or should I focus on the totemist "natural weapons"?

My stats are 15-15-14-14-10-11 (rolled: 4d6 drop lowest), and I'm playing an Azurin.

I'm gonna drown in essentia and I probably will have more access to soulmelds than I can actually shape because of my "low" constitution, so I'm looking for feats and soulmelds I should synergyse with.
