A list of puns related to "Thenar"
40 male and have been browsing this subreddit a couple of weeks now. As a background I would say that I have been in the past diagnosed with medical anxiety. My father died of a malignant brain tumor when he was 40 and I was 15. About 10 years ago my eyelid began twitching and after a year my PCP sent me to have an MRI to rule out anything serious and put me on a low dose antidepressant which resolved the eye twitch. But during that time I had also gone down the rabbit hole and noticed that Iβm prone, at times, to twitches all over.
In early to middle December I began experiencing some twitching in my palm below my thumb. From this forum I have learned the Thenar region. I tried not to think too much about it. Going through some personal issues, hadnβt been sleeping, or eating right, and depression. Well I could only hold off consulting Dr. Google for so long and soon found myself once again down the rabbit hole, which has only increased my twitching and made it more widespread.
Iβm giving myself to the end of January and if things arenβt resolving Iβll go back to my PCP to address the twitching. My questions are has anyone else had a βhot spotβ in their Thenar? I know that the big bad is a disease of clinical weakness and I have as a result of this anxiety started lifting weights again for the last two weeks. I canβt see any weakness lifting, but I know that doesnβt necessarily put me in the clear. No signs of atrophy, my hands look quite similar. If I stare at them a ton I can point out differences, but I have to remind myself that one hand is dominant.
Overall guess just looking for some reassurances. Anxiety is a bitch. Thanks!
Hello Redditors among the Handwriting Community,
Over the last few years, I have developed some pain while handwriting or taking notes and it is exclusively in the region underneath the thumb (palmar region). I have researched that this area is known as the thenar eminence when inflamed (or in pain). Any suggestions on how to relieve this hand pain will be greatly appreciated. I know that there are 'hand rollers' (palm massagers, etc.) and things of that nature on Amazon that I could buy.
I will attach some pictures here of how I hold the grip with my thumb and index finger. Lately, I have also tried to switch up my grip a little bit by resting the writing instrument more on my middle finger top portion.
My hand pain is specifically under the thumb area (radiates down the thenar eminence).
Any suggestions for relief of hand pain are welcomed.
Thank you.

Trying to have the pencil (or pen) resting more on my middle finger to alleviate pain
my left thenar looks smaller compared to right dominant one, also when i make the OK sign dominant thenar feels rock solid while left one feels soft, is it sign of atrophy on the left thenar or just completely my imagination?
Anxiety taking over again this a long with twitching is freaking me out it may be normal just wondering Iβve undergone a lot of weight loss and noticing a lot of new things about my body https://imgur.com/a/BTLaNCz
For a few days now Iβve had a dull soreness in my left thenar hand muscle. Also feels like I canβt move my thumb as fast on my left hand than on my right. But I looked in the mirror and looked at both thumbs moving and it looks like theyβre moving the same speed??? What gives, this is really stressing me (21M) out
Most of the twitches I've been having are ones I can feel but not see in my right/left calf (right mostly, I'd say 70%+ of the twitches I can feel are there), as well as my flank on both sides, shoulders, and cheek/jaw. This area on my left hand was one where the first twitches began (I could feel them then, and they were the rare persistent twitch), but hasn't showed up for over a month. Now it is a crawling twitch I can instigate at anytime by contracting, then relaxing the muscle and it just goes off. I can't feel it at all, and it attempts to wag my left index finger slightly as well.
The muscle is smaller than my right hand, but still prominent, and my wife has the same disproportion as well between left and right hand. I can't recognize any weakness, but I'm not a clinician that can evaluate weakness. I'd like to know if anyone in here has anything like this. I can also instigate it by having my hand at rest, the lift my index finger up slightly. This does not happen in any of the ways I instigate it on my right hand. Not even a little.
22/m Currently stressed about a sudden dent in my right thenar muscle. Iβm not sure how to post images. If someone can let me know how to do that that would be great.
Been having most of my symptons on my left side, like pain, perceived weakness, tremor and most of my twitching.
Hi all, about two weeks ago I noticed a very new dent in my hands. I noticed about two months ago I was having weakness in my hands but chalked it up to working from home and sitting incorrectly while working. I don't have hand failure, but typing does feel more difficult and my hands (both) feel weaker. I have attached photos flexed and unflexed. What do you think, does it look like *** atrophy? I am also a twitcher, but I twitch all over.

As the title says, my thenar eminence gets tired really quickly which means I can't do songs above 1:30 minutes. Anything longer and my aim becomes shaky. An example of what I feel during overuse of it is like writing a long essay for a long period of time with a pen or pencil. Basically I get the same feeling as using a pencil for a long time but it's much quicker. It sucks because I get discouraged really quickly. I just switched to tablet around a couple weeks ago if that helps.
So...it started...another place that didn't twitched before now started...my thenar eminence. Someone else got twitches there?? Really scared rn
Does anyone with BFS get twitches in thenar muscles just below thumbs? I also have some pain there getting worried.
Back in June I had sudden weakness in my right hand. Suffered CT for years but in June I did major back and front yard work.
Went to doctor, got Oral steroids and swelling reducing meds. Although the pain stopped, the weakness in thumb area still present. Got EMG and confirmed Carpal and Cubital Tunnel.
So Thenar muscle was only weak for 3 months total (difficulty buttoning shirt) and hoping that the Thenar muscle will make its way back. Anyone with similar or past issue?

Does anyone else have different sized thenar muscles? I don't have any weakness, my left thumb just feels odd and stiff. I started with leg muscle spasms at night in September but those have since died down or gone away. I started calf/thigh twitching in December, then my thumb started end of December with shakiness and less coordination. This got better but I had twitching everywhere (feet, calves, thighs, butt, lower back, area between gut and groin, shoulders, elbow, arms, eyelid, jaw and forehead. I've the whole slew of tests including and EMG in mid December which was clean. It was conducted on my legs and lower back (didn't have noticeable twitches then) and his exact words were "I don't see anything alarming" and then my neuro who referred me said the test results were "completely normal".
My thumb healed up (or so I thought) until the end of January I had a repeat of the previous issue. To be honest with you all, its been a rough time for me the past week. I had a major panic attack on my drive to work yesterday because my left index finger would lock up after straightening it out and bending it in 40 times (shocker right). Since then, I can't seem to get out of my head about my thumb. *** fears keep wracking my thoughts. I hate to be a constant poster on here I just fear the worst, like everyone else. No official diagnosis yet on anything; I have a follow up appointment with the neuro who did my EMG in April. I can't seem to get past my clean neuro and no weakness and keep thinking that this odd feeling in my left thumb is just the beginning of ***.
I honestly had no intention of laying everything out again. I just wanted to see if anyone has had similar symptoms and if their thenar muscles are different sizes. Also, has anyone heard of full on spasms being a beginning of ***? Thank you for hearing me out.
The muscle bulges out on the palm side when I stretch all my fingers out on my left hand but not on my right. Anyone else get this or think itβs worrisome? I donβt know how to post a picture on here it seems to only allow text...
Do you have issues to remember doing reality checks? Do you find it awkward to be fingering your palm and pinching your nose in public? Or you simply want to double the amount of reality checks you already do during the day in a seamless but effective way?
This technique may be for you. And it's as simple as keeping a dream journal and 1 pointy fingernail (preferably the middle one)
In simple terms, every time you enter a new room, place, street, building, etc, just go ahead and start poking your thenar (the area of the palm below the thumb)
When doing so ask yourself if you are dreaming and stop poking until you counsuously answer this question. And no, the poking is not an excuse to go "yeah yeah am not dreaming!!" mindlessly, but an invitation from your brain to actually evaluate reality for a second.
The dream journal also plays an important part. We all have patterns in our dreams and if you got a journal you may have noticed about them already.
Most of my dreams are (apart from weird stuff) sexy people, delicious food, video games, extravagant buildings and my coworkers and, you guess it, I poke my thenar every time I see or encounter one of these patterns during the day. Seamlessly checking if I'm dreaming or not.
Again, strictly important to keep poking until you can consciously answer yourself if you are dreaming or not.
After some time you will be poking your thenar in your dreams, which will result in one or some of these possibilities:
-Discovering that your finger goes through your thenar.
-Feeling the poking sensation in a different/strange way.
-Depending on your sleeping behaviors, you will poke your thenar in real life giving you a subtle sensation in your dream, which you have taught your brain to associate with dreams.
-Simply asking yourself if you are dreaming as you have teach yourself to wonder about all these patterns you encounter everyday by conditioning them to a physical sensation. In other words, you will wonder if you are dreaming if you feel something but you'll also do it if you don't.
Something nice about this technique is that you don't need to depend on looking at your hands, specially because in my personal experience I don't have recollection of a hand in any of my dreams (specially mine)
Try it and share your results!
Freaking out here. I just compared my both hands, the thenar muscle under the thumb of my left hand is noticeably smaller than the right hand. Never noticed or compared before. Anyone?
