> Before the Sixers took on the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, a game in which Embiid had 34 points in a road win for the Sixers, Nets coach Steve Nash was asked to compare Embiid to anybody he has seen before. Nash could not come up with a comparison for the big fella.
>βHeβs pretty unique,β Nash acknowledged. βYou can make comparisons, but really his size, the way he plays, moves, and scores in the mid range is very unique and unique. He can dominate at both ends and weβve seen lots of dominant centers on both ends, but probably not a ton with his size, strength, mobility, and shotmaking.β
High praise from one of the NBAβs best, and heβs seen plenty of great big men over his whole career.
>Steve Nash on Kyrie Irving: "I think we recognize heβs not playing home games. Weβre going to have to for sure play without him this year. So it just depends on when, where and how much."
>Steve Nash said thereβs been positive news on the Millsap front, but still doesnβt have a timetable.
>Steve Nash said James Harden has unfairly become the poster child of some of these rule changes with non-basketball moves. Said heβs still getting fouled, but feels the refs are hyper-aware with them when Harden has the ball. Harden has shot just nine free throws all season.
>James Harden on whether he's the 'poster boy' for the rule changes: "Yeah for sure," says Harden. But he's gotta keep playing, he explains.
>Steve Nash said he didn't listen to Kyrie Irving's IG Live and is done talking about him.
>Steve Nash on Kyrie: "I didnt really listen to it. And I think I've pretty much said everything I have to say about it. If something changes, we can talk about it; but I really want to focus on moving forward and our group and solutions to the challenge ahead of us."
>Nash on Nets championship odds without Kyrie Irving: "I think we still have a very high potential."
>Nash on the Nets without Kyrie Irving: "When you lose an exceptional talent like that, your roster is built under the certain parameters of having 3 guys, so everybody has to slide up a spot."

> Steve Nash said heβs saddened and disappointed to hear the reports regarding #Suns owner Robert Sarver. When asked if he experienced that in Phoenix, his one word answer was βNo.β > > Steve Nash on Suns owner Robert Sarver: βIt was sad to read. That hasn't been my experience with Robert. But I'm obviously very sensitive to those type of situations. So disappointing that that's out there.β
> Asked if Nets have to operate as if Kyrie will not return, Steve Nash: βWe just focus on our group and getting better every single day and if we get the gift of his return, weβll be ecstatic but we canβt count on it. We canβt wait for him. We have to get to work, and get betterβ > > ----- > > Kevin Durant on playing for first-time head coach Steve Nash > : βI feel like he handled it great and learned, βcause itβs much more than Xβs and Oβs. Itβs personalities, itβs training staff. That's a lot to deal with as a coach.β
Nic Claxton said once the #Nets get Kyrie Irving back "it's going to break the game for us." > Both made their name in Phoenix, Nash as a Sun and Harden at nearby Arizona State, but in Brooklyn, they quickly found common ground. Both won MVPs under DβAntoni. Both are minority owners in Major League Soccer teams, Harden with the Houston Dynamo and Nash with the Vancouver Whitecaps. > > On the court, they process the game quickly. Both have led their team to the top of the Western Conference only to fall short in the playoffs undone by injuries or dynasties. Both possess a feel for which other playersβ games fit with theirs and which do not. In Houston, former Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson said Harden coached the team as much as the staff. Thatβs reminiscent of Dick Davey, Nashβs college coach at Santa Clara, who once said, βI was the head coach. But Steve did as much coaching as I did.β > > βWe are twins,β Harden said. βWeβre just different colors.β > > But even twins have their own distinctions. Hardenβs beard rivals Santaβs, while Nashβs face is as scruffless as a New York Yankee. And as Nash alluded to, Harden (6-5, 220) is built like a linebacker, while he (6-3, 178) looks more like a shortstop. > > But when they are together, Harden said theyβve found each other to be subconsciously on the same page. As they say, twins share a brain. Harden was on a road trip with the Nets last May when Nash had a team film session. It stuck with Harden the rest of the day. He called Nash that night to talk it over, only to discover his coach was still pondering the film session. They talked about it for 15 to 20 minutes, and Harden said the calls continued into the offseason. > > βHe sees the game at a different level,β Harden said of Nash. βLike summertime, he calls me, I call him and weβre just talking about how can we be better. He just has that constant communication with me like I know you saw this, but maybe look at this next time. Just things like that to where somebody has a second eye all the time of whatβs going on and things that I can do better, and ultimately, thatβs going to better our team.β
After Durant played 41 minutes tonight against the Mavericks I wanted to check just how much heβs playing per game. According to bbref, Durant is actually averaging the 6th most minutes played per game at 36.0 minutes, while James Harden holds the 10th spot with 35.7. Whatβs even crazier is that this actually marks as the 7th highest season in minutes played per game for Durant, with it being the highest since his penultimate season with the Thunder. When asked about how much he was playing his stars, Nash reasoned by saying that his choices were to either loss or play Durant high minutes. I guess Iβm just wondering if in a league where stars typically sit on back to backs, why it seems that Durant and Harden are playing 3 full quarters of basketball each night? Shouldnβt he just take the losses instead of risk an injury to his 30+ year old players?
Edit: it does look like Kevin Durant is out tonight 12.8 https://twitter.com/thesteinline/status/1468651214082613262?s=21
Two-time NBA MVP and current Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash was asked about his thoughts on Curry closing in on Ray Allen as the NBAβs all-time leader in 3-pointers made.
And Nash had some fun with his response.
βWhen I first started playing against [Curry] there might have been a little bit of big-brother-little-brother where I felt like I had the upper hand,β Nash told reporters before the Nets-Houston Rockets game on Wednesday. βAnd by the time I was going out of the league, it was like I had no business being on the court with him.β
Curryβs six 3s against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night increased his total to 2,964 -- just 10 triples away from the throne.
Nash said he's impressed with how Curry's game has redefined the game of basketball.
βHe just took his game to another level comparative to everybody, historically to another level,β Nash continued. βThe way heβs able to accurately play this game with such crazy diversity. His ability to shoot and make plays in so many different ways with so much accuracy, and range, and dexterity, itβs almost we take it for granted because itβs now the new normal and heβs influenced other players and heβs still at the top of that list. But you know taking a step back, it is kind of still mind-boggling.β
Nash not only played against Curry on the court, but he also worked with him as a part-time player development consultant for Golden State in 2015. https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/warriors/steve-nash-humorously-praises-warriors-steph-curry-amid-3-point-record-hunt
> Nets coach Steve Nash said he spent time yesterday and today with close friend and former Mavs teammate Dirk Nowitzki. > > Whatβs he think about Dirkβs jersey retirement coming up? > > βIβm kind of tired of all the accolades, to be honest.β
>Steve Nash calls Luka Doncic βa combination of Dirk and a point guard.β
We're getting a huge influx of threads about Steve Nash all of the sudden clogging the sub, so please use this thread to do your venting for the next 24 hours.
Please and thank you.
>Steve Nash was asked about Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander calling himself βthe black Steve Nashβ in a GQ article this past summer. He saw it and made him laugh. Is proud of all the young talent Canada has produced in recent years. Nash has praised Lu Dort before, too.
>Steve Nash on the Thunder: βThis is a well coached, young team. They have a lot of belief and defend as a group. Offensively, thereβs a lot of freedom.β
Steve Nash and James Harden were really good before MDA coached them, but under him they got even better, especially Harden was arguably the best offensive player in the league for 2 seasons. Obviously he likes guards who can shoot, run the PnR and being able to abuse mismatches. Behind LeBron, James Harden was probably the best player in the league at forcing switches to get easy buckets in every way.
The most obvious answer for me would be Trae Young. Really good shooter, he has an excellent lob connection with Capela and Collins, and his isolation scoring is elite, with his floater he can either drive to the rim or just hunt a mismatch on the perimeter.
Who do you think are some other players here?
>Steve Nash said the Nets don't plan to move practice out of their Brooklyn facility, to say... Long Island or New Jersey, in order to get Irving able to join them. "This is our home, this is where we're going to practice."
>Steve Nash confirms that Kyrie Irving did not practice with the Nets today and wasnβt at the facility.
Lets try to keep this constructive. The man is getting a ton of hate right now but that wonβt really solve anything. So if you could give Nash 5 suggestions what would it be? Please share your thoughts.
I think these five suggestions will do alot to help us get out of our funk. Playing KD/Harden/Mills heavy minutes is really draining the team of energy. Harden isnβt able to play with pace if he is regularly playing 40-44 minutes a game.
Leaning into our offense and playing m
