TIL After WW1, the Treaty of Versailles forbade Germany from producing or purchasing weapons. In 1922, Soviet Russia opened 4 secret bases on its territory where Germans recreated its military power. Without the technical results of that cooperation, Hitler would have been unable to start WW2

"Barricade Days" is 31 years old. In those days, from January 13 to 27, 1991, the fighters for the independence of Latvia built barricades and repulsed the Soviet invaders, who were trying with all their might to keep Moscow's power over the country.

What type of power relations existed between the party and the soviets in the USSR?
What type of power relations existed between the party and the soviets in the USSR?
I know how soviet democracy worked, with the delegate system and how the soviets were basically the government / legislative body. But also how the CPSU practiced democratic centralism and made decisions regarding how the country was run; so Iβm pretty confused right now. Did the Soviets work as a sort of advisory councils for the party? Or did they actually govern the USSR? If they did in fact govern, then why does it look like the party made pretty much all decisions? Iβve read before that the soviets pretty much became rubber stamp committees for decisions already made by the party, was that true? Please correct me if Iβm wrong on anything.

How did China compare in terms of power with the US, Britain and the Soviet Union in WW2?
Iβve seen Chiang Kai-Shek be included with the others as part of the βBig 4β but from what I understand, China was far from being as powerful as them.
The perception I have of Chiang Kai-Shekβs China is very limited industry (relying on the western powers for weapons/equipment) and an inability to control much of the country as they had to deal with Maoβs communists and various regional warlords.
Is this perception accurate and, if so, how could China have been considered part of the βBig 4β?

Early Soviet history is marked by the presence of several prominent women in positions of political power, but it seems like this changed after Stalinβs ascension to General Secretary. Is this actually the case?
Alternatively, was October 1918 just the high watermark for womenβs participation, that was eroded as much under Leninβs leadership as under Stalinβs.

If Marx said the state was supposed wither away after socialism, how come Communist States like the Soviet Union and the CCP retain its power despite only being temporary? Or are they doing it wrong.
I have a bit more better understanding of Communism since the last time I posted here so I wanna see what you guys think again.

In the movie Waterworld wouldn't the Soviet Union be the dominant global power?
Most Soviet vehicles have amphibious capabilities and can fire while floating. Soviets also said they would release a great tide upon the world so most troops would be ready and most Soviet buildings will float given the resolutions in quality control allowing for the greater rise in living standards. After that they can start rebuilding on ice floes in conditions that are essentially tropical compared to previous life in the depths of Siberia.

What if after VE Day in Europe the western powers invaded the Soviet Union?
Several Generals including Patton never made their hatred of the Soviets and Stalin a secret. There was talk unofficial of course of possibly rearming the now de nazified German military and pushing the Soviets back. So what would have the opening salvos of WW3 (or maybe itβd still be WW2)be like?
Would the US be more likely to use nukes freely? Would a land war in Russia be just as much of a failure as always or would a combined American, British and German army with nukes be enough to topple the Stalin regime?
