I'll try to avoid as much as possible the "I don't have money bla bla" because..I don't have them! It's a request/gift subreddit afterall, it would be totally useless to write paragraphs about these things soooo let's go ahead, shall we?. My request is Overwatch and I'll try to explain why I think it can rekindle my flame with gaming and, mostly important, WHAT is Overwatch!.

What's Overwatch?

Overwatch is an team-based first person shooter with a few elements of MMORPGs.

In game, Overwatch was an international taskforce formed by the U.N. to combat the Omnic Crisis thirty years before the events of the game. Originally composed of six founding members, Jack Morrison (Soldier 76), Gabriel Reyes (Reaper), Reinhardt Wilhelm, Ana Amari, Torbjorn Lindholm, and Liao. As champions of heroism, sacrifice, and nobility, they stopped the Omnic Crisis by destroying Omnic command and control protocols. Following this, it expanded to include members such as Lena Oxton (Tracer <3), Winston, Genji Shimada, Jesse McCree, and so on. It took on terrorist organizations like Talon and the Shimada clan, and pushed the boundaries of science.

However, tensions between Morrison and Reyes caused Overwatch to “split apart”. An explosion in the Swiss headquaters presumably caused by internal and external conflict killed both Morrison and Reyes, but they both resurfaced as Soldier 76 and Reaper, respectively. After, the Petras Act deemed all Overwatch actively illegal and disbanded the organization.

However, when the world was starting to fall into chaos again, with terrorist attacks from Talon, and a second Omnic Crisis happening, Overwatch was recalled by Winston.

How I got introduced to Overwatch and why do I want it?

I tried many games in the past months but unfortunately noone got my attention for more than 10 hours. RPG, JRPG, Action all KILLED by this new tendency to make everything Open World. I can't have fun anymore with games and I was actually thinking to quit with gaming. Then a friend sugggested me to try Overwatch and..I've got to say it didn't click immediately but Jesus Christ, after one day I was literally SHOCKED!. I felt again everything I was feeling playing games when I was a child: the adrenalise rush, the desire to win a match, the desire to make FRIENDS within match. I was impressed, I was immersed. Then the free weekend thing ended and yeah, my studies started again and bet

I got a first full time job after college in Portsmouth! I was originally excited to move but realized it's crazy expensive to live there. So I really need some help!!

1. House: originally I was planning to rent cheaply for a year until I find a house I like. But oh boy was I wrong. I cannot afford a house in decades. Can someone please tell me which town is cheap to rent?? (<30min drive from Portsmouth) I'm looking near UNH cause they're a bit cheaper than Portsmouth and easier to find roommates. Any areas I can look at?

2. Car: I don't have a car rn but I'm getting one after I move coz no sales tax. Do I really need AWD/4WD? FWD is generally cheaper and better efficiency. I'm not sure what's the best move. I've never lived/drove in snow.

3. Phone: my att plan is $30/month but I want to save some money. t-mobile or mint is only $15 but apparently t mobile isn't really good in NH? I haven't started my job but they need me to travel, dunno where but probably rural.

I got into the FromSoftware games a month or two ago when I managed to get my hands on a PS5 and bought Demon Souls as my first game after recommendations from my two brother's. They said to join the ranks of gaming Gods, one must beat the Nameless King and I thought Demon Souls was a perfect place to start.

I loved it. I had tried playing my brother's copy of DS3 a few years ago and put it back on the shelf after about 2 hours (sound familiar?). But once I had the awakening moment of how the game worked I was hooked with Demon Souls. I learned the art of learning an enemy's moves, especially bosses, rolling through attacks and mastering it. 10/10.

Next up was DS3. Now that I knew how these games "worked", I threw myself into DS3 and, again, loved it. I was dreading The Nameless King from when I had started Demon Souls, and had already started looking up strategies for what was to come. I found the Abyss Watchers and Dancer Of The Boreal Valley a real struggle, but an enjoyable struggle - something I will come back to later. Eventually the day came and I faced you know who. It took me... one hour! I couldn't believe it. My brothers were impressed. Hell, I even put it on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdNoBz7dJSE&feature=youtu.be). But there was still Soul of Cinder, who I was told was hard but apparently not as hard as Nameless King. But I struggled a LOT more with this guy. Eventually, I prevailed and beat the game. 10/10.

Now we move to Bloodborne. I thought it was the next logical step as I didn't plan on playing the other souls games (I have since changed my mind and will begin playing DS1 today - I hear DS2 isn't great but still might try it).

I was very disappointed. Please hear me out - it was still a worthwhile experience for me after playing Demon Souls and DS3. I had always read that Bloodborne was considered the "best" amongst these style of games by FromSoftware. I do not regret playing it but I was expecting it to be better. I will list my points of dissatisfaction here.

N.B: I know Bloodborne isn't a Souls game. It is meant to be different and I completely agree and understand that. However, despite not being a Souls game in name, it is still a game from FromSoftware and made from the same great brain of Miyazaki. Making a character to get all the miracles, I kept using a blue gem to turn human on 4.1 for the summons help (wanted to get adjucators shield and regenerators ring to help in swamp with poison dmg while I try getting my moonlight sword). Anywho, I died so much that the world is black and that samurai punk is 1 shotting me. My character is level 41, is there any kind soul (pun always intended) that could help me kill this bastard?

I mean seriously, the minute you neutralize the inside game people revert to zoning and footsies. I had a Shang Tsung irritate my soul(pun intended) cause he couldn't beat me on the inside, so he started using his rising flame/corpse drop obstacle course on me...

It seems like there’s been a lot of talk on this subreddit about souls-like games to scratch that itch while we wait for Elden Ring news. Most recently with Mortal Shell coming out yesterday. Games like Nioh, Blasphemous, Code Vein, Surge, Hollow Knight and Remnant get mentioned often on this sub. However I’ve seen very few people suggest the Monster Hunter series.

Now these are not souls-like games in terms of progression and atmosphere in a traditional sense because the first monster hunter game predates Demon Souls (it could be argued demon souls copied some elements from Monster Hunter). However the slow and deliberate combat with a focus on rolling and rpg elements feel similar.

Basically Monster Hunter is a series about hunting Midir and Kalameet like bosses over and over again, the games are just one amazing boss fight after another.

It’s not a “Souls-like” in a traditional sense but if you enjoy the boss fights of the souls games and the pve combat then I promise you Monster Hunter will hit all the right spots. People just don’t think of it as a souls like since it isn’t just trying to copy the Soulsborne genre like other Souls-likes, it’s a different thing but it totally feels like it has that soul (pun intended)

If ur not sold on this concept, imagine the best Souls bosses the series has to offer but give them much smarter AI and the ability to move around an open world with a dynamic environment and you’ve got a typical hunt in monster hunter. The weapons are all intricate and complex and make bloodborne’s trick weapons look super simple by comparison.

Monster Hunter is much more light hearted than most Souls-likes (you get a talking cat companion) but the game takes its bosses very seriously and they have some amazing designs.

The main things that turn people away from MH is the fact that the games can be grindy and super long. You can sink thousands of ours into the games and the loop of killing a monster and using its parts to make stronger items is addictive but can be grindy. Also the games are hard. Like really REALLY hard. The post game hunts make Souls boss fights look like a joke. Especially in the older MH games.

With the open world elements I can only hope Elden Ring tries to match the quality of the Monster Hunter boss fights.

Fake leakers here are getting really uncreative and just reusing information from other leaks from 4chan and repeating it with minor differences. Its getting very stale. I am expecting more from our fake leakers.

Please put more heart and soul(pun intended) into your fake leaks. A really good fake leak should make the reader feel certain that it might really be true. It should tease the audience and make them excited. But most leaks here are just plain boring and frankly on the annoying side. D+ for no effort.

Hope fake leakers get more creative and try making charts, drawings and puzzles to make the community interested again. Make fake leaks great again (MFLGA).

With only 2 terrans left in the ro12, it looks like Katowice will continue the long tradition of terran players being underrepresented at pretty much all stages of the tournament. I wanted to understand why this happened again after what most people called the post-blizzcon patch, sarcastically or not, a #terranpatch. Let's look at the data.

For this post we will look at the 12 most notable terran players present at Katowice. 5 of them made it into the group stage, the other 7 lost in the 4 offline qualifiers. All 12 players shown here are in the top 60 of the global aligulac ranking (top 39 if you exclude Polt, which I did not).

First, let's see what happened to the 2 terrans who qualified for the ro12:

• Maru won all of his group stage matchs except vs Trap, a protoss player.
• Innovation won 3 of his 5 group stage matchs, losing only against Maru and Trap, a protoss player.

Now let's look at the 3 unfortunate terrans who got eliminated in the group stage.

• SpeCial went 2-3, 2 of his 3 losses came from Stats and Dear, 2 protoss players.
• Cure went 2-3, going 1-1 against protoss opponents.
• TY went 3-2, going 1-1 against protoss opponents. He got robbed by Hurricane despite beating him 2-0, but ESL are the only one at fault here, and it's not the point of this thread.

Finally, let's look at the 7 poor souls (pun intended) who failed to qualify for the group stage.

• Heromarine lost his winner bracket (WB) match against Patience, a protoss player, and his loser bracket (LB) match against Showtime, a protoss player.

I have been playing those video games since the early '80s. My grey whiskers and receding hairline have thought me to stay away from the twitchy games, like CS, I can hold my own, but as a competitive spirit, middling was never an option. For some reason, I was led to believe that DS was in that category. The other day, remastered was on sale for little more than pocket lint so I decided to pick it up.

I went in totally blind and here I stand a few hours in on a rooftop. My virtual butt has been beaten into the base elements of reality and I have a nagging suspicion that I somewhere down the line made a compact with Satan himself to never be bunched up by silly zombies again. But I am victorious, those pesky gargoyles bodies lie in ruin and my gleeful cackle is scaring both the cat and my wife. This .. THIS is the most fun I have had in .. well DECADES.

/u/DeadEyeDev asked me to post my thoughts about Season 5 when i posted about the Spike Buffy romance (I ended the episode early and missed that it was a Spike dream). I have only just started watching for the first time (a combination of it being on netflix and me looking for storytelling lessons for a graphic novel I'm co-writing). For those who are interested:

Dawn: I was kind of confused when she first showed up - wondered if I had missed talk of a sister before. I really enjoyed the reveal (when Buffy was in the trance-like state), I thought it was well done. I imagine she was added to the show to bring back a naive eye to the proceedings - the gang has been battling all kinds of crazy demons for so long that it has become been-there-done-that for them. We see just how crazy some of these situations are through Dawn's inexperienced eyes.

Riley: I feel like Buffy's feelings for him were a lot stronger in Season 4, and it seemed like Joss decided to cool her feelings in Season 5 so he would have a reason for his exit. I think that could have been handled a bit better.

The Watcher's Council - It never ceases to amaze me how bad the council seems to be. I think part of it comes down to their original purpose - they ahd a much smaller scope in season 1: they only really worried about vampires. Now that Buffy is regularly saving the world from demons/gods, it becomes clear that the council has crazy information/connections but seems to do nothing. We can obviously conjecture that they are doing a ton behind the scenes, but there are countless times where the crew needs info to save the world, and the council does nothing.

Episode 16 - The Body: Good god is this a powerful episode. Probably one of the best of any show I've eve seen.

Episode 19 - Tough Love: Tara calls out Willow for scaring her. Willow accuses Tara of not trusting her. I wanted to yell at Willow - How many times have you done something stupid because you arent fully in control of your powers? (summoning the troll, for example). It's not a question of trust - Tara trusts you to always try to stay within your limits and do the right thing. It's just that you are messing with things so far beyond the scope of your understanding, and you are running along blindly, messing with things you can't control. I predict that Tara's fears will be justified in future seasons.

I've bought my first bass and amp about 5 months back, since then the bass guitar has been my body and soul (pun intended). I've been studying music theory and been practicing almost daily since then not losing my drive. I've gained knowledge of scales, modes, chords etc. and overall fell in love with the instrument. I've recently invested furthermore in to my equipment so instead of Squier I bought a Yamaha BB434 and I am rocking on Fender Rumble 100.

About 2 months back we formed a band with my friends. Since I have biggest knowledge of music theory in the band I am usually creating the bass line as I please (I throw in some ideas and we agree on something and work it out) and then tell the guitarist what chords to play. The problem starts when the guitarist composes something and tells me the chords to play or if I practice at home to a backing track.

The thing I am not really sure of is whether if the guitarist plays for example a C major chord, do I have to play only the same notes he plays or can I play anything from C major scale or mode? I am unsure because it seems that when other bass players (especially from Jazz,Funk,Soul genres) are outlining chords, they use variety of notes and not just root, 3rd, 5th, oct (In case of maj chord). Is it just untrained ear or am I missing something?

What if there are really actual souls in it?

I present to you, the Souling, (or you can suggest a better name!)

Soulings are ghostly, glowing cube – shaped neutral mobs that spawn in the Soul Sand Valley biome at the Nether, and rarely spawns in the Overworld.

Here are the general stats:

• Health Points: 20 (10 hearts)
• Behavior: Neutral
• Attack Strength: 4
• Size: Height: 2.2 Blocks, Width: 1 Block
• Spawn: Soul Sand Valley, rarely spawn in the Overworld
• Drops: Soul Fragments
• Experience: 10

SPAWNING

Soulings spawn naturally in Soul Sand Valley biomes. In the Overworld, there is around 5% chance they’d spawn at night. And at some rare occurrence wherein right after a player kills any mob, there is a very small chance they’d instantly appear and spawn from the death of the mob, and then attack the player.

BEHAVIOR

Soulings, like Ghasts, float around the Soul Sand Valley and are usually found circling around the blue flames in the valley. They glow so they emit light, as strong as a torch. As they lurk, they gradually disappear in every 100 ticks (5 seconds), and then appears again. They only stay around the perimeters of the valley, and will avoid leaving the biome. As a neutral mob, it will not attack the player but once it is attacked, its eyes will turn red and its mouth will open, exposing the glowing core inside of it, and then attacks the player. If the player attempts to run away, it will chase the player, faster than a player’s normal running but equal to the speed of a sprinting player.

Also, at some chance if a souling is attacked, it will attempt to ‘possess’ the player, and put the player in a ‘possession effect’ in which the player won’t be able to control its body, and will move around randomly on its own for a few seconds.

When it is ‘killed’, it will have its own unique death animation wherein it will just slowly fade, and then leaves the drops and experience. (It’s because basically, they are already dead souls, in which it can’t die like any of the other mobs. But it will just disappear when defeated, as if it retreated and hid itself)

When in Overworld, they only roam around at night but when sunrise hits, it will despawn.

THE SOUL FRAGMENTS

Soul Fragments will be the main drop of the Souling. These drops can be used to craft a potion that will enable the player to phase through blocks and possess mobs!

Take a sip, you won't die.
The printing was alright, turned out more reddish than in the original, which is alright. The printing area was decidedly smaller than the one used by my usual mug printing service, which is a bummer. I'll probably print it again through an online service that offers previews and change a few things around.

I recently got DS3 for the PC (Ive been playing on the PS4, I only switched because I got tired of the finite respecs) I was wondering if any of you kind souls (pun intended) Could help me out with Hornet Ring, Ring of Favor, and Prisoners Chain? I want to take my time on this playthrough and grinding through the bosses at a fast pace seems like a killjoy. Also, what are the communities thoughts on twinking?

Hey guys, I wanted to post in this subreddit for some opinions and advice:

A long while ago I played Dark Souls 3 right after beating DS2:SoTFS (with 60+ hours into it), and while I was pretty jarred by the stuttering 30fps for a while since I loved the smoothness of SoTFS, I still enjoyed it quite a bit, up until I got to the freaking annoying swamp area. I'm sure that most people here would know the infamy of the swamp area with all of its enemies and status effects and stuff so I feel that I don't need to discuss this too much. I spent way too much time in that swamp trying to collect items, finding the sconces, and the usual dying. That place drained my soul (pun intended) to keep playing the game; it was boring, tedious, and it really didn't help that the frame rate was real crappy at most times during the swamp so I couldn't really respond well in battles. After finding the 3 sconces, that's where I took a long break from the game.

I don't know, I feel like I had more fun with DS2 despite the few nonsenses in that game in the long run. The 60fps actually feels needed to have fluid, in control fights in that game, but DS3 is not like that for me. I feel like I should play the game instead on a pc for 60fps but I don't really have a good pc to handle it. I seen so much DS3 gameplay on YouTube that it's still very entertaining to me, but not as much on console. What do you guys think? Should I just try to get back into it and proceed through DS3 with a not-so reliable frame rate?

Hello! I'm currently 20 years old and broke.

There's a reason why I want Nioh! I've played Dark Souls 1 remastered (though I didn't liked it as much), then I went on to Dark souls 2 and then 3. I heavily enjoyed the Soulsborne Franchise, yes Even bloodborne, to which to this day I still play.

But I've seen Nioh gameplay and I must say I am really really interested in it, I've also heard talks how hard it is as well so that's one other thing I'm being drawn to. I want to play Nioh because it's a preparation of sorts into Nioh 2 which was just announced at E3 and Code Vien, another souls-like which I'm heavily into!

I feel bad for asking but the summer is long and I don't get paid until September. The standard edition is £11.99 while the Complete is £19.99 It's your choice which to gift me, and I will still be grateful!

Have you added any? If so would you share what you created and how it went? While I like Vallaki, and we'll be heading to Krezk at some point, Barovia is so meh (understandably). But the valley feels limited. 1 or two small villages would be nice. I know the Adventurers League has Oransu which they added, but a small village of about 30-40 souls(pun intended) would be interesting.

Thoughts? Experiences? Am I overthinking it?
