I'm currently reading through John Julius Norwich's Absolute Monarchies, and noticed that within the second chapter he denotes these two cults, that of Sol Invictus and Mithras, as being competitive with the rise of Christianity within the Roman Empire. So just how prevalent were these two 'cults', did various emperors acknowledge them as state religion or were they more underground?
Also, Norwich notes that the worship of the Olympian Gods was still around, but kept alive by official priesthood practicing ancient tradition rather than as a living faith. How true is this? Was the worship of the Olympians basically not practiced by the lay folk around this time, or was it more prevalent than Norwich makes out?

I know, I know, good old Sol was just the Roman's appropriation of the Egyptian sun god Ra, but nonetheless, season's greetings.
This year has been a trash fire. Between the virus, the (correct and necessary) BLM protests, our city's mayor not quite living up to our expectations, the joke that is the red house occupation, I just wanted to take a minute to observe that the vast majority of our good neighbors have kept their heads high and shown the kindness and community that makes this city great. It's been a rough road but we are still managing it. Adversity will not define us, but it has given us an opportunity to show our character.

So this will be my first Christmas/Sol Invictus as a Satanist, and I thought i'd share, (I don't normally share things like pictures etc. on social media, so bear with me), my egg ornaments for the tree. I don't like using plastic and I recycle as much as I can so instead of spending money of Christmas baubles this year I made my own baubles using hollowed egg shells that I did myself and died them with food colouring. The 'star' at the top is a stick pentagram that I assembled myself with sticks, duh haha, and string dyed with green dye so its a black and green star.
I'm still waiting for the eggs to dry before I can glue the string on them but I thought i'd send a picture of the eggs now.
The first picture is the side that is important to me and the second picture is the side of the eggs people will see when they visit, (dont really want to advertise that i'm a Satanist).
The symbols vary from the Leviathan cross, the sigil of Lucifer, the Pagan symbol representing Earth, the Pagan symbol of the triple moon, and the Pagan symbol of the moon, (please excuse some of the bad lines, eggs are difficult to draw on if you want to keep them intact haha).
I have chosen these symbols because these are the symbols of Satanism and the natural world that resonate the most with me. I thought it would be fitting since I feel I am a spiritual Satanist above all the other types, and I think these symbols are a perfect mix for my understanding of the religion of Satanism through the natural world, so its like going back to the 'roots' of Satanism from the concept of the witch and natural world gaining her powers from Satan. Ok enough rambling. I will post of my tree when the eggs are finished. Thanks for reading :)

I've done some googling and read the passage on the TST website and still don't understand Sol Invictus and how it relates to TST.
